My grandma used to work with him. She tells funny stories about scheduling monkeys on flights and the people she was talking to on the phone didn't believe her lol. She was present during the transplants. Really neat stuff.
this is beast. You don't have to become quadriplegic you know... They are trying to figure out how to not damage the nerves as much.. :D i'f this ever happens i'm going to hold up a hospital hostage lol xD

Work could be done today to perfect this if it weren't for the ethical and moral firestorm that would erupt. It may be that other countries where there is no free press or totalitarian regimes are already doing it. If you boil out the moral concerns, at its best, this type of surgery could save a Steven Hawkings. At its worst, Adolph Hitler or Joseph Stalin.
Robert White was just a sick little boy who liked to play with life and torture animals. There is no good to be gotten from an experiment like this, at least none that I can fathom. Who would want to be brought back from blissful death to become a quadriplegic? Unless, perhaps, they knew they were going to hell and wanted a little more time to repent.
Really? You want to tell that to all of the living quadriplegics do you? Tell them they would be better off dead you piece of shit? I don't think a life as ignorant as YOURS is worth living. Who would want to be so stupid? Maybe you should kill yourself and put yourself out of your misery?
It's in a transition phase as of yet, but eventually it will hopefully lead to successful human head transplants of people who's bodies are too damaged to support life. Why don't you use your imagination a little? You honestly aren't able to extrapolate the benefits of being able to transplant the brain to a body that is in relatively good shape if yours has been, say, run over by a train? I've seen a lot of dumb youtube comments, but the ones under vids about the brain are some of the dumbest.
I was able to use my imagination and extrapolate that, until the thought of "Where exactly are we going to be getting bodies that are waiting to be used?" came in.
Well, donor bodies I suppose, which would of course be a very limited supply because you would have to find someone who had died purely from a head injury AND was a donor AND you would have to compete with multiple people needing body parts so you could have the whole thing. Or maybe they take various good parts from various dead bodies and cobble you together a Frankenstein's monster body. But having the possibility there, slim as the chances may be, is better than no options at all.
Just reread my original post to you. Didn't mean to make you sound like you made a dumb comment specifically. I was just making a general observation and ran out of characters to specify that I wasn't talking about you specifically. Sorry.
Paving the way to cure paraplegics? I don't see how. This is not a proper transplant because both head and body are only joined by the blood vessels sewn together. The transplant head needs its nerves joined to the nerves of the new body. This was not possible in 1970, is not possible today and will not be possible for many decades to come. For a paraplegic to walk again you have to regrow the nerve fibers and this sort of experiment will not show us how to do that.
Crazy son of a bitch this monster.

Even if this type of technology became successful, only the rich would be able to afford it.
I seriously doubt that the day will ever come when anybody with HMO or PPO medical insurance would be able to get this done.

Something I've been wondering (and hoping someone could answer)
what scientific knowledge has been gained from being able to lop off the head of the one monkey and attaching it onto the body of another?
jarod2828 2 years ago
because humans and monkeys are so close in design, he now knows it can be done with humans aswell
