You shouldn't believe that one is better than the other. They are just different in some ways, such as tactics, tradition, history, and benefits. They both fight and die in the same wars, so why compare the two?

To everyone who responded to my original comment, you missed my main point. The USMC and U.S. Army have different missions and therefore TRAIN ACCORDINGLY TO FULFILL THAT ROLE. The USMC is a small, highly trained amphibious/rapid deployment force. The U.S. Army is massive and fulfills every land based military role there is wether its conventional conflict or special operations. Soldier's are a large breed that specialize in all aspects of warfare, Marines specialize for "the shit". Oorah/Hooah!

As for regular Marine infantry I would say they surpass a standard 11b, but defiantly not Airborne or Sapper's. The Marines have nothing compared to SFOD-1(Delta force) or Green Berets(Special Forces) as they do not conduct unconventional warfare mission's.

Actually I would compare a standard Marine infantry to Army Rangers. Just look up MEU SOC qualifications. Also, Marine boot camp requirements are comparable to Ranger quals.
@stylz1 no way marine == army inf thats it , the only difference is the USMC boot camp is a few weeks longer , you must remember the standard enlistment is 4 years 13 weeks is nothing in a 4 year enlistment , in those next 3 years define the soldier or marine and shapes them to the role of the unit.......it really comes down to the type of unit you go into etc.

Your marine buddys, go through ranger school and there is a 97% drop out/fail rate for your marine buddys. If it's so easy, go do it? Thought so. Marines aren't first to fight, that is a moto, not a fact, rangers lead the way is a moto as well. I never knew they let HS drop outs join the marines.

If you do not have a high school diploma, you are required to have a G.E.D. with so many college credit hours before you are allowed to join. The Marine Corps is an elite fighting force of warriors as is, you clearly know little about Force Recon.

@vtecdynasty Ranger School teaches you how to lead. The requirements for Force Recon are much more stringent, and some go through schools in different services, like BUD/S or Ranger School. Any one can go to Ranger School if they want. But not many make it to be a Force Recon Marine. Even the regular recon for the 24th MEU are some bad mother f***ers.

The Marines are the first to fight.

@Klifsnider I think the USMC does take overweight people. These people have the opportunity to get in shape in lose weight. If they don't meet the standards by the end of boot camp then their kicked out as opposed to during the medical examination but no overweight person becomes a marine. @sgtshoeman Respect to the Corps, but the answer is no, the marines are not the deadliest fighting force in the world or the US military. and yes the marines have a 13 week long boot camp, but an Army paratrooper goes through 9 weeks BCT, 5 weeks of advanced training, then 3 weeks of airborne training before they even get to they're unit. this video is a testament to the toughness of marine basic training and marines in general (I know some disciplined and tough marines)

Your marine buddys, go through ranger school and there is a 97% drop out/fail rate for your marine buddys. If it's so easy, go do it? Thought so. Marines aren't first to fight, that is a moto, not a fact, rangers lead the way is a moto as well. I never knew they let HS drop outs join the marines.

@ClockworkedRS The Marine Corps will not allow high school drop outs to join. The Marine Corps has high standards when it comes to recruitment and re-enlistment. If you do not have a high school diploma, you are required to have a G.E.D. with so many college credit hours before you are allowed to join. The Marine Corps is an elite fighting force of warriors as is, you clearly know little about Force Recon.

@SSgt24thMEU Rangers, I've worked with those guys when i was in the 82nd, and they make Force Recon look quite soft. But unless I worked with Force Recon also, my comparisons are only subjective. Ranger school is just that, a premier leadership course. SOF Rangers come from the 75th.

@vtecdynasty Ranger School teaches you how to lead. The requirements for Force Recon are much more stringent, and some go through schools in different services, like BUD/S or Ranger School. Any one can go to Ranger School if they want. But not many make it to be a Force Recon Marine. Even the regular recon for the 24th MEU are some bad mother f***ers.

@ClockworkedRS A ranger is'nt going to do shit. Ranger school is easier the Marine Corps boot boot. I just got out of the corps a few years ago. I was 2nd Bn Recon before they deactivated it in 2006, then I switched to 0311. The top 2 elite teams are the SEALs and Force Recon. The Rangers aint shit. Rangers don't lead the way. The Marines are the first to fight.

@sgtshoeman Respect to the Corps, but the answer is no, the marines are not the deadliest fighting force in the world or the US military. and yes the marines have a 13 week long boot camp, but an Army paratrooper goes through 9 weeks BCT, 5 weeks of advanced training, then 3 weeks of airborne training before they even get to they're unit. this video is a testament to the toughness of marine basic training and marines in general (I know some disciplined and tough marines)
