  • Holly shit yes sir

  • Pensa Suhr Custom MKII

  • Can someone tell me what kind of guitar he's playing

  • He seems like Seinfeld, doesn't he?

  • It's almost impossible to hold a light between this and the Outlaws Green "Grass & High Tides" (GG&HT), both absolutely bloody amazing.

A word of warning though, if you've not yet heard GG&HT yet, make sure you listen to the studio version first otherwise you won't be able to cope with the 'live'!

  • I can't explain... (orgasmic).

  • This is a warm summer night, early morning hours, the sun is starting to barely light up the eastern horizon, the car windows are open, the girl in the passenger seat is happy and you're heading home.

  • ike his Guitarplaying with(I think) three Finger

    ~~manolo/J,Scipt

  • I wanted to see Clapton Bro-fist Mark...

  • 8:11 : legend knows how to dance too ;D

  • Live performance....amazing....streams like a river!

  • there is a much better version of that video on youtube

    watch it here

    /watch?v=6jxsnIRpy2E

  • who's better knopfler or clapton (knopfler side) even if i really like clapton

  • @pirlo2166

Im inclines to say Clapton but Knopfler is certainly just about equal, its a shame he is so underrated he is in my top 10

  • MK has never been afraid of inviting other stars to join him on stage.

  • Mark Knopfler is my favorite guitarist. I 'am glad saw him with Straits in Providence, Rhode Island in the 90s. What a fantastic musician he is.

  • 00:05 thaaank yooouu xD

  • what is the name of second part 7:15?! its not sultan of swings ??

  • @IvannSerbia

No it is, its the extended version.

  • @TheGus619 ty, i didnt know xD

  • @IvannSerbia

At 7:15 It is Sultans of Swing. MK likes to extend most of his live versions.

But at 3:49 it is a riff from the Twilight Zone theme, an American television program of the early 1960s. Mark likes to inject borrowed riffs into his live versions. Search for Calling Elvis. There are a few great versions there. Double drums, four guitars, terrific.

  • @PikPobedy thx, didnt know that :P calling elvis is great too :)

  • love every second

  • INCREIBLE, LA CALIDAD MUSICAL DE MARK ES INSUPERABLE, TAMBIÉN SU HUMANISMO. UN 10.

  • This is the best video I have ever seen: Eric Clapton is on the background!

  • best guitar solo

  • This song was the reason i started playing guitar. God i spent months trying to learn how to play it perfectly. And it was worth every damn second! How theres over 200 dislikes ill never no. They must be deaf and cant hear the song or something because this is musical perfection. Also having Clapton play along is a nice touch here. Rock aint ever gonna die

  • @NumbAsAStatue27 I can understand them since the sound is kinda crappy, though it doesn't ruin the most awesome music plays

  • 7:50 to 10:40 pure magic! On repeat

  • I wonder what they are talking about somewhere in the middle.

  • @JefClaesBE clapton is wondering when his solo is coming, but it never does!

  • @JefClaesBE Knopfler's trying to talk Clapton into a solo me thinks. But god didn't want to rain on Knopfler's parade... and why would he need to? Knopfler is phenomenal with his melodic licks and harmonies. An incredible performance, despite the average quality of the video - it still beats lots of live recordings I've seen.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • WTF!! THE BEST CLASSIC ROCK!!

  • Wow.. Clapton sucked!..

  • That improvisation by Mark is pure genius;just imagining how it would have sounded if he was playing it on a 1959 Les Paul Gibson !

  • I've always respected Knopfler (huge Clapton fan, that's what drew me here), but I should get more into Knopfler's stuff. It's pretty damn good.

  • God´s of Guitar

  • That's the great from Mark Knopfler with Eric Clapton!!

  • Just shutup and enjoy one of the best performances ever.

  • mark knopler is the son of god ....

  • Eric Was playing because the usual rhythm player was at the hospital with his wife who was giving birth to twins. Mark introduced a stand in........Eric Clapton.the audience went beserk!!

