  • There at Walmart for $30

  • @GSRGOPEDRIDER247 $30???? I just saw this knife yesterday at Dicks Sporting Goods for $60. I am glad I decided not to get it. I will go to my local Wal-Mart today.

  • i just got this but with half separations

  • @teddybear3100 serrations not separations :D

  • My dad sed why you carry a knife you never need. And he has this knife

  • its only for right handers?

  • I have carried this knife everyday for 6 years. It is beat to hell but is still rockin! I would highly recommend this great knife.

  • Found one at my local Walmart for $30 today, so they're still out there on clearance if you're looking for one. Very cool knife.

  • This should be Batman's knife.

  • @SuperRip7 yep - and the Blur should be Spidermans :D

  • Now this is a great knife review. Much better focus and time use. References to other blades very short and concise. Awesome.

  • caught a nasty splinter in my foot a few weeks back. that awesome fine tip of the blackout dug it out like butta~! Don't blunt that tip spiking the blade into wood needlessly. For non-abusive use i was impressed with the sanvidik steel. I dare say with a spyderco ultra fine stones and strop, you can get it equal or sharper than out of box.

  • I just got one at Walmart for 30 dollars OH YEAH!

  • I got one at Walmart on clearance for 30 bucks (also another skyline on clearance) it's a combo edge. I like it but I can't believe you did mention the JIMPING (sp?) witch sucks, it recesses into the spine on the handle witch isn't jimped so my thumb rest on the slick part still like the knife tho.

  • @Slingsomelead Same here in PA, both for $30 each!!!

  • The Blackout is an excellent blade!

  • I do everything with my Endura FFG but i just got one of these. Fun knife to play with, and it wont break the bank either.

  • Great knife

  • imma buy mine at walmart either that or the leek

  • got my at wall-mart 35 bucks

  • @5050relic they sell the kershaw blackout at walmart?!?!?

  • Got mine at Wal-Mart, forty bucks.

  • why should the clip be on the other end?

  • It gets annoying when he keeps harping about skeletonizing. Your arm weighs several pounds, losing an ounce is a trivial difference but having gunk build up in the crevices is a pain to clean out and unhealthy if you use it for cutting/eating food.

I've never been glad that any knife I had was skeletonized! Oh, YES IT DOES EFFECT STRENGTH. Where do you get the idea it won't? To make something skeletonized that is as strong you have to have a larger geometrically supporting structure.

  • That's been my EDC knife for about 6 years. I used to carry a Gerber EZ out.

The blackout is a great knife.

  • Good review, nutnfancy, as always.

I ordered the Kershaw Blackout a couple of days and have received it. It is a very nice knife, however I noticed 3 things about it. The thumbstud, which has very rough texturing, is very abrasive and digs into the thumb. It is also a little too close to the handle. Finally, the liner lock is SHARP and will tear up your thumb.

But overall it is a cool knife, and I'd give it a 7/10, like you put. Not perfect, but good

  • I've used this knife for forever, modified it to hell and back, and I swear I love it.

  • Ever since i first held a blackout and saw this video last year, i have always wanted one, but the price wasn't right. I found one at walmart for $40 today and bought it. I love this knife, and it is in 14c28n not 13c26n.

  • @rbandgh3 i have a question, can you flip the thumb studs to fit a lefty?

  • @9FDproductions Yeah you can, but the pocket clip can not be flipped. When holding it lefty, it isn't a problem, but putting it in your pocket might be a problem..

  • Is this knife available in a bigger size? Or is there anything like it, only bigger?

  • @iJack97

    Try the Kershaw Blur

  • Can you get this knife in a bigger size. It looks tiny in your hands

  • Hey Nutn what do you think of the Kershaw 1660 Keel series ?

  • can you review the smith and wesson hrt boot knive

  • u and john fitzen go a long way,. cool to hear u talk about razors ege :)

  • also, i just removed the tiny little lanyard hole thing, the lanyard hole is gigantic now :D

  • my kershaw blackouts tip broke. it was the sandvik steel, so I was suprized. But I ground it down, and now it's a nice reverse tanto spear point fusion type thing.

