  • Is it just me or does the guy on bass looks like he should have been on Father Ted? ;)

  • Why is that windbag James Galway famous and this guy is not?

    Fantastic musician.

  • Isn't this 'Shores of Loch Gowna'?

  • have you got tab for this

  • whatr key of whistle is he playing in dose anyone know

    thanks

  • The key is in Low F and I think the whistle is a Kerry tuneable.

  • It's not a kerry but an overton. on chiffandfipple was interviewed Cormac.

    Who made your Overton F?

Well, it is an Overton, or "new" Overton whistle which I got cut by Cillian Ó Briain to fit a "tuner" - an aluminum slide on it. It is a very temperamental instrument which would drive any Sound Engineer mad as the tone changes so often in studio!

  • Yeah Kerry or Tony Dixion, its possible to do it in D just transpose the key although i wish people would do a tab for stuff like this

  • A little update on the title of the jig; its called "The Shores of Loch Ghamhna" and it can be found on the Deiseal-album called "The Long Long Note". Many thanks to feilimb for providing the info.

  • LOVE THE BASSIST FACIALS. it's like he's playing heavy metal. hahaha oh the 80s

  • Is this jig recorded on a Deiseal album, or was this just a live set? Can someone give me the name of the original jig with 100% accuracy? It would also be great to know what Deiseal has named this track if it has been recorded.

  • @abraxas123

I will ask Cormac and find this out for you

  • @ abraxas123

Cormac tells me the tracks are "Adele" and "Sporting Paddy", and these tracks were recorded some years later on his album Musical Journey (but not with the other musicians in this video)

  • Thank you for the reply. Really appreciate that you asked Cormac personally : ) Give him my best regards.

    -AbraXas

  • @feilimb Cormac's memory must be playing tricks! The first tune is The Shores of Lough Gowna, the second in the set (which is missed out here) is Aoibhneas Ui Cheallaigh. He recorded them on The Long Long Note. In any case, Sporting Paddy is a reel.

  • is that bassist using a fretless bass?

  • Yep.

  • Encore ;) !

  • Awesome music, and that bassist looks like he's off the Addams family :P

  • this probably the 50th time in a row...

  • Au! Too short! (...replay...)

  • damn, i cant stop listening to this, where can i get the cd?

  • Absolutely emotion evoking. What a fantastic fusion of contemporary jazz and a rocking reel.

  • Sorry, I don't want to spoil your party, but it's not a reel - it's a jig...

But never mind, it's absolutely brilliant, that's what matters.

  • whats the differnce between a jig and a reel?

  • Easy enough: a reel is in 4/4 time, a jig is in 6/8.

  • whats the name of the tune?

  • It's a version of Joe Derrane's

  • this really rocks!! Paul was the 'skint-est' musician in B'ham !!!! thanks for posting this

  • This man got me playing the low whistle years ago. Heard the Deiseal track of Si Beag Si Mor and I was hooked. Wonderful to see them "live" on YouTube;) - Zac

  • a good relation between folk and popular music. Well done.

  • howzaa Paul and Nelli!! GOOD Shtuff indeed....love it...

  • OMG...classic schtuff here. This guy has inspired many a low whistler. Truly a god of the feadog!
