@DrumTeknique This wouldn't be the first time that she used something traditional ethnologic stuff from other places around the world^^ Nevertheless I like her. She's also just a poor artist(e) who wants to earn money^^
I'm very much used to listen to this mallari, live, with 1000s of people during the temple festivals in India. It feels a little different to see it with only very few people. :)
Mallaris are composed in Ghambeera Naattai Ragam. It has more notes not just three.
I can't really tell you the notes but it does have three speeds - and basically it functions to tell the faithful and all those around that the circumambulation of the image around the streets surrounding the temple will shortly begin. Mallar also means wrestler - it is to push the god to quickly start the festival.
@Nunthytha hmmm....I was wondering, which temple in Tamil Nadu is kept so clean!! Good job by the malaysian devotees in keepint the place clean and neat!
yup i do feel insecure to be associated with northerners, cos we're not the same :) No hard feelings, it's just that Dravidans and Northerners are worlds apart.
@Nunthytha even if aryans r really from india, they mixed with alexander's forces, arabic invaders etc, so the dna/mtdna cannot be the same, unless ur talking about human dna, in which case a british guy is the same as a sikh
anyway, india never did anything for dravidans or specifically Tamils. when thousands were killed in sri lanka, the only indian prime minister that did something was indira gandi. after her, all the rest have been just dirty politicians. So, i'm not indian, i'm just tamil.
When I hear this sound, I'd like to be in Thiruvarur again.. :( Could someone explain, what is actually a "Mallari"?

dravidians n northerners r just different in the language, but no differences in ethnic or culture, as they are from the same dna/mtdna pool.
