We certainly have souls but to me it's the same thing as our minds, our brain generates our mind and the universe itself through the process of evolution created our brain. It seems kind of strange and unlikely that the universe just so happens to be set up in a way which allows all this to happen by pure blind random chance. Even if it is possible it would be strange if that is in fact what happened.
If the eternal destiny of your soul depended on it, why not believe? If eternality is true, this life is but a blip on the scale of eternity, and you gave it up, due to the empty feelings of your soul, that emptiness will soon arise in your heart and it will come with a vengeance because that hole cannot be filled except by the spirit of God, this is my philosophy on certain unknowns based in biblical light. The soul of humanity longs for the pure love of God THAT CAN BE FOUND.
Hey - get some non religious friends and if you are Christian do not try to convert them - you will learn that they are wonderful people, they can be morally upright, they can have values and find meaning in life - without God or Jesus or Science - We do not need to anxiously worry about "eternal destiny", do you notice how people have certain behaviours when they are nervous - like biting their nails or twisting hair - Religion is like that, its a reaction to our pain.
at least now i know that i am not the only crazy guy in this world.
lol
thanks
I loved the nature-god part, because i actually thought that i was the one who came up with the idea then i read through pantheism and ...... agnosticism.
Your story is quite similar to mine, i come from a christian family, was baptised, went to church, sunday school etc but never really believed in it. I was basically agnostic till my late teens then eventually through educated thinking came to the conclusion that believing in things (or having faith in something) literally just for the sake of believing in it, is actually wrong... lol
"Educating yourself by observation of non biased material gives the most potentially valid conclusions".
You look like my ex boyfriend. He had very long fingers and hands like you. He was half Chinese, but you couldn't tell unless you got really close lol.
I think what you went through sounds a lot like what I am going through now. It's like I know the truth, but I'm trying to find a halfway point between believing in something and believing in nothing. BTW, really hard to do lol.
"Supernatural" and "Pantheistic God/divine" I think is mostly defined by an emotive relation to the universe. It really can't be false, cause this emotionless state is also kind of emotive too. All subjects have an emotive perspective everytime... There really isn't an objective perspective I think.
Wow, your story is uncanily similar to mine. Although I'm still at the point where I belive in souls, and that "God" (I don't really like calling it that) is the conciousness of the universe. I'm an Atheist of sorts as I don't believe in the common concept of a god or gods.
You said that after you became a pantheist, you still believed in human 'souls', and that 'god' talked to you. From my understanding, those believes go against what pantheism is all about. According to pantheist: GOD = Sum of everything in the universe. So why did you initially think god was talking to you? Pantheists also do not believe in an immortal soul, so, that doesnt add up to your linear story.
I think when people want to know how you became an atheist, the interest lies mainly in the arguments that you accepted to reach that position, rather than the dramatic re-enactment of the moment you stood bravely in the face of your girlfriend and declared your new worldview. So, then, what was said in that forum that made you decide that atheism was the way to go?
Lol, no no no. I just can't remember the specifics on the debate that "brought me over" so to speak. It was a debate about the argument of souls. Basically it amounted to: "why believe?"
Nice man. Its good to be a free thinker and not be held down by the intimidation and fear that the church forces upon its members. And by the way "sonarkhemist" you don't need to be a philosophy major to realize whats real and whats not. Open your mind and close the door to the room your parents and society threw you in.
I'm sorry what? I read up on mysticism when I can, I'm not some clueless academic, infact I've learned more living in the real world then I ever would from a book and thats the same with most people. You have me unfortunately wrong, and you are patronising
i'm sorry, this doesn't cut it. Read up on philosophy, science, logic, metaphysics and the history of the world. Think for yourself, a myspace debate is hardly reliable. I could say the same thing about belief systems clicking, atheism is a belief system. You have much to learn grasshopper, 2 years solid reading EVERYTHING other then those who think similarly to you will change your reasoning
You might think my comment was offensive, it does sound sort of that way. Just because they're alot of idiot religious believers doesn't mean all people who believe in God are. Read up Nietzsche you will like him ;)
why are you insulting me? I was making a recommendation, I just didn't hear you mention Nietzsche in the video thats all. I wish you wasn't so aggressive to people who are taking the time to listen to your views, I'm not trying to be patronising, I said you would like him. A simple 'No need I'm already familar with Nietzsche' comment would do. Does it kill you to be civil?
Interesting that you thought you moved into pantheism, however, modern/western pantheism is basically atheism with a strong appreciation for the universe and love for nature. From pantheistic philosophy you can understand that we are all part of one system: the universe. Look up "world pantheist movement"...no soles or supernatural beings there.
You can assert that I simply "thought" I moved into pantheism, but since you have no idea of the details of my beliefs, you can't rightly and justifiably make that assertion, can you?
People sometimes say that all this debate and discussion doesn't do any good. But your proof that it does. I cannot predict the future but my wild assed guess is that the internet is going to change how the world thinks.
I am both an ignostic and an atheist. They aren't mutually exclusive.
My ignosticism is much more recent than my atheism. I didn't have time in my video to describe all the different variations of atheism I've been through. My apologies.
My journey was similar, but ended up differently. I went from Christianity to atheism, and then to pantheism.
