  • Keystone Club, Kokomo Indiana, 1961, enough said.

  • When i worked in river island before it changed its image this was my favourite song..

  • I used to sing along to this song when it came on the radio before i properly learned how to talk.

  • Always loved this song, we used to cover it. Having no sax player, we improvised with a guitar solo.

@ manhatin, Big thanks for sharing a classic with the world. You know, the comments on YouTube prove there's no really good music anymore.

  • Why can't I share this video?

  • I was a little girl when this song was out. It's one of my favorites!!!!!!!

  • good roller skating tune.

  • Love Hank Ballard....I also like..."CONTINENTAL WALK"

  • Absolutely great fidelity from your vinyl. What is your cartridge?

  • @tmangos1

    Shure 75

  • A band I was in in the 80's (Wildside) used to play at this funky little Mojave desert bar called 'The Buckeye' and this was a favorite song, except my wife would change the words (because we live in Pinon Hills) "There's a thrill upon the hill, it's Drew, it's Drew, it's Drew" Yes, my name is Drew, how do you do?

  • Great recording! If this don't make you feel good, nothing will!

  • Happy FEET, that's right!!

    No Stoping!!

  • This cut is timeless ... I still & always will love Hank & the Midnighters

  • THE OVER THE HILL! Without a "Doubt! The SEXIEST" FUNKIEST" Dance "EVER".

  • HANK was still with THE MIDNIGHTERS when he recorded this....NOT SOLO.

  • Thank you for keeping his memory alive :)

  • manhatin better not mean Man Hatin'....

  • 6 knuckleheads are stuck in place.

  • I remember playing this at parties back in the day. Good Stuff.

  • @Wolf251982 This song will rock a party now, next week & on & on ...

  • Thank you YouTube, it took forever to find this song from my childhood! Thank you manhatin.....manhatin'?...

  • Great post!!!

  • A #1 song for Hank Ballard and The Midnighters on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 72nd #1 R&B hit in the Rock Era.

  • GREAT dance song from when i was a junior at Roosevelt High, St. Louis, Mo. Use to hear it and "You're So Fine" all the time at Radisson's back in '62. LUV it

  • 5 dislikes????...Must be Justin Beaverhead and 4 friends.

  • Good, very good song!

  • goin through the entire rock n roll hall of fame list. VERY VERY TALENTED awesome band. no disrespect but it isnt the exact rock n roll hall of fame im looking for though

  • True rock and roll! This is the stuff that I first heard and identified as that great sound that is now gone forever. The sax was king back then, not the guitar, and Hank was one of the early writers who pioneered the rock and roll sound. If I'm not mistaken I believe he wrote "The Twist" a big hit for Chubby Checker who imitated his voice as he covered the tune and created a dance phenomenon.

  • @fairlyfast Hell yeah! This is R&B at it's best. I love classic R&B like Hank Ballard, Fats Domino, Big Joe Turner, LaVern Baker, Ruth Brown, et. al. What a shame they didn't get the airplay they deserved because of them being labeled "race records". I can't stand the sanitized white versions of the original hits.

  • Everything time this is played in D.C., all of the Mckinley Techites go crazy singing "There's a school up on the hill ... Let's go, let's go, let's go." Great song for hand-dancing - old school. Thanks for posting.

  • Great song. Strong music and pure, no-holds-barred joy!

  • I was a little girl when this song came out. It will always be one of my favorites. It will always make me want to dance.

  • wow wow weeeeeeee

  • love that needle to record sound...

  • I cannot understand why Hank Ballard didn't make it big. I came up during this time and everyone loved this song and some of his others.

  • I am a year older than this song, and I have loved it ever since I was a little boy

  • Let's jitterbug!!! Love it!!!

  • For some reason, these great old records just sound better on a big ol' stretched out Maggie!!!

  • @Mrphatbastard1 Credenza crescendo! With a cadenza. MUCH better than a plastic boombox.

  • w-oo~! Kay

  • I totally agree with what you said about SID NATHAN. So Sad,,,some make history and THE WORLD NEVER KNOWS. I followed that situation as I got into radio in 1958. I remember when Sid didn't want to finance a LIVE AT THE APOLLO LP for James Brown,,so JB did it himself. After that NO PROBLEM

  • One of the ORIGINALS. Hank was never appreciated enuff.

  • just bought this for £6 ! what a bargin

  • Comment removed

  • Emma Lue Mcwhorter still dancing to this song. Emma R.I.P.

  • My favorite song to dance too, back in the days! Knowing Hank personally made the

    song a sheer delight!

  • I can't believe how great that turntable sounds.Must sound even better in person, got to be tubes firing up that great audio !! Listening to the back ground vocals on this record is a pleasure !

