Just to set the record straight, the real singer is African-American Cynthia Johnson who sang the lead vocal for One-Hit Wonder group Lipps, Inc., whose hit "Funkytown" went To #1 on the US pop chart in May of 1980. The actual group is in the video found at v=5CImrIKNmBo. What I'd really like to know though, is the story behind Doris D (a.k.a. Debbie Jenner) lip-synching to Lipps, Inc.'s hit. Very infectious song, but what a rip-off of "Funkytown" hee hee! Janschen & Janschen who wrote it also wrote all the material for LUV' and also copied quite a few things (compare Luv's "U. O. And discoguy79 is right - Debbie Jenner didn't sing on "Funkytown", she was just a lip-sync model for the video for Musikladen so she was never a member of Lipps Inc. since Cynthia Johnson sang it.

Steven said it was okay to use her experience in this song. So, it means she is no stranger to the 'Funkytown' song, cos she performed in it herself. But the singers of both groups change formation, maybe that is why I do not get your point..

I recall that I used to listen to their songs on the records! Sorry, their songs never reached into the foreign hit chart in Japan at those days. Though their quality was high, they weren't very famous in the far east. 'Cause there were too many pops and disco groups as their rivals, the Market was full enough!
