hey jeremy, question for you, i have a problem stickhandling, i keep losing the puck! i have been playing for a while but i cant seem to get better. i have a smart ball and a shooting pad but once i get on ice, i lose the puck. also its difficult moving it on turns. thank you
i used a rolled up piece of hockey tape as a ball prick to handle but after 5 min working it like a pro then switched to the biscuit and it was like a walk in the park.
I'm heavy right hand dominant and shoot righty. I understand having the dominant hand at the top of the stick, but I CAN'T shoot lefty whatsoever. I noticed in this video you're a righty as well. Are you right hand or left hand dominant? And either way what were your reasons for choosing which way to hold your stick? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I spend WAY too much time googling "__________ signing autographs" trying to figure out which players are right/left handed. It's stressful.
Woah, ok this is weird, is 14 an age where like all kids who like hockey realize it or something, on a few of your videos theres people asking questions about starting hockey and stuff and most are around 14...even me...
@ESPMETALLICAFAN17 It could be because you are using your bottom hand and you are doing more of a swatting motion instead of the top hand and sliding the puck
I'm 13, i took skating lessons a couple times but i have trouble with crossovers and backwards skating. I'm working on it. After that i'm gonna learn how to stick handle, but i feel like even when i get good at hockey its gonna be kinda hard to find something like a team to play for besides my school, I REALLY love hockey., can you give me a fiew ideas on where i could find teams to play for??
Is it hard to start icehockey and join in to a team if Im already 18? Are the players in that age already so skilled that its hard for a new player. Or is there some worse "leagues" or something?
I love using the golf ball for stickhandling I didn't know you have soft hands to do that thats so sick I am a dangler but i'm not a superstarov. These videos are must watch videos they will teach you a lot.
im glad finally somebodys know how to stick handle, bottom hand is all power, top is all control. people should also know why there so many rightys here in north america compared to europe players. if your right hand dominate, you should be a lefty, if you left hand dominate you should be a righty
im 15 and my parents wont let me play i love the sport i can skate nd stick handle and shit but i dont know where the positions should be when they need to be in certain moments other wise i think im good any advice please
Nice video! Although I may be wrong but i do not believe that you ever mentioned that you should ALWAYS keep your head up and looking where you are going, especially when your practicing, you play like you practice and if your always looking at the puck you'll be on your ass
@netWorkGreEn Yeah you are right about that, for those who are just learning it is ok to take a peak while learning the move, but when you are trying to perfect the move do it with your head up, so you aren't skating around the ice with your head down, that's just dangerous!
@netWorkGreEn Hey guys! Jermy I am a hockey player i play on travel hockey i would really like a video like power turning! because on my team they have a drill where you have to skate around very close cones but i don't know how to do a powerturn! and crossovers are to slow! i loved the video though it taught me a lot please get back to me thanks!
@meatmaster55 I do not make videos, I would suggest taking a power skating lesson i will try and give you some tips,
to maintain speed lean forward on your toes with your inside foot placed in front of your body and turn on your toes to turn sharper turn more on your heels try and keep the center of your chest in between your skates to maintain balance at all times , my best advice is to learn from a pro and practice as much as you can, on crossovers the most power comes from your inside leg
@netWorkGreEn yeah bro forreal i play highschool hockey for the florida state champion team and we have to have our head up 95 percent of the time or we get wrecked every time
im just starting to play and im a righty. I saw the comment you made that the dominant should be on top. It seems (for me atleast) that i would get better control with my dominant on the bottom and get harder shots. any input on that
thanks for taking the time to do these videos, even though everyone has slightly different ways to play seeing you go through movements is very helpful
Hey i am a new hockey training account like howtohockeydotcom. I'm really glad I watched your video, because I realize that I'm stick handling with the lower hand....!!!! But one question, when you're stick handling do you necessary have to lift the stick up? Or just roll your wrist and let it hover over the puck? Because I practice with a tennis ball and I wonder if that'll affect the drill... And if you DO have to lift the stick up a little bit, then are we doing that with the lower hand or the top hand??? (I'm right handed, by the way)
Wow you know alot of stuff. I just started watching your videos today and I learned so much stuff already. I've never been in a team before or had anyone teach me anything. Great vids keep it up.
@howtohockeydotcom heey its me again :) umm im an average stickhandler like you know im 13 but im having a little problem with my toe drag icant do it that well could you put a toe drag on deke of the week or something?

I have a question, I'm right handed and ever since I was 8 I've been a right shot, so my left hand is on top, is this wrong? I looked this video up because I've always been a pretty crappy stickhandler. Also, I live in Texas so it's entirely possible I was taught the wrong way.
Hey quick question... I am a righty, and when i stick handle i "control" the puck with my bottom hand, however i still use my top hand as well... its just that when i handle the puck around me, i mainly use my bottom hand to navigate the puck, but my top hand is not motionless. I'm a sophomore right now and i'm starting hockey my dominant hand is my right hand but a lot of stickhandling requires left hand should i consider switching to left hand so that i'd be using my right hand to stickhandle?
@howtohockeydotcom it's not to late to start if you try hard i'm 14 and i've been playing for about 6-7 years and i've seen people our age just start and don't want to play anymore because they get hit to much during the season, if you can keep your head up and can shake off a hit then go for it!
@howtohockeydotcom Hey Jeremy could you do a video regarding the proper stick length for forwards and defencemen? It would be much appreciated. Also, You mentioned it's better to have your dominant hand on top, does this mean your left hand is you dominant one? My right hand is my dominant hand but I soot right, so my left hand is on top, so I'm a little confused about that. Thanks!
Thank you soooo much! i'm 15 and just starting out hockey. i always use my bottom hand to control the stick. I watched this and used a toilet roll and put it on my stik and now i get it.! i can stickhandle much better now!
@Auzinator13 I've got a link in the video description below the link to my website. Also if you visit How To Hockey there is a $10 off coupon you can use on training aids.
@aerosmithacdcbonjovi the roll wouldn't work as good, but it would work. Basically all you really need is something that fit's around the stick. I think Paul Kariya would use water bottles.
@howtohockeydotcom Thanks for the help im 13 and just starting ice hockey for the first time and your videos have helped alot. Any other tips for me.(ive payed a bit of road hockey and a can skate a bit.
Great demo. on top and bottom hand usage etc. I find that most players do not know the difference of how each hand works , I use a cheap six inch paint roller for bottom hand and trim the fuzz off , a toilet paper center piece will let you know whether you are handling the stick gingerly or not with the bottom hand. what is the name of the lower hand att? @HockeyWarrior14 Yeah that's a given. I wouldn't say always, even though people say to always have your head up, even the best players take a peak the odd time
@xitzgrimx Yeah it is brand new, I broke all my other ones doing the slapshot challenge so I just bought that one recently. In the summer there is no where for me to play :( In the winter I play in a few leagues.
@nelsoncards They are Bauer something or another, I just bought them at the end of the season I think there might be a V in there somewhere with the XX's

Hey guy,
Practice consistently and constructively as it sounds like you are doing, get numerous sessions of repetition on the ice at stick and pucks etc.
Work on it, trust and let your natural abilities take over. Never worry, learn to play in the immediate moment at hand, in the present. Good luck.

You should also always have your head up when your stick handling.
