Jimi Hendrix was HIGHLY-influenced by Kirk, and they reportedly jammed together on 3/8/69 @ Ronnie Scott's Club in London, and Jimi recorded ALL of his jams!!! *****(((((10)))))*****
man i wish i had a time machine to go back to the sixties, take some acid, and hang out with rashaan. theres a lot of good music currently but i wish i was of the sixties not the 90s. (sigh) if 6 was 9 . . .
Yeah if 6 was 9 indeed! Jazz is sh** now. There's lots of it about but 99% is sh**. Whether it be endless mediocre piano trios or smooth (ugh!!) jazz or utterly pathetic attempts at the 'noo' avant garde.
When the credit crunch REALLY hits home and the great unwashed tires of the sh**, from as*** celebs and cr** music then we might again get some true innovation and wonderment!!!
Too true brother- that's why I listen mostly to my 52 year old collection of Jazz & Samba sides.... If someone said to me, "let's go to a jazz concert" I'd pass- when you start thinking of the great men from the 60s like WES, MILES, BILL EVANS, RON CARTER, COLTRANE, well that was the golden years- jazz is sh** now and no, we won't live long enough 'cause it cannot return, so go ahead & put on that red vinyl Wes Montgomery Brothers LP and live.
@sitarnut Jazz is not shit now listen to artitst like Scott Hamiton, Mike Denney, Tom Peterson, Dave and Larry Konnse, and Sonny Rollins (who turns 80 this year) is still performing
One of my favorites by him is Hip Chops.

"What about a blues in W, baby? In the key of W. One, two..."
Why were human words ever again spoken after that was said?

@badger500
Sometimes, I feel the same way - and at this very moment, I am devaluating those words even further, haha.

Saw him at the Vanguard in 1973. Still one of the best shows I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of great performers,

When he handed that chick the flute and told her to play in the key of 'w' she should've chucked it at him.
