Clearly some people have far too much time on their hands to post anti irish comments to this song ... They must be living off the soft English benefit system ? Shame the English didn't share this wealth whilst the Famine was evident. By the way i am posting this after a 10hour shift . "OUR DAY WILL COME "
I must correct also your stars that the famine hit 'all classes or groups' The English landlords, their families and English soldiers did not go hungry
Prior to the great Famine in 1841 census figures showed that the population was 8.2 million, but more likely 8.5 million. less than 5 million survived. most were simply left to die on the streets, the rest on on the deportation ships. as many as 4 million in fact died, some figures estimate as many as 6 million. A real Holocaust long before the Second World war
@allanc1974 The Meaning Of The Word Famine - Extreme and protracted shortage of food, resulting in widespread hunger and a substantial increase in the death rate. General famines affect all classes or groups in the region of food shortage; class famines affect some classes or groups much more severely than others; regional famines affect only a particular region of a country. Causes may be natural or human. Natural causes include plant disease.

@allanc1974 Yes the potato blight boughtt the famine, but why did the population have to rely on potatoes, because of the english penal laws, land had to be divided up,that was the law.Read some history and learn. Also,no need for bad language, its a sign of ignorance.
Evil England ate well, taking Irish made food to England and starving the Irish intentionally in a genocide that was planed,so they deserve what ever comes from Arabs blowing up buses to any damage the r.i.r.a./c.i.r.a./oglaich na Eireann. can cause. They reap what they sow. They murderd our forefathers in a cruel way.Great song friend.
@sjhannigan1 . Bollocks. That same country opened the doors in hour of need as Liverpool, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, London and many many places in England will display. My ancestors came from Ireland to Middlesbrough as the town became a booming place during the industrial revolution. Ireland gave me my family and England has giving me a home.
The City of Liverpool has got the biggest Catholic population in England and Middlesbrough has got the biggest Catholic population for a town.

The Great Irish Famine Lasted From 1844 - 1850,
Six Years Of The Great Hunger.
Which Affected Not Only Catholics But Also Protestants,
These Both Groups Of Irish Folk Died Because Of The Famine.