  • Hey nutinfancy what is the difference between the kershaw whirlwind and the kershaw blackout ?

  • I just scored a barely used Kershaw Blackout on eBay for $20 plus $3.00 shipping.

Outstanding deal!!! It's partially serrated and in excellent, like new condition with the 1550ST blade. Best of all, and Nutn forgot to mention...it's MADE in the USA. :)

  • Hey nutnfancy, i just ordered my first switchblade (also my first knife that i purchased) and I'm wondering if you could give me any tips for it please. I bought it mainly for work, but i might end up carrying it around anyways. It's a carbon fiber handle with a 3 1/2" black finished 440 stainless steel Assisted Opening blade

It says that it has an thumb stud and extended tang for easier one handed opening

    What's a tang?

    Thanks nutn

  • im an armour officer i dont care about weight

  • the current kershaw blackouts have Sandvic 14C28N steel, i own one its a pretty good steel holds an edge well.

  • wich do you like more serated or not for knifes?

  • whats an edc knife?????

  • @magicalchuck ever day carry :}

  • Hey, nutnfancy, I just wanted to share that, when using this knife in a moderately sandy enviornment, sand easily got into the....what to call it...I guess it got into the way of the torsion bar? and I had to unscrew the knife, and take the small stones out for it to open. I'm just saying, if you're in an operation in a sandy enviornment, you don't want your knife to not be able to open, but that's what happened to me. D:

  • just picked this up today and its sweet!

  • the first day i had this knife it fell out of my hand and the tip got chipped

  • my dad tried digging a bullet out of a tree stump with this knife and snapped the tip off. and it was torture/over use.

  • this is 1 of those kinds of blades that fulfills both kinds of cool if u ask me...Just a beauty and a functional knife from the looks of it heheheh, keep it rockin

  • I just got this knife, my blade says 1550 is this good steel?

Gonna pass this vid along to some buddies, thanks.

  • @IwinbyKO That's not the steel. That's the model number. You probably have a Sandvik 13C16 model. Good high value all 'rounder.

  • @Reaper87xx

Hey thank you, sounds like a got a good one then, I got it because the blade says Ken Onion made in USA, not many US made knives at the $60 range these days.

Or at least here in Guam where i'm working, go figure.

  • I love this knife! I carry it every day, don't even know it's there. Good review!

  • I think ill buy this for my dad on his birthday

  • @fappometer14

Do it. he will like it.

  • I want this

  • my friend carries this knife and the tip of the blade broke.. haha

  • nutnfancy you should get paid for your opinions..u keep it real as fuck

  • great knife i carried it everyday pretty much for roughly six months pretty good use out of it the only things that got me is my tip chipped a bit i had the combo edge and a few teeth chipped but that was cause my friend tried cutting through metal wire and the pocket clip got bent way out from getting in and out of a car on a paper route and not paying attention

  • Nutn would you say that this review covers the Whirlwind as well?

  • Does Kershaw even make the Tone Tanto i can not find it on kershaw's web site but found on Academy Sports and Out Doors web sit for 30 dollars

  • hey nutn, I would like to see you do a review of the kershaw avalanch. Ive had one about 6 months and really like it. Its 3.5 oz I beleive with G10 handle. Im unsure about the steel though. I havent done any thrashing on the blade and I have a small chip on the egde towards the tip though. Thanks from a LEO Sheepdog here.

  • hey nutnfancy i just got this knife a little while back, what are your thoughts on the steel they used in my version, its the 14c28n.

  • wtf this is a ken onion design

  • wtf this is a ken onion design

  • I'd Love to see an avalanche review- It always seemed cool. Nice review! Thanks

  • This is another example of Kershaw upgrading their steel as a model remains in the line. Originally 440A, then 13C26 and now, as of 2009, it's 14C28N. That's quite an upgrade. I don't know why Kershaw doesn't upgrade their descriptions when they do this though.

  • i hate how crkt does the "M16/M18/M21" and many others possibly not to sure.. they skelotenize the zytel scales and leave the metal liners not skelotenized.

