  • nice, is like sharpmaker but horizontally ! and i can do it home!

  • i had this exact idea, was going to do a vid, but now it has been done, this method takes alot of the human factor out of sharpening

  • @auradud3

Now after several years of sharpening this way I come to conclusion that angle is not major factor here, but having enough room for hands to operate around stone. Simple clay brick would works as well. Angle is useful not because it keep edge angle, but because it provude better observation of edge during sharpening then if it is flat. Keeping right angle is not a big deal really - you learn it in few knives being sharpened.

  • из какого материала эта пластина? From what material this plate?

  • 2 NominalYT

  • 2 NominalYT

    На knifeworks они есть.

  • The simplest solution to a problem yet the best results. Great job!!

  • Such a "basic" idea, but one that has not appeared, until NOW!

This helps (tremendously) to keep the blade at the correct angle. Because keeping the blade 'flat' (90°) is much easier than trying to keep at a 15° or 20° degree angle.

    (Look for hordes of copy-cats!)

    Thanks! 5*****

  • Hi, great idea! This inspires me to make a jig of my own.

However I am wondering if you use a waterstone, would not the slurry run off then? Obviously no/lesser problem with oil (less viscous) or dry DMT. But with my natural combination 2x8 coticule belgian stone I need to use water. What are your thoughts?

  • More I use this - more understand that angle is not what really make it different from generic free hand sharpening. Most important is that you have room for you hands to hold it in correct position. If stone lays on the table your arms are quite limited in the way on holding it. So you may just put it on horizontal base. However slur on waterstone will not run off easy. From other hand CrO will do better job faster - on my experience.

  • Very unconventional method, but that is actually a pretty cool idea.

  • In time I realise that fact that it is tilted is not really big deal. What is really important is that stones are lifted up from table surface which make room for hands to hold knife better...

  • Wow....something else to build for my sharpening box. What else can I say. I see the truth of it. Groovey

  • thank u so very much...i tought if i can get the blade on an angle wood at 30 or waatever degree then sharpen...but the stone at an angle then just keep the blade at a flat angle is a great and simple idea....man this is just wat i was lookin for

  • ur very smart man, im subbing.

  • I just got a Strider Buck Solution in unused condition. I can't imagine how you got the edge on yours so it could split a hair. The edge on mine is about as unrefined as it can be. What stones did you use to get your so sharp? What condition was the edge when you first sharpened your knife?

  • Factory edge usually far from being very sharp and straight and does not have consistent angle. I usually resharpen all new knives. Way to do this very same. In this case best to use is DMT D8XX - extra extra coarse 120 micron diamond stone. It may take quite a time to form proper edge, but otherwise all the same. You may see my other wideo where I ctually starts with D8XX.

  • i tried your idea here and it worked very well for me. I carefully measured and cut a block of wood and made some fasteners that allowed me to attach and unattach different grit DMT diamond stones. Also, I found that if I stand the block up on the short base, I can sharpen simply by holding the knife vertically (with the edge point down). Thanks for the great idea!

  • what kind of knife is that?...looks good and rugged.

  • Buck-Strider "Solution" Model number #888, Ats-34 steel.

  • This is a simple but great idea! I'm definitely giving this a go.

  • I did not make this stand. I ask WoodCraft sales and he cut it for me in no time. They have all tools in their class room.

  • Thanks, Vassili for posting this. You inspired me to tilt my DMT stones too.
