  • and the bass player is ..... bernard edwards

  • I she related to Mj cause kind of looks like him and almost sounds like him :o

  • i cant believe there is a debate about what this song means. its meant to be liberating.

im gonna quit my job and im so happy, others have come out as gay and feel better for it, others are just starting to become more confident in their lifes. wat should it matter what you think it means.

the great thing about music, is that it will always mean something to someone for completely different reason

  • (not gay) if anyone sees the westburro baptist church protests be sure to crank this song! :]

  • NICELY PUT JAGA! :-) VERY TRUE!

  • does she look like mike jackson or does he look like her?

  • @elvispresley718 We used to ask this question all the time when we were little... #80sKids

  • @elvispresley718 he was a big fan of her apparently

  • @khhnator i think diana ross is a better singer than jackson was and i dont give a shit about dancing neither didmozart

  • this pic of Diana was taken by Francesco Scavullo, and she's wearing Gia Carangi's jeans :D!

  • @gudhgieurgae that picture was taken by #djbubs and she's wearing #Kool Ed jeans

    Ha haa!

  • really? cool! :P

    ha haa

  • Its about a woman coming out in herself and her confidence its not just about gay rights.. sorry.

  • Kick Ass drums and horns!

  • 2012 anthem. Thumbs up.

  • I don't think this song has nothing todo with the F@#@ken gays , excuse my french this is Miss Ross at her best

  • @wreepeet and I don't think you can allow yourself to talk like this. Indeed, this song isn't about that kind of coming out and has nothing to do with the gay population, but you really shouldn't say it like this.

  • @ZoeyVio thats true!

  • @ZoeyVio it is a perfect gay anthem,

  • @wreepeet you need to read what nile rogers has said about his inspiration for this song and how diana went to him and when he asked her how she felt she said "i feel like i'm coming out!" she was referring to her breakaway from motown at the time. It does have a gay connection...the phrase is icinic gay for godsake. but the song is well written and can be used by all to represent confidence and self assuredness.

  • peep my version i love dis one tho its been a fav since mo money mo problems...im a 80s baby forgive me...its on my page

  • This is my raging song, sitting at home playing BF3, totally destroying everyone on the server and playing this song, yeah.. awesome.

Oh and it aint gay, its just an awesome 80's song

  • Great Album. Thanks for sharing, my turntable is lacking the needle. "-)

  • just watched tavis smiley with nile rodgers (who co-wrote the song) who said he got the idea for it at a transvestite bar when he realized that diana should acknowledge the icon that she is to the gay community. so yes, "coming out" was a gay term, but so new that that wasn't its exclusive meaning.

"coming out" (again according to rodgers) also referred to diana leaving motown for rca and the next stage of her career. the song means whatever you want it to.

  • This is the official national anthem for every sodomite and carpet muncher in America....maybe even the world.

  • co to za gowno zesrane z mandarynek i kaszowego kalu?

  • i'm not gay but i love this song

  • i'm gay.

  • I do NOT believe this was a "gay" song! The phrase "coming out" was NOT used by homo-sexuals at the time of the release of this great record! The coming out that is sung about here is in line with the 'coming out' into society of young women. This phrase was rudely appropriated by hedonistic deviants later, as though their conceited perversity was some kind of "achievement". It's not. This track is a Chic masterpiece!

  • @SKOTP69 I'd come up with something witty, but I'll just call you a bigot instead.

  • @KnightRaymund Well, that's a common enough tactic by liberals when their perversities are taken to task, so you're sadly not unique there. However, in line with the (legendary) origins of the word "bigot"...indeed, By God, I won't take such shit! Those going homo-sexual though, are actually the worst bigots of all, and with no good reason!

  • @SKOTP69 Homosexual is a word, homo-sexual isn't. If you're going to spot crazy zealot nonsense, you could at least have the decency to be grammatically correct.

  • @ElectricWaddle No. I Intentionally write homo-sexual as opposed to "homosexual", because I reject this notion that there is such an immutable identity with a "correct" word or name to go with it. I also intend to convey how jarring, dislocated, and unnatural such behaviour is!

