man... I got no words... damn... i woulda thought that was clyde on the set himself!.. lol ?uest knows he got that shyt so tight inside the pocket it's bananas!!!.... all three of'em are gettin off!..
Thay all laughing when quest goes down into the break cos its so def.....I love that, thats a proper version, they laughin cos its such a riddim...thanks for posting this.
This is DEFINITELY NOT Pino on bass on this. Totally different sound and feel, and there a couple of low C's played indicating a 5 string bass. I read Christian McBride was playing on this somewhere, which makes a lot more sense. A lot of guys were coming in and jamming during the Voodoo sessions.
pino is killin that #@$%^%$# bass d'angelo once again we miss u bro i read the article in spin magazine from June 2008 all of his people should take a look peace
This is dope. For ya'll that know about the song "The Funky Drummer" it's one of the most sampled songs ever (most in hip-hop). We have hip-hop due to people sampling this song and cutting it up in a million ways.
This captures a lot of the grits and chitlins and fatback of the original James Brown cut, especially the drums: DEAD ON THE CLYDE STUBBLEFIELD-MUST BE REAL THE MAN. DAAAAMMMMNNNN.
Got damn, the Voodoo sessions had to be awe-inspiring. If only a "Voodoo - The Complete Sessions" box set somehow got released, like they do for important jazz recordings. I'd be the first in line to buy that shit.
I've heard a dub of a radio show (on imeem I think) where ?uestlove played this, and explained that this was recorded before Pino was around. It's actually Christian McBride on the bass. ?uest just ran into him on the street or somesuch and invited him into the studio. I don't think Roy Hargrave's on there neither 'cause I can't hear no horns, just sounds like the trio.
Needless to say this shit is off the fucking chain.
It won't let me post the link, but if you go to imeem and search 'd'angelo funky drummer' you can hear the same track with ?uest giving a rundown on who's playing what from 4:30 onwards. Peace
lol yeah probably, it would sound nasty with Roy though is all i'm sayin..and even, john mayer on guitar...but this trio is fucking killing it nevertheless..
DASDAFUNK and CYNIKAL are CORRECT, this was done in a session with Pino Palldino and Questlove. these recordings were from the DAT's in the making of Voodoo, Questlove has himself confirmed who worked on what when in an interview at Red Bull Music Academy - search it on Google.
Besides, you can hear Pino's bass style, just listen
@outstretchedarm no dude i have just listened to it again. I cannot heart a sax, and I am not hard of hearing,. Point it out to me maybe? You can hear an acoustic piano in the background around the 2 minute mark w/ good headphones.
In reference to all this bizness' of people saying this is Pino - I am a bass player, Pino is my favourite bass player, this is not Pino. I reason I know it's Christian McBride is because?uestlove says it was Christian McBride. AND HE WAS THERE. PLAYING THE DRUMS.
The track in question as labeled and uploaded by Ahmir '?uestlove' Thompson himself is at SwiftFM.com under account 'questlove'. I can't post the link, but if you want the truth go over there and check it. It's even got an extra little jam at the end.