    Sorry my spelling is crap

  • @twotontex2 love this !

  • Eric Was playing because the usual rhythm player was at the hospital with his wife who was giving birth to twins. Mark introduced a stand it.Eric clapton.the audience went besrk!!

  • Make that a Pensa Suhr Custom MKII :)

  • Make that a Pensa Custom MKII.

  • This is a Pensacola Custom MKII.

  • what does knopfler play?

  • What is EC doing that us so great? Seems like he's just playing rhythm. He is a master of his trade, but I sure don't think this video highlights it. Mark on the other hand, oh yeah.

  • Eric My sweet baby :-)

  • eric should change the r in his name to a p =D

  • This might have been one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Wow.

  • the best evewry gitatrist every maRK ANDERIC ARE SURPERVICE

  • 240 upright organ and skin flute players didn't like this masterpiece.

  • the best guitarists,

greetings 63 years man from Finland

  • the most expressive guitarists of our time together!

  • How do i get this live in high quality? the sound of this video sucks :(

  • Just the best!!!!!!

  • one of the greatest compositions planet earth has ever seen. Cant say anything else.

  • Knopfler and Clapton. Folks, it just doesn't get any better than the talent these two have. Rock On!!

  • Man, I taught there was only one God on earth ... !

  • sou do Brasil.. amo esse som !! diretoo do Pará !!! :D musica linda !!

  • the video demographics show it's mostly popular in south korea..?

...i guess this is why they will take over the world lol

  • The solo is absolutely amazing, knopfler is in my opinion one of the most important guitar players from this century and the 20 century

  • @707Guido A Rare Treat not one,but two absolutely superb guitarist,s at the top of their Game, knopfler is in My Top Five Guitarists.

And isnt it wonderful to see no Collosall Ego attempting to take the loins share.

Ala Sting,Elton john, and many other performers still out there.

  • ENCONTRO DE TITÃS.

    HISTORICO!!!

  • Exceptionnel ! J'aime ....

  • What does Justin Beiber have to do with this song? Very good music and playing. Inspirational.

  • The You Tube title had me thinking Mark & Eric would do some interesting guitar interplay. Nope ... Eric plays rhythm and that's it. Knopfler certainly shreds though ... too bad the camera operator didn't seem to notice.

  • i'm so glad EC chose not to get in the way on this, it would be like butting in on jimi hendrix in the middle of voodoo chile.

mark knopfler rocked and clapton sat back and enjoyed it with the rest of us (good for him) 2 thumbs up.

  • damn Sienfeld looks old in this video, never knew he played guitar or sang!

  • I love from 6:40 the way Mark and Eric are just chatting away :D can anyone lip read?

  • The audio is a little distorted, but in this case that's actually quite cool: it sounds like the original Dire Straits demo!

  • 236 people like justin bieber

  • amazing

  • these guys sultans of guitar.

  • Mark Knopfler's guitar playing makes me cry...it's beautiful :')

  • 7:40 I go to the paradise ! <3 AWAZING Like That !

  • Here's my suggestion, when you're browsing the internet, open this video in a new tab and keep playing it, even if you have to have it on mute. Let's get this to the 200 million views it deserves.

  • @Delroy444

    won't do anything.

if a person opens it once, it will give + 1 view.

no matter how many times you open it

  • @Delroy444 not a day goes by I don't listen to it and ah hem attempt to play it on my guitar. Sadly my left hand is ravaged from 4 strokes and it is hard. Won't stop trying though. Not much you can do with an old yamaha guitar found in a pawn shop for 100 bucks and an amp that rattles all the time but I do try.

  • @cinnabarrazz guitar george dont wanna make it cry or sing. i just play open chords with a couple of embellishments for this song on my beat up acoustic and enjoy myself the best i can. its all in the rhythm this song. i love it.

    keep enjoying it.