  • that is where annie had a baby

  • Gotta love it...One of the greatest originals talents ...

  • One of the most under appreciated singers of all time.

  • HANK BALLARD got inducted into the RRHOF ....BY HIMSELF. The MIDNIGHTERS didn't get inducted....THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN !!

  • @williamg2552 YEAH THAT WAS STUPID,,,The people (us) don't really matter to that "click" at ROLLING STONE do we?

  • I can still see Mommy now, doing the Madison. Miss you Mom :(, but thanks for the memory.

  • King Records still exists (in the same Nashville HQ it's been in since the Seventies when Moe Lytle's Gusto Records bought it from Lieber and Stoller and eventually adopted the King name and logos)...it currently issues bluegrass recordings and leases out the Starday, Musicor, Fraternity and Scepter/Wand catalogs as well as the non-James Brown King/Federal back catalog...along with, unfortunately, golden oldie re-recordings made for Gusto in the late 1970s.

  • @SeanElGatoTelevision WHAT!!!!! Wasn't KING RECORDS in Cincinnati?????

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959: It was...until it merged with Nashville-based Starday Records after Syd Nathan's death in 1968 and relocated there.

  • I heard this is gonna be in mafia 2

  • Una de las mejores canciones de 1960

  • me and caroline are dancin to this now its our 47th wedding anniversery rock on

  • HAPPY ANNIVERSERY !!!!!

  • @y00sta Oh Boy, God bless you both!!!!!

  • @y00sta Happy 48th anniversary! All night you gonna ball!

  • @y00sta > I want to wish the two of you many more anniversarys! My mom used to play this song every Saturday night and dance. They just celebrated their 58 years of marriage! They loved Hank Ballard and the Midnighters and so did I! This man could sing! Old style gospel!

  • Another one of the greatest songs... defines the idea of rock 'n roll!

  • i luv this song its my uncle's favorite song. i luv u uncle frank. i thought he sang the wahtusi but later found out it was by the vibrations not only they both sound alike but the wahtusi and lets go lets go lets go sounds so much alike as well

  • Sid Nathan didn't start out to find great artists, but they came to his studio/record production company in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rhythm and Blues artists and Country singers all showed up. They recorded some excellent songs, like this one.

  • There's a thrill upon the hill, let's go let's go let's go!!!! THANKS for posting this gem!

  • thank you for posting this. really great!

  • I perfer Mr .Ballards version of the twist to chubby checkers cover

It's easier for me to dance to

  • this is one of my fav hank Ballard tunes...

  • Wonderful tune. Hank and the Midnighters are under-appreciated.

  • @jballard459 >Definitely! My parents used to play this all of the time in the 70's on the old turntable! LOL! This group was definitely under-appreciated! They could jam! Hank Ballard recorded with James Brown, "On the Love Side" and I used to jam on that song back in the day when I was a young girl in school! My kids and kids today do not have groups and soul singers like this today and you can see the difference today too!

  • If you attended any house party or school sock hop in the early 60s this song was sure to be played. It filled up the dance floor with it's contagious, easy-to-dance-to beat. A definite party song way back then.

  • It was big in 60 at Myrtle Beach, SC! You had to dance when it played.

  • thx for posting this---I recently heard this son for the first time in decades and was wondering the name---A motown singer told me, it was like asking Moses about the ten commandments.

  • Hank and the Midnighters. Early and later. So overlooked. Great stuff. COFFEE GRIND time.

  • Let's PArty........................

  • wooo xD great stuff. um btw @ info, you are sayin', "The world has all but forgotten Sid Nathan and King Records"...that would mean, the world has done all sorts of stuff regarding Nathan, except forgetting him.

  • I just love this song for dancing and listening. One of the all time greatest.

  • awesome record player. bring back some...

    thanks.

  • This is the best version. I heard a remixed version on another youtube site. Didnt' like it. Just listening I'm dancing in my seat. Thanks for posting.

  • One of the best bass parts ever! But who played it?

  • What a super song by one of the greatest groups ever! Thanks for the visual of the old 45 rpm on the turntable.

  • Hank (RIP)recorded at King records in Cincy. I think he had a relative named Barbie in Cincy? I could be mistaken. I've been wrong before. She left for New York to song write and record in the mid 60's. Does anyone know of her currently, VLW69cancer? She was a wonderful young lady!

I've often wondered of her travels since??

Hank is on a PBS video entitled Doo Wop 51. You can find it for sale on the web on some of the oldies sites such as Rhino.

  • One of my favorites, along with E Bossa Cosi. I love these guys. I haven't forgetten them. I can't believe there isn't any video of them on here.

  • Wonderful track.

    Terrific vocals.

