I enjoy using this shot as well when playing at the club, following through with the left end as well, but that's probably because I'm a natural lefty who's been taught play with the right hand ... does anyone know if Santoro was lefty too or he choosed to play that way just for other reasons?
Little oddities like this shot are part of what makes tennis interesting. Santoro matches are so different to matches between any other players in the top 50. He's like an amazing club player rather than a professional (almost all of whom do the same few fundamental things every time they hit the ball). It's great to watch him mess-up the styles of players used to mostly slugging the ball back and forth from the baseline. He's beaten almost every great player in the past three decades like that!
dont get me wrong, santoro is one of the best players of the world- very long top 100, but to call him a magician- i cant hear it any more!
i would say federer has magic moments and also nadal with his incredible passing shots, but if i watch santoro- always slice and pushing the ball back with often no plan how to end a point- for me that isnt magic!
its magic because santoro pulls a win out of his hat against top 10 players with a rare tennis form. ie 2007 win over Dokovic Paris and wins against Safin.
its a double-handed (two handed) forehand and he lets go with the right hand after contact; he's still hitting with the right hand; its weird... don't know anyone in the top 100 who hits that like that...
He makes a follow through only with his left hand ,because that would allow him to continue his racquet head accelaration through the ball. If he didn't let go with his right hand he'd be limiting his movement and thus killing the accelaration. I believe that that is the way to go when slicing with both hands - I've seen Bartoli slice the ball like that on a couple of occasions and she does the same thing.

Santoro is Safin's nemesis. He has a record 7-2 over the russian.

i think its not quite appropriate to call him a magician, i think he is one of the best junkballer who reached a high pro level, not more!
people who play that style are very common in club level

If your mouth is as big as your talent you would've already faced this "junkballer"
he plays a double handed forehand because he played with too heavy rackets as a kid, and a double handed forehand is not a sign of a bad technique!

Melancholio74 - really?
i'm not so sure i can fully agree with you coz on his two-handed topspin forehand his right hand is still on the bottom of the grip

Raemon sluiter from the Netherlands also hits a double handed forehand, but he's outside the top 100 right now.
