  • I LOVE YOU YOU

  • My dad was really good friends with Iz. He was an amazing man, true talent. There will never be another like him. RIP brudda Iz

  • @4strokegirl I kinda envy your dad. I would have liked to have met Iz. His music has so much heart in it. Sad we all not have this much love for each other.

  • @myhomeonoahu I am familiar with that as well my friend. I was just debating with this brother about his stance on outsiders that consider Hawai'i as their home when it rightfully belongs to Hawaiians in the first place. Terms like "kanaka" or "kama'aina" are in reference to indigenous Hawaiians, not outsiders in Hawai'i Nei. As a Fijian, my people went through what Hawaiians are enduring right now and it's sickening to see how Hawaiian culture and values are being exploited for evil.

  • @fijikid80 You know if you were familiar with the Hawaiian culture you wouldn't be saying such ludicrous statements as "rightfully belongs to Hawaiians". In the Hawaiian mindset, the land is not a piece of property. There was no such thing as real estate in Hawaii. The land was an elder sibling who would nourish the people and keep them alive. That was made very clear with the story of Papa and Wakea as the first human, the islands, and the sacred kalo were all born of Papa and Wakea

  • @mauiboynokaoi i know a chant about the birth of the islands and about Papahanaumoku and Wakea. I'm pretty sure it goes something like this: O wakea noho ia papahanaumoku Hanau o Hawai'i he moku Hanau o Mau'i he moku Ho'i hou o wakea noho ia ho'ohokukalani Hanau o Moloka'i he moku Hanau o Lana'i, ka'ula he moku Liliopu punalua o papa ia ho'ohokukalani Ho'i hou o papa noho ia wakea Hanau o Oahu he moku Hanau o Kaua'i he moku Hanau o Ni'ihau he moku He ula a'o Kaho'olawe
  • @HAWAIIANPEOPLES You're talking about the kumulipo. It's actually a really damn long chant and that is just one small excerpt from it. My kumu once got together with a bunch of other native speakers and recited the chant down here at the local arts and culture center. Took 4 hours for them to complete the chant. Also note that Kaho'olawe is never born. It just says Kaho'olawe is red. With red being the color of royalty, I think it implies Kaho'olawe as being the most sacred of the islands.

  • We love you, Iz, in our hearts you stay forever

  • i'm HAWAIIAN at heart......Polish by birth-3rd generation American by birth. I think God intended for me to be a Polish Hawaiian Girl..... :)

  • lol hahaha hawaiian at heart your funny dont its all good in the islands for you be stayin there but dont say you are hawaiian its a slap in the face to the very few of us who are left

  • You go...no worry about the ones that say "ohhh be careful" "don't say that you are Hawaiian" to them say FU..The true Hawaiian has a wonderful soul and is not threatened by someone that feels good about the culture.

  • @Krystyna08 I totally understand you:) I lived in Hawaii for 3 months and I was always in love with this place... It's wonderful how they still love Iz and how you can still hear his music in the streets. So Aloha from one Polish Hawaiian Girl to another and Mahalo for being truly Hawaiian:)

  • @Krystyna08 ^_^

  • @Krystyna08 How can you refer to yourself as "Hawaiian at heart" when you have NO Hawaiian blood in you? It's definitely a slap in the face to those few left that are actually Hawaiian and have been persecuted and continue to be chastised for their ancestral heritage in their own homeland of Hawai'i. To be Hawaiian is just like the rest of the native people in the Pacific: ancestral blood and ancestral ties to specific lands within an island group. If you don't, please don't say so. It's wrong!

  • @fijikid80 Who cares? It's called Kama'aina. You should be happy there are others who are interested in the Hawaiian culture, instead of them trying to force other cultures on you. Your attitude is definitely not Hawaiian, and you should be embarrassed.

  • @michaeljjlove Why should I be embarrassed? I'm just stating the facts. I know too many Hawaiians that hate non-Hawaiians trying to claim Hawaiian when they have no blood.Get your Hawaiian straight too. Kama'aina refers to commoners of Hawaiian blood and those not of Hawaiian chiefly/royal background. If you're gonna talk about Hawaiian attitude, that is exemplified by those that are actually Hawaiian. Being born in Hawaii or living there doesn't give you the right to claim Hawaiian in any way.

  • @fijikid80 Actually you're wrong. The LITERAL meaning of Kama'aina is CHILD OF THE LAND. Someone who is born there, or feels like they are at home when they are on the islands. Spread aloha & love, that is the real attitude. Idk what you're problem is, there aren't very many full blood Hawaiians left, would you rather the culture die out? I don't think so. I have many hula sisters who don't have a drop of Hawaiian in them but it doesn't matter to me, they are just as proud of Hawaii as I am.

  • @michaeljjlove Look Slick, I know what the literal meaning of kama'aina is, but it is in reference to Hawaii's NATIVE CHILDREN, which you are obviously NOT! Just because you live somewhere doesn't give you any right to masquerade as "Hawaiian at heart" or any BS like that. As a foreigner, you're adding to the obstacles Hawaiians have to regain their freedom. The more you foreigners leave, meaning Asians and Americans, the better chances Hawaiians have to become a nation again.

  • @fijikid80 Excuse me 'Slick', you need to stop making an ass of yourself with assumptions because ACTUALLY I am of Hawaiian blood. You need to open your tiny little mind to others. Americans did ruin Hawaii, but I think if they were all to leave again it would be very bad for Hawaii since they are so used to it. Look at Waikiki, they make soo much money off haoles. BUT there are people with white skin that respect & love Hawaii just as much as I do, you should feel ashamed for acting like that.

  • @michaeljjlove Wow, you are beyond colonized in your mind, aren't you? Talk about brainwashing! You're probably a "proud American", huh? Sad! Your own people were able to survive for thousands of years without outsiders, but for you to think that outsiders leaving Hawaii would be a bad thing......you are truly lost my friend. Open your eyes buddy and look around you. All of it belongs to Hawaiians, not the outsiders making Hawaii their home. Why relinquish what rightfully belongs to you anyways?

  • Comment removed

  • @Krystyna08 No. You're kanaka at heart, kanaka by birth, and ?th generation kanaka by birth. Part of the Hawaiian culture is this idea of flexibility and dynamics. It is clear by simply examining he kumulipo that Hawaiians didn't care what you thought, where you came from, or how long you had been there. If you lived there, you were family. Simple as that.

  • @Krystyna08 hahaha i feel the same way! Polish Hawaiian Girl i am! Was just telling my hubby to move there cuz nothing keeps us here in NY!!!! I love Hawaii!!!!!

  • @Krystyna08 I get what you mean! I'm Italian-American, Irish-American and German-American, but I feel like I'm meant to be Hawaiian!

  • its actually about a young couple who was dating and they would take the bus around town and visit their family who would cook for them. each verse is a different thing they used to do

  • I don't have the literal translation of each word, but he's basically singing about the local street cars that would race down the streets of downtown Honolulu. That's basically it. When he does the. "Vrooom" sounds at the beginning, he's basically mocking the sound the cars would make. Hope this helps.
