Did your intake come with the ETI module for the MAF? I hear its made to keep the MAF in rage due to the bigger tube. It keeps these 5.4's from running too lean. The larger tube makes the air move slower, so the MAF thinks that its getting less air. The ETI makes up for that.
@heatherandpaul2 This intake did not require an ETI to make power. My personal truck still has it on there and it's not running lean at all as witnessed by towing in the SoCal heat with it on our horrible 87 octane and no problems!

Everybody says k&n this k&n that k&n is overrated and overpriced piece of shit, For intake systems and filters AEM blows them out of the fucking water
do intakes void the warranty? i think they do but can you just remove it and go stock when taking it to a dealership? I heard they can figure it out on newer cars because of the computer but i really have no idea.
@grandcyclops Intakes do not void the warranty, but if they are not C.A.R.B. exempt you can get a ticket or not pass smog depending on the state or city in which you live.
Sweet!! Sounds great. Thanks for posting this video. Because of this video, I just bought the AEM BruteForce 21-8117 for my 2005 F-150 5.4L. Got 1 day shipping, it will be here tomorrow, can't wait to install it!!
@mifan93 Only up to the 1999 model, after than, it's a F150 with a 5.4 and the F250 with the Diesel. The intake manifold is different on the F250 and F350 with the 5.4 compared to the F150 - silly Ford...
I want one of these for my 2006 4.6 F-150 but I don't think they make them. AEM please help me!!! BTW I live in very dusty place, I have to replace air filters every month. How does it handle dusty conditions?
Filter is a snap to clean, it is a dry flow and does not use oil, so in a dusty environment dirt doesn't stick to it ad there's no risk of over-oiling your filter and gumming up your mass air flow sensor. Also, the dry-flow does a better job over a longer time than oiled filters, and the dry flow is completely reusable. One of the guys has it on his F150 and has gone from 13 mpg avg to 15mpg. On the freeway the intake is quiet but once you stand in the throttle it sounds GREAT :-D
*Never* used compressed air to clean the dry flow (or any fabric filter - it can tear it!), just water and cleaner (even Simple Green works great), and rinse with *low* pressure from inside out out (push the dirt back out the way it come).
I just read the cleaning instructions on AEM's site. Sounds about right. When most people think of compressed air they think of really cranking on it. Ive always got more life out of non re-usuable filters by just lightly back blasting the air out. Sounds like a bucket and some water with Simple green should do nicely on this. Again. Really appreciate your time. Turns out the AEM is cheaper than the K&N and it uses the stock MAF sensor. A engine code bonus.
Right on! In regards to the use of compressed air: we don't suggest the use of compressed air since if it somehow gets focused it can tear the filter element and not be noticed. For the dry flow, you can actually remove the filter and gently bang it against something and some of the dirt fill fall out. The off road racers love the filter for this reason!
cleaner air. don't want dirty composits in your intake manifold and it's easier to breath for the car. try running around people who are smoking. it's the same with a car with a bad intake. you need clean air. there you go.
Not necessarily clear air as much as it's cooler air that has less flow restriction. We are right there with you on runnnig around a bunch of smokers though - ACK!
thanks! I have put alot of work into this truck. I am currently having the heads ported and getting custom grind cams with phaser limiters and springs. It will sound even better after that!
Glad someone did a comparison like this,I always wondered what another cold air kit sounded like on an F150.I have the S&B kit on mine and i hate it! Mine sounds like a pregnant hippo in agony!!Help me help me!

I have a 98 F250 5.4L that I am looking at doing an intake on. Can't decide between K&N or the AEM. Live in Washington State.

Our vote is for the AEM ;-)

Any technical reason or just that your truck sounds badass in this video? How is the filter to clean? Is it re-usable? Oil? Etc...

I am assuming compressed air then to clean it? Hey Thanks for the great info. I am seriously considering this intake now.

true. the colder, the better it performs and longer it lasts.