  • what kind of knife would be considered a "show stoper"?

  • @canonguys a knife that might be a "show stopper" is possibly the cold steel espada XL.

  • I also have this knife with the partially serrated blade. A gift from my father after I lost my Gerber Paraframe on a camping trip.

It's a great knife! I carry it all the time. The black blade is low-profile. Doesn't catch anyone's eye if you pop it out. Long enough to drop any BG.

I like the serration for cutting cord or whatever. Never sharpen it and suits my needs. Used while camping, hiking, fishing, edc.

  • blur

  • I have a Kershaw Blur it is AMAZINGLY SHARP ... I am scared of that blade ... It took awhile to get used to that assited opening feature im use to my automatics haha .. but its an awesome knife ... AND CHEAP

  • I bought one when it came out and paid $65 for it. It was not worth $20. The blade was not heat treated properly and broke like a piece of glass with light to moderate use. I would not recommend it to anyone. Get a custom handmade knife from a reputable knife maker with a lifetime guarantee.

  • I carry a Kershaw model 1470 which is the Ken Onion design, very inexspensive, right around 50 bucks, great traction, great blade, the only thing is that it is a little on the heavy side other than that it never leaves my pocket whether I am working or running around, always a reliable blade.

  • I went from the blackout to a X2 voyager for my EDC knife. The bigger blade is so much more useful

  • dude dude dude the cod steel voyager x2 is tottaly out of this leuge and it blows the kershaw blackout ....it blows it out of the water but that is only because of the 6 inch blade... if you got the meduim or large the kershaw would be better..

  • I had one back in '05. I EDCed that almost daily, I was in school, couldn't bring it there, but to work and on the weekends doing work I abused it and used and if it hadn't been for my lack of sharpening skills at the time I would have the same edge today. But with proper sharpening technique this knife is amazing. Not enough downsides to turn it away.

  • This is the knife I carry everyday..(and I have a lot of knives)

    Partially serrated blade...

Its light and way fast to open , locks are excellent..Keeps a great edge...

Sometimes I even cut wire with it...

    and the price aint bad.

  • my friend found this knife at a park

  • it was my knife, i lost it there

  • lucky friend...

  • I just bought one for my uncle. I'm in full agreement in regards to the clip. If there was a tip up option I'd buy one for myself.

  • I've got to replace my torsion spring... do you have to take the 'lanyard hole' portion out? If you do... how in the world do you get it out?

  • Did you get the pin out?

  • You don't necessarily need to take the lanyard hole screw out, but it does make it easier. Use a larger flat screw driver to span the distance between the slots on each side.

  • I had this knife with a serrated blade. A GREAT knife. Sadly, I lost it. :-( I am going to buy another, soon!

  • this is pretty much a tactical Whirlwind, but i like the whirlwinds blade shape more. its got the skeletonized blade with a nice clip to the blade.

  • i also bought the blur and i like the feel better because of my larger hands but i broke the tip off of it at work so thats a real bummer.

  • Mr. Fancy

FYI the liners are not stainless.

  • Could someone please explain to me why the clip is on the wrong side? I have almost this same knife, and it works just fine for me... Granted, there was a few day adjustment period where I had to get used to the orientation, but I've realized that it's good placement. I can pull it out and extend the blade in one easy, fluid motion.

  • I really like the deployment sound of this one

  • What would be a good knife for squirrel hunting.

  • An M4 rifle. ROFL

  • a small one.

  • How come there's no review of the Kershaw Avalanche? to me it looks like the best EDC in history and the specs on the Kershaw site confirm this theory, but of course, I'm not bying a knife before a proper review has been posted somewhere, so if you own one of these blades then get a review out there. That goes for you too nutnfancy! ;)

  • i have a review on it on my channel, its the old stock though as in it uses s60v steel instead of the new s30v steel it now uses

  • Thanks for mentioning the Avalanche. I had somehow never seen it but checked it out after reading your comment, read up on it, and placed my order. Thanks again.

  • Sweet, I want that blade! ;D let me know if it''s the real deal... ;P

  • Will do.

