The wearing of what is called "sikha" in Sanskrit is common to all ancient oriental cultures except for the Buddhists, whose monks prefer to be clean-shaven. It is a symbol of reverence to the ancestors and gods among Hindus. It is interesting to learn how important was among the Chinese.
Good episode, I wanted to take Joe's place in this one and give that slimebucket a beatdown. Hop Sing never hurt anyone, never bothered anyone, was minding his own business and this coward and his elf sidekick has to go and mess with him just because.......gees it makes ya mad. Lacks the guts to go mess with someone his size.
It is interesting how much significance the pigtail came to mean. It was first imposed upon the Han Chinese men as a form of humiliation and identification by the conquers of the Ming Dynasty. The Mongol elite founded the Qing Dynasty and made the Chinese men shave their heads and wear a pigtail to humiliate them. I did not realize it had taken on an even religious significance with the ancestors and was a loss of face even before elders.
Little Joes hair grew quick enuff he could have loaned Hop some
