  • does anyone know what edition he is playing from? It seems just a bit different from mine.

  • @johnj1582 He plays the edition edited by Segovia. What you hear that may be the differences you speak of are the variations in phrasing, the tempo, his right hand position, and his musicianship that he brings to the piece, along with his technical mastery.

  • @TheMax161I'm quite familiar with phrasing, tempo, hand position etc. I was specifically referring to the lack of an introduction here. My edition of the score shows a good 2 page introduction. Does the Segovia edition not include that? I've seen a lot of players omitting the introduction, which is, IMO, one of the most beautiful parts of the work.

  • @johnj1582 There are two versions of this piece that Segovia edited. One is 'Introduction, Theme, and Variations' and the second version is just 'Theme and Variations.' Williams did not like the Introduction (he stated as much in an interview on Australian TV), so he never played it. Many other performances of this piece here on YouTube do have the Introduction. So, yes, you are right, it is different. I didn't pick up on what you were saying at first. Find the music at Schott

  • Mágico. Increíble.

  • Brilliant, absolutely brilliant

  • I swear John Williams must have two sets of arms or something with 20 fingers on each hand. This is too godlike

  • i alrdy thumbed up this video b4 even listened to it, cos i know its JW

  • Thanks for posting, this is a great piece by a great guitarist. One nit-pick; this also appeared on a compilation album "Greatest Hits/The Guitar" from 1972.

An interlibrary loan request will usually net a lot of these out-of-print albums (often in tape cassette form)

  • excelente! :D
