  • Agreed.

As long as some effort is put in by the artist themself/selves, you can't really argue with the finished product. Al-la every song ever written from the dawn of time up to about 1993.

People from this era dressed nicely, didn't sing about filth in such a degrading and upfront manner and perhaps most importantly, they actually combed their hair.

  • Sadly this was recorded the day after Rudy Lewis, the one third from the left in the photo, died. Rudy Lewis was originally supposed to sing the lead to this song. Rudy Lewis is best known as the lead singer to "Up on the Roof", "On Broadway", "Some Kind of Wonderful", & "Please Stay" to name a few. Lewis was found dead in his hotel room on May 20, 1964 at the age of 27. This song was recorded the day after Lewis' death with Johnny Moore singing the lead instead.

  • "Under the boardwalk, with his schlong in Jan's mouth..." BAM!!!

  • did you grow up in the 60's 70's and especially the 80's? or do you just listen to it and be proud? I am not saying lil wayne has to be the guy to tuck you in at night. However, you are fooling yourself if you listened to all those decades of music and thought there wasn't a commom theme.

  • * s.w.c.*

  • When this comes on the oldies station at work, it makes me think of relaxing with my lady on the beach drinking rum and punch. Beautiful song.

  • Sorry to ruin your sexual fantasies kiddies but "having some fun" in 1958 did NOT mean sex, It was a much more innocent time. Gay meant happy, making love meant kissing and cuddling and the world is totally up-side down now days!

  • @RealJeep Ok, so when Jerry Lee Lewis was singing "Whole lot of shakin' going on" he was really talking about ....um...... shaking hands?

And when he sang "Great Balls of Fire" he was singing about ............ um .......?

And when Chuck Berry asked 'Maybellene' why she don't do "those things" she used to do, he was talking about.........um........baking rhubarb pies?

    Yes, all truly innocent times.......

  • @ralphyboy25 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • This song makes me think of the night life on well, the boardwalk.

  • Under the Boardwalk. With a schlong in Jan's mouth Tony Soprano classic

  • lol

  • fantastic drifters love em x

  • i love this song and i live 2 minutes away from the original drifters hiway in Dalzell,SC

  • @Gleriot yeah! I'm 15, not saying age has anything to do with it, but me and my 16 year old friend love listening to this kind of music. His favorite thing to say is to count how many OBSCURE references to sex you can find. And, that's what makes this music better; is that the sexual innuendos are just that, innuendos.

  • this song take me back, to me and best friend in her room listening to this in 1982. them was the days and we appreciated it.

  • love this song man!.

  • under the chair, by down the tree, thats where my dad will be... he drank his ass off to this music

  • right right left left boring but we did it

  • i remeber having to dance to this long ago

  • 2012 version "Under the bord walk Ill be getting stoned, under the bord walk texting off of my phone! Under the bord walk Ill be getting some Brains underther the bord walk This life wont change!!" Lmfao;)

  • Since the first time I heard it, I have always liked this song. I don't understand the last post though....????..Nope. I still don't get it.

  • I am a fetus in the womb and I love this song!

  • Now I can hear where Billy Joel got the opening riff for his song called "Innocent Man" :0 }

  • wunderbare zeiten

    sowas kommt nie wieder, nie

-da beginnt mein arsch zu wippen ;=)

  • The real nigga beats ;)

  • The perfect song for a quick shag.

  • Under the fucking boardwalk!

  • Wow, just wow. The Drifters changed my life in the past week. Two weeks ago, I was a huge psychedelic rock fan. I used to be known for loving The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Jefferson Airplane, but now everybody better get used to me listening to The Drifters, Sly & the Family Stone, The Temptations, The Impressions, and Ike & Tina Turner. Don't get me wrong, I still love the psychedelic rock from the 60's. This is just way BETTER!!!

  • that's the way it was, kids . . .

  • I hear this song all the time on the boardwalk in Wildwood <3

  • awesome song

  • Beeeeeutiful Sound Quality! I'm sharing it.

  • I'm proud to listen to music of the 60s, 70s and 80s. I'd rather listen to stuff like this than repetitive annoying beats with lyrics about sex, hangovers, alcohol and drugs.

  • @Gleriot Except for early 80s, most of the decade sucked too for music - sex, drugs, nudity....total campy music.

    90s was a big improvement.

  • @Gleriot sorry to bust you bubbly, but this song is partially about sex, but i agree with you completely.

  • @Gleriot By 'having some fun' they mean sex

  • @Gleriot Actually some peopel think there are references to weed in both this song and up on the roof... this one also has references to sex, imo

  • @mightilamb Yes, the references were certainly there - just a little more subtle back then. And surely more melodic than a lot of today's claptrap.

  • @Gleriot but.... this is from the '50s

    Dx

  • @Crome267 1964 was in the 50's? Well, now I know.

  • @AndersAndErSjov ya my bad... u_u

i got my facts wrong 3:

  • @Gleriot i listen to various "new generation artist" but i usually listen to the good country like hank williams sr and stuff like that and stuff like this.

  • @Gleriot theres pleanty of music from the 60's with lyrics about sex, hangovers, alcohol and drugs...

  • @GraftonBhoy True but it was done in such away that was just classy....As for the drugs and alcohol well it is what it is ......

  • @Dancewarior40 I wouldn't say it were always done in a classy way, what about Jim Morrison of The Doors? Anything but classy, but pure genius. The difference is that the lyrics about sex drugs etc were put to actual music, produced from someone playing actual instruments.

  • great song! my mom crys when she heres it! well partly because it played up at her wedding and my dad's dead.

  • =) the guys in my school choir sang this song =)

  • This song is a classic-wish we had more songs like that today

  • @curtisjones400 they don't make music like this anymore. Damn shame.

  • When I was a little kid, my parents used to make my brother and I listen the oldies while we rode in the back seat of the car. It was the '80s and, at the time, I didn't understand that when there was so much happening in the music world at the time. As an adult, I now understand why. Those were just better, simpler, classier times and they wanted to instill that in my brother and I. Listening to Under the Boardwalk now gets me little choked up. It's a true classic. Thanks Mom and Dad.

  • @LedWhisky69 Back in those days the music had something called melody and lyrics. Totally unheard of today. Now it's all rhythm and a catchy couple of notes that they play over and over and over until you want to scream," OK , I get it! Now move on!"

  • @LedWhisky69 Thanks for sharing that, it's beautiful.

  • BEACHES!

  • I love thos song so much when I go to sleep at night I listen to my top 20 fave old songs from the 50's-60's but people be telling me I'm to young to know bout it I'm ___ years old.

  • @lovemechanell I'm with you on that one. 13 year old here that's obsessed with oldies and show music.

  • My papa luved this song as i luved him R.I.P papa.

  • This song is an amazing song. It's always been one of my fav songs by the Drifters. No one cares for this type of music except for adults I guess. They used to play it at parties but now it's rarely played at parties. You know what is played now, crap like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Eminem, Bieber, Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Adele, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, and Maroon 5. I mean prefer those people instead of this. Come on. Get with the oldies once in a while.

  • @jazzalex22 yeah, da oldies make u feel a balance when u listen 2 everything. I agree. oldies r still cool.