  • @Delroy444 absolutely. Let me tell you something at least once a day i listen Telegraph road, so in my personal "number of views" i think it has more than 20000 XD

  • @Delroy444 no... don't mute, i am pretty sure that if your neighbours call the police for any reason, they'll arrest them instead of you, just because they're hating on this song..

  • @Delroy444 only 200 millions? justin beaber has 600 :( today's people don't know nothing about real music

  • @Delroy444 Done deal.

that is a close to other worldly as you're going to get.. especially the ending.

  • @Delroy444

why would you have to mute it? what is more exicitng than this song?

  • what is the name of the instrumental that starts at 6:44

  • Ultimate guitar player..have chance to live with him at the same years..

  • It´s a thing about respect between artists, NOT that one is better than the other. If you are playing as a guest, you let the owner the song do HIS best part, if then you play your own song you can play the best play of it. You should never disrespect or mess to play the best part of a song if you are a guest, not IF the owner of the song ask you to do it so. Also is a thing about respect to the public, they want to hear the best from the one who create it. Again not if the owner of the song...

  • @bigraphs Mark is a picker. And his leads run all around the tonic in harmonics. Not just some frenetic scale runs.

    A true artist.

  • @Mark6024 You are so right !

  • @bigraphs Actually I agree in some parts. But like in this video, the audience would want to hear as well a guitar battle form Mark and Eric within this music. But I totally agree with you, even if you are a kick ass guitarrist you have to realize that... you're not the star of the show ^^'

  • There's a reason Clapton sits in the back seat. In my eyes, Knopfler is a far superior musician, songwriter, and, yes, guitarist, and I have listened to them both for years, and seen them both in concert several times. Not to knock on Clapton's talent, he's just no Mark Knopfler.

  • @hellswinter

So you think Mark chose Eric to play on stage with him because Eric is so inferior..is that what you're saying?

If so you're talking utter bullshit.

Eric stayed in the background out of respect to Mark, no other reason.

  • @QueenReigns1

Take a moment to think about what you read and correctly interpret speech. What I mean is that Clapton respectfully stays in the background because he is incapable of playing with the same level of expertise. He respectfully declines the solo Mark offers him, because he humbly recognizes that he would not perform as well as Mark. And, like I said, I'm not knocking on Clapton, he's an amazing talent himself.

  • How do i get this song in good quality?

  • mark's in the zone at 8:00

  • please bring this back! I'm sick of today's music.. I'm sick of listening to the same cliched music time after time on the radio nowadays.

  • @vampayerLestat gotta keep it underground man. they don't derserve it.

  • bolesno bolesno bolesno dobra stvar

  • Any suggestions where I can get hold of a copy of the Nelson Mandela's 70th Birthday Wembley Concert from 1988 either CD or DVD? Any help appreciated. I am particularly interested in the Dire Straits set. Thanks.

  • I am completely blown away. One never knows what gems one will uncover on the tube.

  • Eso es música!!! :D mas bien una obra de arte :)

  • I'd move to the country that picks it as its national anthem without hesitation

  • Clapton playing "second fiddle" to Knopfler, QUITE RIGHT TOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • De 8:34 hasta final lo más asombro que vi :D

Igual contando 9:26 que la verdad ahi mi asombro colmo xD

  • If Clapton is God and plays rhythm for Mark... Who is Mark Knopfler ? lol

  • absolument superbe!!!!!!thank you

  • You know you're an amazing guitarist when Eric Clapton is playing rhythm for you.

  • Since 13....... JUST LOVE IT.......A CLASSIC I can see Mozart jamming on this one!!!

  • AWESOME GUITAR SOLO I JUST WANTED TO HEAR MORE OF ERIC CLAPTON

  • mikko522 is right. you can think obut Rory Gallagher, SRVaughan, Paco de Lucia, but each one of them is the best in their own path, composing and/or developing. To me, it is EC, but for his music...