  • @SKOTP69 Oh okay.

  • Come on let's all dance!

  • Happy Coming Out Day!!

  • @clj29360

straight males like the biggie one, your a fag

  • it was called "i'm coming up" when it was on 45 record back in 1981 so why did they change the title of the song other than it was too gay-oriented in 1981 and jacko wrote this song?

  • JCPenney

  • Dedicated to Matthew 'homo' Hill

  • DONT READ THIS BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY WORKS. YOU WILL GET KISSED ON THE NEAREST FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE. TOMORROW WILL BE BE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. IF YOU DO NOT POST THIS COMMENT ON THREE VIDEOS YOU WILL DIE WITHIN TWO DAYS. NO,YOUVE ALREADY STARTED READING THIS SO DONT STOP. THIS IS SCARY. PUT THIS ON FIVE VIDEOS IN THE NEXT 143 MIN. WHEN YOUR DONE PRESS F6 AND YOUR LOVERS NAME APPEAR ON YOUR SCREEN IN BIG LETTERS. THIS IS SCARY

  • Its about her going to by a dress and she knew she was going out that night. That's what inspired he to write that song. Nothing to do with being gay but I see where people get that idea lol

  • Im coming out that im straight and totally love women

  • @jerry8475 lol!

  • Musica GAY

  • @juninsbc pero bien que tu gusta ahhhh ahora saben que relacionas con esta musica

  • Me and My Buddy play call of duty black ops and on the map moon for zombies we run around in circles on earth playing this song lol

  • @DeHaanSolo lol

  • Folks, this song has nothing to do with "coming out of the closet". It was made during the wild and free for all Disco days when folks talked about "coming out" as a phrase that were going to be free and wild.

  • perfect gay song!

  • @cycloneous Mmm, Do i have to rage at you?

  • Janet jackson....

  • This song has been taken to mean many things over the years, but what it means to me is that the protagonist in the song is rallying themselves to be a better person, and they're showing the world.

This song is NOT just restricted to the "mordern meaning" of expressing or making known one's sexual preferences, any one says it is just that is clueless about music.

  • @cycloneous AGREED!!

  • @cycloneous well then why say this song has taken on alot of different meanings? songs can mean alot of different things to people...

  • @EvilJirachi Look at the culture and society when the song was first introduced and what it meant to people than versus now.

Now you have more people saying it is about sexuality, alternative sexual preferences, etc. I'm quite sure, the latter points were not the main highlights of the song back than.

  • IM COMING OUT AT 14 :O OMG THE WORLDS GONNA END... Stupid W.B.C

  • does this have anything to do with gayness? i mean homosexuality

  • @kingcamilo no watch everybody hates chris where it means hes doing something out of the ordinary

  • Count me in... straight as an arrow and friggin lovin' it......

  • This song simply means about coming out and being your best!!!!! I am just saying, some have taken the song to mean other things but it's simply meaning a song of maturity.

  • @Msfunnbunn this song means a lot of different things to different people. it is a song of affirmation, including great meaning for gay people coming out. it is not restricted to gay people coming out but it was written in that way. diana is quoted as telling nile and bernard that she felt like she was coming out. read what nile has said about the origins of this song.

  • I love this song....Diana, in one her rare simply beautiful looks...what I mean is no big hair, tones of make up, glam dress, she simply look pretty here without all the add ons....luv it.

  • ans&david vroom 107 walter Hays drive Palo Alto Californa 94303

  • Diana is very atractive im sure the mesage was if the helmet fits wear it god bless you humans ...............

  • i love u diana ross!!!!!!!

  • Thumbs up if you were born in the wrong generation...

  • this song is my friends sex song

  • Dominico Montardo on trombone... sublime!!!

  • LUV IT

  • Diana looks ridiculous in this picture, but few people probably know the side story behind that album cover. She is really making fun of a magazine ad for JCPenney leotards that ran in 1979!

