Great game and great commentary. I agree about the KID. It's an awesome opening. Too bad it has fallen out of favor at top play, heard it was because of White's bayonet attack? But no one knows all the deep theories behind it at amateur level so it's still a great weapon. :)
lol, ok you confirmed that it was the bayonet attack that has sent black players running. Maybe that's a potential topic for the future. Not sure if you covered the Kasparov v. Kramnick championship match (think you might have), should be very instructive.
Yes it would be for sure; wasn't it those games against Kramnik that led Kasparov to abandon the opening altogther? I think it was, but I'm not sure. In any case, at club level it's a powerful weapon - and even at GM level if you have the guts for it! Radjabov is the shining contemporary example; hats off to him!
thanks brother Sean for posting such a nice postmortem of a great game and stating ur mature comments in a lucid manner..... Brother I would request you to kindly analyze an immortal game between tatakower and botvinik in which botvinik won with a decisive victory. If you would like me to post the PGN do let me know...
My pleasure azmasti! I am committed to doing this series and then one on endgame but in the future I may well cover this game - remind me in a few months! Botvinnik was a brilliant player and certainly deserves some attention. Thanks for your comment and happy Christmas!
what are those points or ratings that fritz or any other chess program gives in a position, like -2.5?? i have never understood that kind of ratings.....
As far as I know, the -2,5 score indicates pawn value. If you are at +3, then you are either physically 3 pawns ahead, or the position is so that you might as well be :)
I'm not quite sure this is the correct way to interpret the score, but when I analyse games in Fritz or Rybka this seems to correspond to with what is happening on the board :)
Don't ask me how the engine figures this score out though :)
Hiya - the ratings are always shown from white's point of view. For example if -2.5 then white is 2.5 pawns down overall. (He may be only a pawn down in material but have an inferior position that means he can't avoid losing more material, which is where the extra 1.5 comes from.) On the other hand it may say, for example, +2.00 and white is much better; two pawns up objectively speaking - even if he is down in material he may have a great attack coming. Hope this helps!
Hi Jeremy, yup for sure I love endgame theory - in my opinion it is by far the most important - and I'm really looking forward to making the series. Bit of trouble at the moment cos my net is down but it should be up and running again before long. All the best!

Thank you Sean. I'm learning from these videos a lot. Much more accessible than if I were to read the book myself. XD

Another great video in this series about Fischer. Are you still planning on doing an endgame series after the Fischer series is finished?