  • This knife is a great backup for me when they drop me into the lz with an order to aquire weapons OSP

  • Nice blade and excellent review.

  • What kind of safety does it have?

  • I've owned this knife for a while and have never been dissapointed with it.

  • I just bought this one, hope it holds up as well as other Kershaw models I have.

  • got a whilrwind....basicly the same knife

i dig it, put it through some hard use

    rock on nutn

  • I carry this one in my bunker gear. This thing does it all - seatbelts, wire; I've even used it as a screw driver and a window punch. The tip is bent, but the finish is still good and it opens every time.

  • Have carried this knife on me daily since 2004. After much heavy use its time to buy another one. Needs re-profiling & I have to tighten up the allen key and clip screws every once in a while. But for the work it puts in, I shouldn't complain. My old one is going to my son which will most likely serve him for years to come. Great Knife!!!

  • My uncle gave me this knife. 2007, 2008. Something like that. It's definitely older. The tip ain't real sturdy, though. Broke it like, 3 months after I got it, and not after real tough use. But, 10 bucks, and they'll fix it. No biggie. My biggest complain of this knife, is the Allen Wrench screw keeping the blade there. Pain in the ass to keep tight-ish. Tight enough that it don't wiggle, but loos enough that it slings open when you want it to. Other than that, GREAT knife.

  • The torsion bar is very prone to snapping. They will send you replacements, but its very annoying to replace every few weeks.

  • Every few weeks?! I've carried a Whirlwind for close to three years of fairly regular use and have yet to replace the torsion bar. What the fuck are you using it for?

Don't answer that, Hamster Boy. I don't really want to know.

  • Got myself one, very impressed. Came outta the box sharp. Feels amazing in the hand, light to carry in the pocket. Looks cool to boot ;)

  • i got that knife in 2002

  • thats a different 940 than the one in ur review, which one is that?

  • for a tactical folding knife, should i get this or the kershaw shallot? i would get the shallot but im so sure about the flipper instead of the thumb studs.

  • I own that in 1550 and absolutely love it.

  • @phillipmannrx7 i also have 1550 model

  • i have the same knife as 440 stainless

  • i have this knife it is great

  • i have this knife,im not sure if its 1550 or 1570 i cant remember but it is posibly my favorite edc knife of all time i love it,but rite now snapon is replacing it because i dropped it and unfortunitely the tip broke off, anyways great reveiw keep up tha good work

  • Yeah i used to own one of these and carried it every day but low and behold i lost it. it served me super well with nothing to disappoint except my serrations chipped on me but that was 440a. i replaced it with the blur but havnt got the chance to really test it yet

  • yah like junker said. my dad said kershaw didnt used to be so expensive. some of their knives arent that nice and they are very expensive. some of their nives are wrth it. whats with the prices?

  • whats the difference between a high grind and a low grind? how does it affect performance?

  • im getting one in 13c26

  • The 440A is what has turned me off to a few of the Kershaw models. For the price of some of em you should be able to find better steel like AUS8 etc...Peace bro.

  • Amen bro... 440A sucks. Thanks.

  • Hey man small suggestion, could you go back to some of your older vids and put that great nutnfancy likability scale on it =]?

  • you realize that there are more than 10 types of 440 steel

  • Well I said 440A rather than 440. Learn to read before you try to pick my comment apart. Some of the Kershaw models had 440A(seems to have changed recently) and 440A sucks. Its long been considered a cheap low quality steel.

  • I was not picking any thing apart . Just a comment.

  • @GoDJuNkeR Nutnfancy sorry that i bother you but could you do a stabbing protocol with your Sog Aegis because i really want the knife but i am just not sure if the knife lock and the blade its self is strong enough for that

i hope when you got the time that you would do that (i would appreciate it)

  • I dont know why i have never bought one of these. Admired one years ago a friend had. Just at local Gander Mtn today and was looking at one and a Mini Griptilian. Still love it. Thanks for another great review. Semper fi, Jet

  • great review, but wrong vid, just change the title and description, lol

  • did you post wrong vid

  • wrong video man

  • Roger that, corrected.

  • first one and cool video