  • @clarkbell after that statement why would anyone listen to you!! Diana looks ridiculous here? are you kidding me? Diana never looked sexier and more womanly than she did on this album cover. I remember when this LP dropped that cover got MAD ATTENTION!

  • ...and I WANT YOUR LOVE! LOL does anyone remember Chic too?

  • BIGGIE SMALLS !!!

BEVERLY HILLS IS THE PARTY CAPITOL OF THE WORLD BECAUSE OF ME NICOLE KENNEDY FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @NicoleKennedy01 That's way too trivial to even be funny...

  • Ultimate coming out party song!

  • I'M SINGING LOUD :D

  • If you carefully listen to the lyrics its not about "coming out" and being gay. She is talking about her personal life and the difficulties she endured. Very selfish to think otherwise.

  • AIDS really sucked. I'm hetero and I was only about 12 at disco's peak, but disco died and then Reagan showed up and AIDS ruined the whole scene and brought the IZOD frat boys to the forefront, and the US is still trying to recover from dicks like Paul Ryan assclown. The 70s were so multicultural and positive, I remember them very well.

Also, i like modern electronic, but modern dance/pop/rb cannot hold a candle to this shit. Then again, this trumpet solo pretty much blows. Awesome gtr drums.

  • @TheRealCritique I blew you in a Disco back in 1979/.

  • I don't care what the story is about the song...it is a really gay song and I love it that way. Diana Ross is a diva, and every time I hear this song I hear a double meaning. Coming out--showing yourself and being truthful. I'm sure it wasn't intended for that, but it was taken that way and it's WONDERFUL!

  • "I'm Coming Out" is the result of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards conversations with Diana Ross, wherein she intimated that she felt as if she were "coming out" from under Motown Records' restricting business practices.

  • this is goinng to my intro for tonight show

  • I'm a straight male and I like this song :/

  • @clj29360 That's great :D Don't let anybody tell you what you can and can not like

  • @clj29360

The only reason gay people like this song is because of the lyrics. Of course Diana Ross never meant the song to be taken in that context...

  • @clj29360 The meaning/intention behind this song has nothing to do with being gay.

  • i dropped this shit at a dubstep gig and someone threw a bottle at my head!! :D

  • @2CHUNKADUBSTEP that's a bit sad.... I remember Kode 9 dropping a Prince track mid set at DMZ's first birthday party and it went down well... which is as it should be...

  • its not about coming out of the closet.

its about making a new beginning after a bad relationship.

  • When my father passed away late 2005- early 2006, this song rang through my head; real weird action.

  • first pic...its MJ

  • DIANNA IS COOL. BUT SHE LOVES WHITE COCK.GREAT SONG THOUGH.

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS FUNK ..... LEME GET MY GIRLS WOOOOO

  • gay straight we all get one go at life live it love this tune

  • Comment removed

  • What a woman<3

  • Billboard's #98 song of '81. Diana hit #5 pop. #6 soul, in Billboard. Trombone solo played by Meco Monardo. When this song was released, I actually thought that maybe Diana learned trombone for the solo. LOL! God bless ya, Miss Diana!

  • I like this song ... I've got a skateboard video with this song !

  • <3

  • DIANA ROCKS FOR EVER AND EVER !

  • wen i was little like 5, 6, this was my favorite song, i had no idea what it meant. i am gay

  • @gleek101ism

This song isn't about gay people, that just your interpretation about it. I'm sure you interpret a lot of things to mean something similar...

  • @jrag1000 she told nile rogers that she felt like she was 'coming out' and he wrote this song for her. it is not about gays as such but it has gay roots...so to speak.

  • @wonderboyjoy

yeah everyone gets that part, it's the lyrics that can be interpreted to mean someone is secretly gay and coming out of the closet... There are probably 100 other songs that could fit that idea.

Who knows what one sees through "their" eyes. Gay people have been known to associate their lives with certain things that they deem to have gay symbolisim. For instance, i see a hotdog commercial and get hungry, example...

  • da bomb this chick wohooooo
