People from this era dressed nicely, didn't sing about filth in such a degrading and upfront manner and perhaps most importantly, they actually combed their hair.

Sadly this was recorded the day after Rudy Lewis, the one third from the left in the photo, died. Rudy Lewis was originally supposed to sing the lead to this song. Rudy Lewis is best known as the lead singer to "Up on the Roof", "On Broadway", "Some Kind of Wonderful", & "Please Stay" to name a few. Lewis was found dead in his hotel room on May 20, 1964 at the age of 27. This song was recorded the day after Lewis' death with Johnny Moore singing the lead instead.

Wow, just wow. The Drifters changed my life in the past week. Two weeks ago, I was a huge psychedelic rock fan. I used to be known for loving The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Jefferson Airplane, but now everybody better get used to me listening to The Drifters, Sly & the Family Stone, The Temptations, The Impressions, and Ike & Tina Turner. When I was a little kid, my parents used to make my brother and I listen the oldies while we rode in the back seat of the car. It was the '80s and, at the time, I didn't understand that when there was so much happening in the music world at the time. As an adult, I now understand why. Those were just better, simpler, classier times and they wanted to instill that in my brother and I. Listening to Under the Boardwalk now gets me little choked up. It's a true classic.