  • Wasn't much videoing going on no Camcorders and such on the Chitling" circuit in he 1950's. Many times I feel if I would turn back the clock I would.

Not for just my youth, but for the beautiful culture, the feel good music. From Billy Eckstein, Sinatra, Howling Wolf, James Brown, no one could have expected us to come to This"

  • Happy Feet All Over The World !

  • This is one of my favorites here of my dad(Hank Ballard). Missing You!!!It's been 5 yrs. and 5 months since you left us. LOVE YOU

  • VLW, is there a wway for me to find the sheet music for this song on line?

It's for my power metal band Triquetra

  • Hi this is VLW69cancer(LYNN). I truly don't know the answer to your question, i'm sorry! I'm sure that there is a way to find out, but i just don't know...Have you tried asking someone in a music store what to go up under to find out?

  • good stuff!! back in the old days mommy was in jail every weekend drinking that lightning!!! its better than everclear fer sure yall!

  • Hillbilly fraud.

  • The Vibrations had Watusi" that was patterned directly from this Tune! The dance to Hank Ballard, was called the Over the Hill, Sexiest Dance ever! The Vibration's dance was called Watusi! Country music adopted the watusi in the 70,s

And still do it calling it Country Line dancing.

  • Still sounds great.

It's great seeing your record player. Reminds me of the good olde days.

  • if ya can be still when this plays ,you are dead lol mr-warmth

  • jor99912, Way to "rate a record" !

  • The rockingist. dancingist, sexiest, Tune ever!

  • courtland8, I wonder if he'll ever get the recognition he deserves.

  • OMG...I remember my parents dancing in the living room to this...one of my favorites by Hank...I also like Continental Walk and Teardrops On Your Letter...is there any live show videos out there anywhere?...Nothing like these sounds around anywhere...Thanks!

  • @manhatin Maybe not, but the music speaks for itself. We know the man was definitely BADD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I grew up in Atlanta in the 50s and listened to waok and went to see Hank Ballard and the midniters in person. Had him on 78 RPM. He is buried in our old neighborhood

  • 57Will, I've had a passion for bringing out the life in recordings my whole adult life. The mistake many people make when "cleaning up" old recordings is removing frequencies that make the recording sound "alive" along with the frequecies that are associated with "noise". I'd much rather hear a littlr "noise" and still have a lively recording, than to have a "clean" track that has no life in it.

  • I must tell you, your system really brings "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go" to full life! One of my favorites by Hank.

  • Metallibanger64 , You should get that system out and fire it up. Most likely, the only thing that needs updating is the needle and stylus. These are still available from places like Needle Doctor.

  • WOW! That looks like a genuine, original, state-of-the-art sound system called the Hi-Fi. Ours was imported from England and consisted of a Le'ak pre-amp and amplifier, a Gerard automatic turntable, and a Wharfdale 25" loudspeaker. It's in my parent's attic somewhere and probably still works fine.

  • Labaron26 , We all had one something like this in the living room when we were kids didn't we ? My family's was a Sears Silvertone. By all means, Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go.

  • If I didn't know better, I would think that's the radio console in my family living room when I was a kid. It sure does look like it.

    Let's go..Let's go...Let's go.

  • dancingnature, Yeah, it's sad, he had to true groove.

  • grimmpoxer, About a year before he passed away, Hank Ballard was on the PBS show "My Music". He was as good as ever.

  • omigod, hes dead, im so sorry to hear that :(

  • I love this song. A friend of mine introduced me to Hank Ballard a couple of years ago. Hearing Hank Ballard & the Midnighters for the first time was like discovering a brand new "favorite band" long past the point where I should be having brand new favorite bands. Thanks for the post.

  • dancingnature, Some of my 45's have sat on the shelf for decades, most got lost in the shuffle of life, but a few still remain. I am so glad I held on to the ones I still have.

  • omigod this was pobably the 1st 45 i 'owned" ..my mom got it along with , chubby checker's the twist and shep and the limelights doing daddy's home ...i was 5 in 1960 & i still love this song

  • oh yeah, i definitely remember that blue 45

i was so fascinated with that song that id sit and watch the record go around and around ...cant do that now makes me dizzy ;D

  • Farrah, Thay were so dang happy back in those days. What were they thinkng ?

  • Freyja, I live in Cincinnati where King Records existed. Hank Ballard is all but forgotten here. That is a big-time shame.

  • that is a shame,manhatin...

that's the same as saying that the Flamingos have been forgotten in Chicago

  • Hank Ballardis one of the only singers that I honestly can say " he thought me how to sing" ( along with clyde mcfatter & brook benton)

  • Awesome song!!! I love music from the 60s. Thanks so much for posting this.

  • Steads, Let's go, Let's go, Let's go

  • come on people lets get some posts in here
