great song. it was a chart hit for linda scott in 1961 also. is'nt it fascinating that in an age of monotone chanting without hamony young people tune in doo wop, and other hamony based music of the 50s and 60s
Funny that this tune is not Dads tune WAIT IT IS GOD DAMMIT changed a bit LOVELY GO TO MY WEB PAGE giacalini@myspace to see what the writer of this tune has done a bit but his kids did alot more secretly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just want to say that I think the Rivieras were were a fantastic group with wonderful harmony and arrangements. Although "Countdown..." was a remake, it is my opinion that their ending to the song is one of the greatest harmony blends of that era. I could just listen to the ending over and over again. God bless them all wherever they may be today.
I cannot beleive controversy has arisen over this song. I can be for anyone who has suffered a loss. I was thinking of my Mom when I searched for the song on Youtube.
Idiot.Shameless.Disgusting.Immoral.Germ. Embarrassing.Would the opinions been different if the story would have been about a straight man who died in a car accident because he was drunk? Or maybe if it were one of your children?Makes me wonder. You have all proved your point. Bravo.
Actually, I am a humbled, forgiven child of God, and if your arrogant, self-righteous, vitriolic name calling is an indicator of things, I think you protesteth too much. No need to respond again, you have made your point clear enough. My apologies to the poster of this song- my intent was to simply share the hope given to me through this song, not have it degenerate into a name calling moral indictment.
It is clear that you have had the great misfortune to have been born both perfect, and uncaring. You do not have ownership of who hears a song, or identifies with it. If you cannot handle different points of view, perhaps it would be better for you to close your account, and continue to hide withing the illusions of your fears and lack of experience.
An amazing song. This song flooded my soul as I buried my first partner. He died of AIDS at a time when there was no hope of survival. I had lost so many friends up to that point, and had no words to say what I felt everyday. This song gave me the words, and eventually the strength, to grieve my losses and move forward. Truly an underrated song, and great group. Thank you for posting this song- it is a gift for all of us.
Love this so much!
For you Nicky, I love and miss you so, so much!

Never quite sure if I like this version or the Ravens version. They're both on my list of great arrangements.
These Jersey boys were the greatest.
