As for the advert, virgin have done it again, a brilliant advert with a brilliant soundtrack!
They have no right to say that they are the flag carrier of Britain, British airways was appointed the official flag carrier of Britain by the the Government of Great Britain.
The attractive ones are high maintenence and well-paid only a few will be kept on to hand-feed feed grapes, smoked salmon and champagne to the limited number of superior people that can actually afford to fly upper class these days.
Unfortunatly for peasants like myself we'll all be stuck with the crusty old boilers in the back who are willing to work for food because things are starting to sag.

The only thing that comes to mind when i watch this video is Pam An's interpretations of VS flight attedants. "Where are we, what are we doing here". lol
Today, we have V+ and Sky+, which allow viewers to fast-forward through adverts. Therefore, in order to make revenue, advertisers need to make their adverts watchable and Virgin have done that with this.
This is nostalgic, with its references to Our Price and so on but they're thrown into grey relief by the red uniforms. That soundtrack finishes things off and if people don't get it, humour is lacking.
I also thought that the ad was a bit sexist when I first saw this, but once you see past that, you realize how wonderful this ad is. It really shows how Virgin has "brightened up" the dull and gray UK of the 80's. With or without sexism, the flight attendants drive home this message--look at the brilliant red!
Sexism? This was set in the 80s sexism didn't exist back then cos the dinosaurs were still roaming the earth or sommat. Besides if the Captain in this video would have been a woman 1.) i'd judge it as sexism against males and 2.) the first VS flight would have crashed in the atlantic whilst she accidently disengaged the autotrottle whilst putting her lippy back into her bag. It's a fantastic nostalgic commercial and worth loads more than the PC crap British Airways comes out with. Pretty girls sell, get used to it. I think Emirates is content with the 400 awards they have won from excellent service to hygiene etc. Perhaps when Virgin is able to match their performance by a fraction, will your comment begin to make any sense.

Back then we had none of the do gooders or political correctness thats messed the world up today. In those days times were good happy relaxed and yes a pretty woman could sell anything she wanted. But they still do as the sales reps that come to my garage are pretty and female. Perhaps the ladies on it should be replaced with over weight ugly men.
The reason Our Price & Wimpy were shown was at the time it was to share the advertising cost as a new airline they did not have the cash to make the advert on their own and they realy need to bring back that uniform & shoes but bet their feet killed after a 9 hour flight lol, on board they would not be allowed to slag off other airlines not being on time...if you were to compare with today's budget airlines be like Supermodels V's The Clampits on Beverly Hillbillys, I know who I've flown with.
The advert shows a "Brand,Image & Cabin Crew proud to wear the Uniform" and there are 2 males members of Cabin Crew at either side in the 2nd row, I feel the Captain is there to represent the divesity and shows mature people can be sexy when he smiles at the lady trying on the sunglasses, well done Virgin, on a "Par" with the Pam Anne - British Airways video which is on here too just different appraoches to advertising.
I wish the female cabin crew looked as good as that now. Long live the 80's brilliant advert. Hats off to Sir Richard Branson and Virgin . A self made man done good.

On the flight information board, the city codes are OK but airline codes such as shown (PE BN PK and ML)don´t exist. There are no such airlines. But Virgin´s own (VS) is correct, of course.
I'm guessing BN =Braniff. Braniff was a real airline, loved it's appearance in this vid, although I think Braniff didn't fly from the UK in 1984 - partly cos of bankruptcy. It's an in-joke cos of those tacky Braniff commercials.
Famously Banned by the BBC FGTH single Relax and then Radio One DJ Mike Read removed it from the turntables. Fantastic Video. I remember buying my vinyl from Our Price..

You do know that this is a newly filmed advert and not a real one from the 80s? All the shops are mock ups to represent the 80s.
In any case Richard Branson took over Our Price records and turned them into the Virgin Megastores.

Fantastic.....
The advert shows a "Brand,Image & Cabin Crew proud to wear the Uniform" and there are 2 males members of Cabin Crew at either side in the 2nd row, I feel the Captain is there to represent the divesity and shows mature people can be sexy when he smiles at the lady trying on the sunglasses, well done Virgin, on a "Par" with the Pam Anne - British Airways video which is on here too just different appraoches to advertising.

On the flight information board, the city codes are OK but airline codes such as shown (PE BN PK and ML)don´t exist. There are no such airlines. But Virgin´s own (VS) is correct, of course.

I'm guessing BN =Braniff. Braniff was a real airline, loved it's appearance in this vid, although I think Braniff didn't fly from the UK in 1984 - partly cos of bankruptcy. It's an in-joke cos of those tacky Braniff commercials.

The phone is a Mobira Cityman, made by Mobira (later Nokia) in Finland since 1987 so it was not available in 1984
Besides, the analog NMT system was only operational in Scandinavia anyway
