I love this movie! Totally campy, great lines ("show some respect for dead!"), great humor, awsome music, lots of gore and a hot, dancing, naked chick (and Tina has a real cute butt too)! However, this was one of the few moments in the movie that truly horrified me. The thought that when you die, your friends and family will gather around you and say "he's in a better place," while you lie there in pain, unable to move...

The book of the movie's far more serious than the film. In the book it explains more how the containers got to Uneeda, but also why the zombies behave as they do - its supernatural forces at work in the gas! It's a good read. Actually John Russo wrote 2 "Return of the living dead" books, one was for this movie and the other earlier version was a sequel to "Night"

I don't think what they say about the zombies is entirely true. If you cut off the head of the creature, even though it is a reanimated dead being, the separation of the the central nervous system takes away all ability of the body to move. Destroy the head, and thusly the brain, and you kill the whole organism.

Then again, I'm talking about "realistic" zombies, like The Walking Dead, not this campy, comedic-zombie stuff they did in the Return of the Living Dead series.

Look at something like Dawn of the Dead or The Walking Dead, something with humans facing undead, but still humanly limited creatures rather than supernatural monsters that simply can't die, even after dropping a nuke on them. Not only does it balance the scales where a zombie can re-killed, but it makes the story much more serious and dark, unlike this comedic stuff.

@TheOmegaParadigm They beat other Zombies tho, they don't die from gunfire (Midget Zombie in one scene gets shot several times but doesn't die), they show intelligence (A zombie used a walkie-talkie for more cops) and they can't be permanently destroyed by fire (They got nuked in the end but burning them will result in a fume which mixes with a raincloud, moving over another burial site and resurrecting more with rain=never ending supply of zombies)

@Kunglao808 My point exactly. The fact that they can come back after being destroyed by man's most powerful military technology spells "bullshit" for me. That's like two kids playing a game, and one kid "shoots" the other and "kills" him, but the other claims he has some invincibility shield or something. It's cheap, unrealistic and childish to make a creature that simply can never die, because that basically dictates that no matter what the protagonists do, the ending will always be the same.

The made the characters in the movie total idiots about thinking that you can't stop the undead. All you have to do is take out the brains of those ugly ass bastards. The undead bodies can't function with out the brain.
