Was their recreated model based in Greg Jein model (builted for Trial abd Tribles ctions) or a own recreated estimation? The original grid patern in source section was quite a mistery. Some people sais it was a texture, and other says it was drawned by pencil in the original TOS series. Greg Jein made as a texture.
they used measurments from the original model designed by Matt Jeffries, which is currently at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. If you check out their web site they have quite a bit of interesting information.
Smithsonian had the original model, but it's not exactly original anymore. The model back the time Smithsonian get was poor condition and missed some pieces. Smithsonian made two restorations at least, and in the last they added a coarse and exagerated gride pattern, much more ticker than this model or Greg Jein"s model. Anyway this models looks fantastic realistic and precise. I guess it was pretty expansive.
I also think that the present paint texture ( at the original Model in Smithsonian) is exagerated, compared to what we can see in the original series. Greg Jein did a terrific job in "Tribble´s Actions".
Sure! Do you think Paramount would miss the chance to get more money with a new Starship design, to futher new modelKit that Star Trek fans will certainly buy?
I looked up the Model on the custom replica web site. The company has othe ships of the classic Sci-Fi from the 60's. At $8000.00 I am going to have to wait a while for this one.
Wow! What detail! I most definitely would get West Coast Customs to place some old style nacelles on my silver Grand Am Pontiac 91. Also I want blinking beacon lights and a satelite dish mounted on the front grill. To finish it off; I'd like the engine to be made to sound like it's going to warp old style. Priceless and corny!! Hahahaha!
Wow...that's incredible! A spot-on TOS match!

I'm afraid of this nice original classic design get modification for the coming Star Trek XI, which will have Kirk, Spock and Macoy with new actors.
