I am an old boy of DYRMS. 1945-1951. Haig 7 & Wy 43. I've lived in Southern Africa for 50 years now but i always remember that school on 'lonetree hill. In those days during the 1940s, our uniform was khaki of the old fashion first world war dress including side cap. This changed to the WW2 type battle dress & khaki beret whilst i was there. Our band and drums were recognised as the best in Southern England & we were so proud & smart. As indeed the boys & now thankfully girls as well, are now.
