@Sodiumreactor The USAF A10 is officially named the Thunderbolt 2. It is more commonly know by the name that joes gave the plane "The Warthog" or "Hog". The official name Thunderbolt was first used for the P47 of the WW2 era. As a ground ponder the Hog is an angle on my shoulder. If I'm ever in the same bar as a Hog driver the drinks will be on me.

Actually the A-10 has a very low heat signature due to the placement of the engines. The exhaust passes over the horizontal stabilizer, and between the twin vertical stabilizers, minimizing it's heat sig. All in all, it has a fair chance of avoiding just about any form of heat seeking missile. On another note, the technology contained within this airframe is still up to date. The design is old, yes, however the A-10 received a modernization update in 07, and is still in the process

of updating the rest. During my time in the USAF, I had the joy of working on an A-10 C, and I must say, that this plane is almost impossible to shoot out of the air. No detail was missed when designing it. It has back up systems for when its back up systems fail. Three flight modes are available if one is disabled. The engines are deploy-able if one fails, and it is capable of flying with almost half a wing missing. Show me an F- 35 capable of this.

in the early 80's i grew up in a area in england where these would fly in pairs and spend some time dog fighting before moving on, as a 8 y/o watching that blew me away.

the meanest,sexiest bad ass plane ever built in my opinion.

its amazing to see them now, 30 odd years on absolutely owned the sky (and the ground) in afganistan and truly fulfilling the roll they were built to do.

It's a military weapon, they aren't going to be sold to the public. Though you can buy an M134 that fires 7.62mm for about $400,000 USD or so, from what I've heard. Probably the closest you'd get >:)

Great video, CA! The "Warthog" a flying Tank that strikes total terror into the hearts of any ground based Armour! A top speed of 420 MPH at extremely low altitudes is incredibly fast, and the Gatling gun is one distinct sounding weapon. Again, just the sound of that gun strikes total fear into the enemy. This air craft can be riddled with holes and still keep going. What a beast!