  • What a shame - the recorded/reproduced sound on this clip is very poor.

  • @mixwizard2310 the brothers in arms version from this concert was hands down the greatest performance i would say from Knopfler period. his guitar was like earth shattering in it. the recording is muffled a bit. i wish they recorded this better. the entire concert was one of his best.

  • Had no idea this happened. Like the 9/11 of musical meltdowns and I missed it . Thank you, Lord, for YouTube.

  • MK puts so much emotion into his live renditions.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • So bad quality.

  • @QueenReigns1 don't forget Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix ;)

  • @Robi2009

FFS...I was talking about the 2 guitarists on this video, nobody else.

  • Is it just me or does Eric Clapton look ridiculously like the guy who got shot in Die Hard?

  • NEVER ON MP3...

  • Have a few glasses or cans of your favorite alcohol (or other), have speakers at maxinium volume then hit 5.00 minutes & go from there. Repeat process aleast once a week for remainder of lifetime & you will die a happy man/women. Long live MK Beethoven.

  • This is out of the universe, it almost can't be real! How many of this is improvised you think?

  • low quality sound reproduction...great guitars from Clapton and Knopfler!! Rock On!!!

  • Someone with some good musical knowledge could tell me which scales Mark uses while soloing? Thanks, I'm a newbie yet =(

  • @ 7,15 clapton says let me play the solo, knopler shakes head no way. haha im pretty sure of this haha

  • @dean24uk

I think you're right. What a cool moment.

  • @dean24uk yep i couldnt agee more

  • what an awesome quality

  • I see alot of comments about Mark's expressions looking like he's bored. I've never really seen him cut up ever. He's not a showman, he's a musician - huge difference. I think that's just how he looks when he plays. He really is an awesome guitarist. Look up his stuff when he played with Chet Atkins - incredible. Great video

  • @Frostylyxxx I actually really love the how he looks so 'bored'. makes him really professional

  • @Frostylyxxx Mark Knopfler plays his shit just to play - the circumstances under which a musician should play.

  • zwei Super-Musiker - einfach toll!

  • from what year is this video?

  • Well he had Clapton on rhythm, should of taken it further and had Jimmy Page on the tambourine and BB King playing the triangle.

  • Amazing!!!

  • It figures that these 2 master guitarists would eventually find their way to each other. Genius!

  • Mart Knofler & eric Clapton? What more can you ask for. pure genius

  • legend

  • Mark is playing his own Pensa Shur guitar on this clip. Its a testament to Mark's ability that you can see Eric is just happy to be there.

  • Superbe, ce duo de géants... dommage que le son soit "écrasé" !

  • This is a very cool vid - Clapton and Knopfler, Straticaster and Les Paul. Just great.

  • It's the best version of this song,

    the best...

  • Mmmm....sorry, but it really looks like on this vid Knopfler is just going through the motions. Looks like he's done this one 32 out of the last 45 nights and just two more weeks and the tour will be over. This version gets a thumbs down from me. Clapton looks like a stage prop here. Let's flip over to the Sultans of Swing from Live Aid.

  • @ginoboy9 totally agree, i love knopfler but i saw him years ago at Sheffield arena - im in the crowd for the Heavy Fuel video they shot there - but that was the most exciting part unfortunatley, he looked piss-bored and fluffed the intro to Money for nothing, very dissapointing but then i suppose he's never pretended to be a showman and it didn't put me off...

  • No.1 guitarist for me. He's effortless in his guitar.

  • If you like Mark Knopfler, you must watch Telegraph Road live in Basel (full version)

The whole song is great, but the guitar solo at the end is out of this world.

  • @Delroy444 Thank you for this info =)

  • Reppin' the "Fading Glory Mullet" in fine style

  • Is that Curtis Stigers on saxophone !?

  • @RocknSoulBass No it's Chris White

  • i would give my left nut to be there when this show was going on..... On second thought i would give both.
