Iverson was an all-state quarterback in High School who later became one of best players in the NBA despite being completely undersized. Prefontaine was a great distance runner. I think I'm going Iverson on the subject of "superior athlete".

That is an interesting opinion. Personally, we think that it is nearly impossible to compare the abilities of athletes across different sports; the best we can do is compare their relative achievements in their sports. With that as a rubric, Pre seemingly has the advantage over Iverson, though Iverson does have one more medal (albeit a bronze) than Pre. The tragedy of Pre's early demise only let's us speculate how good he could have been had he competed in Montreal.
