TO QUELL THE RUMORS: This song was recorded in 1989, "I'm in a hurry" was recorded in 1991; 2 years later, not 10. Murrah and VanWarmer(composers of "I'm in a hurry") have repeatedly acknowledged their nod to(rip-off of) Guadalcanal Diary. Songs are inspired by other songs all the time. What's the prob?
i LOVE guadalcanal diary and this song and i HATE country music and alabama, but after watching their video can say they did not rip them off......they still suck though
Well, I'm still convinced. The lick is way too odd, and unlike anything else Alabama. The topic of the lyrics are the same too, just from another perspective. And no need to curse floosieboy55.
Seriously ggoss42, do you really believe that the guys in Alabama were at all familiar with an obscure underground rock band from Athens, Georgia that was (and still is ) practically unknown by anyone outside of a niche cadre of indie music nerds? Were they such fans that they decided to rip off a song from an album that would have been out-of-print by the time they recorded "I'm In a Hurry"? If so, my respect for Alabama just grew a ton. In any case, it's a an awesome tune.
@gigantecrunch And if you were a big name act who was pumping a dry well, where would you go for "inspiration"? Another big name act who has many readily identifiable songs, or some obscure indie rock band from Athens that practically no one has heard of outside of a few indie rock nerds? Dude, it happens all the time, do your research. Plenty of bigger bands have ripped off smaller acts, and in a few cases blatantly said it and didn't care.
alabama didnt rip them off just becuase they have the same rhythm as this song they could have had permission from these guys anything and i wouldnt even care if they did because alabama is better sometime a song has potential but not with the person its with and alabama took a shitty song like the one playing right now and made it one of the greatest song of all time.. i would thank them not insult them..
@shanecail That is strictly a matter of opinion and taste. You as a person cannot declare a sound as good or bad, as it is subjective at best. Alabama are technically proficient musicians, but I don't find their brand of "country soft rock" all that appealing, and I've listened to country music since the 70's.
nice song

Flip-Flop is great all the way through. This song's killer and it still isn't one of the better tracks.

Oh, BTW, Guadalcanal Duary was actually from Marietta, not Athens.

this is one of my favorites songs; lucky to have "Flip Flop" on CD; have no idea what the alabama rip-off talk is about, but don't really care;

@biscuitonia your right but the reason i said that is because some asshole (floodboy) was saying the same thing about alabama.

lol no this sounds way worse nice try. there are only so many chords in music. some things are bound to sound similar
dcarley 1 year ago
@dcarley actually this sounds better...this band were pioneers....Alabama is anything but pioneers.
meccaturbo 1 year ago
ew it is not the same song, its not good at all. The same rythym sort of but not really the same song at all. Good try though

Man, Alabama really ripped off these guys. It's the SAME song, but Guadalcanal did it 10 years earlier.
