  • so is this 1001 CF reader the Toshiba 1.8" HDD for laptops or a USB / memory card reader ??

  • personally i like benhecks version it looks cooler

  • that is rad

  • My 8 core Mac Pro with 10GB of Ram cannot give me those 30 frames per seconds yet.

  • freakin slick!!!!!! LOVE the 1001!

  • that music kinda reminds me of music from the first burnout

  • great job! and yaiiiiiii drunk chessboard :D my favourite Atari demo :D

  • ? lol

  • Hah.....finally got crownland to work? :D

  • I'd prefer to see popeye or pole position in ths great video of your state of the art. COngratulations

  • you sure did a great job!

  • Nice :)

  • xbeetle could you tell me how to do stuff like this i want to make a ps2 laptop

  • Very nicely done! Specially like the way how you preserved the XL look!

  • Is this really an atari? The Graphic is really incedible

  • It is really an old Atari 600XL inside. The blurry picture of my cam (videomode of photo camera) lets it look less blocky :)

The Demo you see is not really new, but surely one of nicest looking on Atari 8 Bit.

  • @mbrandhu The Atari 8 bit graphics WERE incredible. The best in the world when the 400/800 machines were released in 1979 and held up for a pretty long time. Compare to the C64 that was release in 1982, that was AGES later in that period because of the fast hardware developments. I've seen this laptop at a fair in Holland, amazing work I love it !

  • @mbrandhu There are many tyoes of Ataris. You are probably thinking of the 2600.

  • ahh yes... the good times

  • I love that song

  • In fact, I wish my PC made some cool sounds like that. I would love to hear some beepings or something when typing for example. That would be cool, but also helpful.

  • Another great song! I love the sound of this chip. What's the name of the sound chip on this machine? The graphics are impressive for a relatively old machine like this. How old is it?... did Atari machines always make that kind of noise when processing?... it reminds me of recieve printers used in many sotres... it's a bit annoying, but everything old school sounds and feels cool, and so does this.

  • Hey pal, really nice mod!

By the way, are you using SpartaDOS?

What is the name of the nice file loader that you are using on this video? Is this part of the CF reader package?

    Thanks!

  • The very first menu you see is the Speeder plus OS Menu (XL OS replacement). The file loader is a basic Norton Commander clone for Atari called Toms Navigator. It works as DUP.SYS replacement for MyDOS 4.50. It is very comfortable and easy to use. It came as Software for polish 3rd party diskdrives called the Toms 710 and Toms 720.

  • Cool! Thank you very much for your response!

Yesterday, after some researching on the net, i found some messages from you in the Atariage website, talking about the Toms Navigator. ;-)

What kind of CF interface you are using in this machine? Is it SIO2IDE? I'm wondering if the Speeder plus will work with my MyIDE interface . . . will try it anyway :-)

    Thanks again for your help!

  • Yes, its a SIO2IDE 3.3a. Cheap and simple.

Speeder plus OS supports any highspeed SIO device, but not the MyIDE, sorry :)

  • ment game boy

  • OMFG this si the same music that they was in prehistoric man for game bot original nintendo ripped off Atari :O

  • WANT. NOW CAN I HAZ COOL HACKZ PLZ?

  • I doubt he'll sell that to you man.

  • WAT

  • What is the box to the right? Is that a CF drive that emulates Atari SIO? I'd love to get my original dying Atari floppies onto something more long-lasting like that!

  • It is exactly what you think of it. But this is my oldest video of the Laptop. A CF reader is now integrated to the device. Ist hooked onto the SIO port with the 'SIO2IDE' interface by Marek Mikalojewski. The external CF drive i made out of a broken 800XL case. Its called 'Atari 1001'

  • they tried

    \

  • Incredibile

  • They can make 3D during the 70's era.

    How cool is that!

    And it's written in C!

    2k hackers, suck that!

  • thats so cool!XD

  • I really like that! I dreamed of building one myself. Can you tell us more how you made it?

I see the top half is a real XL, what did you use to fabracate the rest? Whats the top back half made of? What brand TV did you use?

    What batteries? Composite or S-video?

  • Mind spinning around the entire machine showing it up close and personal? Very nice machine it is! =D

  • Very cool, but the flat panel technology did not exist back when the 8bit computers were the thing. But the computer looks great. I still have an 800xl in the attic.

  • awsome,is that a 1200xl? (i used to have one of those)wait i dont see the f keys,prolly 800xl

  • Hehe, it was an 600XL before.

I took parts of an 800XL, a 1050 and two 1027 shells to assemble

my Laptop. 4 tubes of cyanacrylate glue as well ;-)

But, my "1500XL" (i call it that) has same

footprint as the 1200XL, and its brown keyboard part

    has similar dimensions, too.

  • either way it still kicks butt,i still have and use my 130xe,NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE 6502!!!! hehe

  • Wow, great work !

  • Beautiful!

  • yeaaahhh i want it!!

  • That's AWESOME - I'll take two! :-)
