Love the footage from "Tuskegee Airmen" the HBO 2000 version of this wonderful story. Hope they use lots of real ariel footage and not CG in Red Tails.
14 years after the Little Big Horn, the 7th Cavalry was entrapped in a box canyon, and if it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry, there would have been a second massacre of the 7th Cav.
The Buffalo Soldiers, 9th Cavalry was rewarded with Presidential Parade Escort and Guard Duties for accomplishments, furthermore; the 9th Cav. received as many citations as most of the white cavs.
Read the epic novel, "Rescue at Pine Ridge", 5 stars Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
I taught a man named Ed Willette how to use his Nook color ereader out side of dayton ohio. He comes to every nook night at the Barnes and Noble and brought me an autograph of him and Barack Obama. I felt so happy and useless at the same time. I have two degrees and make very little money. I'm joining the Marines as an officer or Air-force if the Marines don't work out. I feel like its the right thing to do. Maybe I
I had a coincidence. My father's 5th bomb Wing (B-17 463rd BG) was escorted on several occasions by the 332nd FG.One time was on July 18th,1944.Last month I walked across the street to talk to my neighbor and his friend's stepdad was a Hugh St.Clair Warner who shot down a Me-109 on July 18th,1944.I was amazed. His friend has a few pictures of Lt.Warner and his P-51 which I still need to see.
the tuskegee airmen overcame racism by their courage in battle and put a hell of a whipping on the Luffwaffe and never lost a bomber under their protection. To skip1lp your grandfather deserves credit in their sucess. I was honored to meet a surviving member of the tuskegee airmen at an air show in Columbus,Ga years ago.
Awesome story and feats by these men! I have an unending respect for all the pilots of the wars, especially ones such as the Tuskegee Airmen, who endured untold hardships. Not to take away accomplishment from these men or respect, but simply to correct a mistake; the 332nd actually did lose bombers... Not sure how many, but the notion that they never lost a single bomber to enemy aircraft is unfortunately not completely true...
War is a dirty business, with that being said my grandfather was a mehanic for the Red Tails, I myself am a graduate of Tuskegee University. I'm also a USMC officer. I'm very proud of all those that went before me, and open the doors so that I can walk through them.
salute....they should be treated equally and respected....several black armoured units in the ETO served with distinction...with many medals awarded to them as well..they kick ass too..on the ground..
i agree with phonix032 that white bastard racist americans plague any video with a black, mexican, arab, jew or indian. death to these racist whites!!!
Great tribute video but I want to tell you something that my dad (B-17 Pilot in the 15th AF) told me while he was alive. He noticed this error in a couple of PC flight sims too.
He told me that the fighters didn't enter the FLAK designated areas that the bombers were in near the target.
Instead the fighters went after targets of opportunity near the target area.
That film was co written by and based on the life of Robert Williams of the 100th F.S. , 332nd F.G. His plane was "Duchess Arlene" #10 bearing the same nose markings you see in the film, which are the markings of the 100th F.S. The 99th initially flew P-39s & P-40s.. then in May/June of 44 they briefly flew P-47s... in July of 44 they transitioned tio P-51C's and later the P-51Ds similar to what you see you see in the film.
Truly the best of best. I thank all of the Tuskegee Airmen for their service. I cannot imagine the all the racism they endured just to protect a country that hated them. As a black man I and a Iraq War veteran I want to thank you all for showing the world that we can do anything if given a fair chance
But yeah man agreed. Red Tails kicked all ass in WWII. Even after the high qualification were set by the Army to only accept those who had top flight level experience and higher education, they were surprised how many African American guys exceeded that. It's stupid to not let them fight and be treated fairly, we're all on the same team. Racism sucks.
I'm not black but I respect the hell out of these men. Definitely proud of their accomplishments.
My grandfather was in the 99TH, man he had a story to tell u about those times and godspeed with his soul & RIP grand dad & the other airmen as we owe them our thanks for making history for what it is now, I'm happy to be american to the bone.....
Excellent clip. It's a pity that these P-51's are later versions that I'm not aware the Tuskegee Airmen flew? That, and the lack of the distinctive red tails. I met four of the Tuskegee vets in 07 and will never forget the time I had with them.
I dont even think they had P51's till much much later in the war. I believe if you read the Book Black knights, it gives accounts of them having P40's and P47's which were hand me downs from other squadrons. some didnt even get P51 mustangs at all. Never the less the book is amazing I recommend it to everyone. I had my copy autographed by a few of the men of these men.
You're right. For a short time they even had some P-39's. Their P-51B's appeared in 1944 with the D version we see in the film starting to appear in the Fall of 1944.

My respect is valid for all pilots of all nations,
everybody for himself believed right for your country to act and, besides, so courageously and proudly fulfilled your duty.

Tuskegee Airmen Incorp. San Antonio Texas
Look us up .
The Airmen have chapters in every state.
Here in San Antonio we have 7 documented original airmen. documented meaning there is paperwork to prove the men were trained at Tuskegee.
