VH and DLRoth was like the perfect marriage. It worked so well. Then Came Sammy. It was amost like a different band. Good but not great. Nothin against Sammy as alot of what he did was good. On his own great. I guess there were alot of other factors that affected the "second marriage". Eddies serious drinking problem being one of them. Looking back there are only a small handfull of bands that have changed lead singers and managed to keep kickin ass. Black Sabbath and Ozzy and then Dio, AC/DC .
why did ed decide to play the bass when recording this? why couldn't they have mike do it? oh that's right, ed and al were unhappy that mike went on the sammy and dave tour. thanks for stabbing mike in the back ed. now get back to your drinking.
Not sure why the internet inspires people to go to extremes - but most VH songs are reviewed as "best ever" or "worst." This is far from VHs worst of the Hagar years -- see "Inside" from 5150 for that distinction. It's not even in the handful of VHs "overall worst," where songs like "How Many Say I" reside. It's actually a pretty good song with Hagar's typical ham-fisted sexual metaphors. In that sense it's classic Hagar-era VH. The biggest culprit here is probably the mix, which is not good.
The keyboard sound/intro is a direct rip off of "Why cant this be love"??Thats all I could think when I heard this. And terrible lyrics--- lie a bad rehash of "poundcake"These guys were out of ideas on this one.
@icetrucker1956: Oh, I understand it. This song was made at VH's worst period, the last Sammy Concert. Sammy didn't lose his voice or touch, but it sure wasn't as good as it was during any of his work with VH. Eddie became a complete asshole, wanted to control everything, and didn't really care about making good music. He also didn't even let Michael play the bass parts. That leaves Alex as the only one left to be awesome, and he, as great as he is, can't make or break a song by himself.
There may not be any perfect songs, but there are a lot of great songs and this is one of them. NEVER CRITICISE WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. As far as weird lyrics is concerned, they've been by every band that ever did anything of note from the Beatles to Green Day. In case you don't get it, the Beatles weren't the first and it's never going to stop. Whatever great song there ever was, some airhead is bound to find something they don't like. Just as I don't like Hip Hop, but I never criticise it.
@TuffMedicine Man Dat tone.. for a newer song this is one of the best tones he's had for a long ass time.. I hope the new album gets back to the nitty gritty.
This track could've been on "5150", for it reminds me of "Why Can't This Be Love",with just more groove. The greatest rock band in the world !! I wish they'd done more. First new music in 6 yrs. by this point. I was just happy to get some new VH at the time. I don't care for the "new band" this time (Sorry Wolfgang & Roth). I will alwas remember VH as Ed,Al,Mike,Roth,Sammy & Gary, period !!
I don't mean to direspect Sammy Hagar or get into the Dave vs Sam thing, but being a life long VH fan I think Sam's stint in VH had run its course. That was back in 96 when he quit/fired. When I heard this song I thought "imagine if Dave's vocals were on this!!" EVH's guitar playing & songwriting was going into a exciting, dark, deep & aggressive road (Fair Warning type!!). Me Wise Magic on the VH greatest hits vol 1 is an amazing peice of music, it had all the magic that made VH great.
The bass drum is practically non existent here, so lame. The music is ok, the song grooves but as soon as Hagar opens his mouth & you hear what this red rocking retard wrote for lyrics...well, you just have to laugh at this pile of shit !!
@Kickstart25 I thought the drum sound on FUCK and VHIII was amazing. Balance was OK but the bass drum was too loud, IMO. They kind of hacked through these tracks at 5150 w/o a producer. That might be a reason.
The production is good, drums sound awesome coming from a drummer, although the bass drum is a bit weak. Cool music, but the lyrics are brutal. coming from a huge VH fan thissong could have been better. Love the groove this song has
This song is shit.
It's Sammy at his best lyrically and vocally though... LOL
VAN HAGAR IS DEAD! New VH blows this sack of shit out of the water.
