  • i have tried all things possible and it just seems like i am helpless with trying to succeed at trying to tame her she is not use to human contact so if you could please have any suggestions it would be great thanks

  • hey um i had my bird for just about a year now and he is very jumpy still. I got him from my friend and he lived with other birds before and i dont know if thats it. Also, I was considering getting another bird since he is all alone during the week when I go to school, and my parents go to work. Do you think its a good idea? I really hope you can reply cause i really need this advice.

  • @j0eytodamaxx

I find working with a bird every day will help with the jumpiness. As far as another bird, yes that's great since nobody is home for most of the day. Budgies are very social, and it's best to have two unless you can almost constantly be there for one.

  • @BudgieWorld ahhh thanks! I cant believe u actually replied! thanks so much im heading to a breeder tommorow to check some out! :D Also while i got u here, what do i need to breed parakeets? I think a nesting box right?

  • @j0eytodamaxx

I actually wouldn't reccomend breeding, if that's what your thinking, unless you do almost years of research and have lots of funds, I mean hundreds of dollars. It really is an expensive and risky process. :)

  • @BudgieWorld ahh i see exactly what you mean. Thanks so much for your help! :D

  • please help!!!! when my budgies tail hits anything she suddenly get very scared and flys back into the cage how do i get her used to her tail hitting things. HELP PLEASE!

  • @b1rdl0v3r

Do you know of anything that has happened to her that may make her scared of things touching her tail?

  • Ok well im back but so if I do get my budgie to start stepping up like how u did it on ur current step up video, how do I know when I can take it out of the cage? Without it flying off

  • @Live0n1

It's probably always going to fly off eventually, that's just what birds do. But you can take him/her out whenever you feel your both ready. It helps to have them tamed a little bit at least, because then it's easier to get your bird back in.

  • i have had my female budgie for a about 2 years now and allow her to come in and out her cage at free will but when i try to make contact with her she flies away and i am seeking any kind of help as far as how to hand tame her to be able to feed her by hand and handle her i am open to any suggestions thanks

  • @DA1NONLYBUSKIboo

Have you tried using some millet?

  • ooh ok ! (:

  • You use to use that cage for bothe of ur birds? i thoughte u said those small cages are bad?

  • @SmallPetLoverForever

This cage is too small for any bird long term. I used this for Elvis for quarantine, then put him in with Pete in the flight cage. I use this is a travel cage, and that's it. :)

  • i have 2 budgies and cant tame them and if i put my hand in the cage tey fly and go crazy and tey do not eat veg ar egg and if i get them out ofthe cag they just perch on somthing high and i hade them for 3 months so can you plz post a video about what i can to tame them

  • @786budgies

This video doesn't seem to be working for everyone, so I'll be posting a new one that goes more in depth as soon as I can. :)

  • Washroom? ;D Nice Vid btw

  • That looks like my bird

  • @Gregorymallard98 not only yours my also

  • @budgieworld by outside i meant out of its cage now i have had him for bout 1 month and he will still fly of my finger and i also got a new budgie today and got her to step up but she will fly of my finger

  • @BudgieBamBand

I've never seen that video, but I think I have seen the cage and I don't think its big enough for two budgies. It should be at least 30x18x18 inches. Anyway, teaching them to step up will probably help get them out of the cage. I have a video on it if you want to check it out. :)

  • @BudgieBamBand

Yes, step up is a command used to have them step onto your finger. How large is their cage?

  • @BudgieBamBand

Have you taught them how to step up? It sounds like you may need to work on getting them used to your hand, then having them step up. Try letting them know that your hand is not a threat by entering it in the cage and just leaving it there for a while. Also try feeding them millet or other treats from your hand.

  • @BudgieBamBand

They actually sound pretty tame to me. An untamed bird won't willingly hop onto a human hand. What exactly would you like to achieve with them? In other words, do you want to teach them to step up, etc? Because they actually sound fairly tame.

  • @BudgieBamBand

Have you tried using some millet and having them eat it out of your hand? Just very slowly enter it into the cage. You can take out their food (not water) for about an hour, they won't starve, and then put your hand with the millet in. Sometimes it helps when you take the food out because they will be more tempted to eat the millet, but make sure to not take it out for more than an hour. Let me know if this works, again, every method won't work for every bird. :)

  • @BudgieBamBand

No offense taken, not one method is going to work for every single bird. What I would reccomend is to separate them. I realize this ins't possible for everyone, as you probably need an extra cage and another bird proofed room. If you aren't able to do this, let me know and I can suggest something else. If you are, then take one to a different room and just work with them from there. It seems to help if they aren't together sometimes.

  • @BudgieBamBand

How long have you had them? What have you done so far tame them?

  • Comment removed

  • I recently got a budgie at 5 weeks he is now 6 weeks!! The first few days he had no problem jumping on the finger and feeding from my hand" ! Now he just flys around his cage when I slowley put my finger to his belly. And if he does hop onto my finger he will fly off not quickly later!!! Can you please help and what should I do??

  • @MarlzyE

Have you tried using millet? It really does work miracles when taming! :)

If so, let me know and I'll try my best to help. :)

  • Sorry for my comment, I cut half of it out

  • and recently he has started to fly around his cage like mad when I put my finger slowly to his belly . He will hop up sometimes for a couple of seconds then fly away!! Do you know what this is?? And can you

  • i have 2 budgies 1 male and 1 female the female is quite aggressive and doesnt really like me trying to get her to sit on my finger and the male is kinda tame but everytime i try take him out the game he just jumps back in iv had them for 2 years now and i really want them to come out get used to me alot there in my room and with me for quite awhile when i get back from school i let them out of there cage but they just dont like going near me /or anyone.

  • @zaryab75

Try using millet, it's so great for taming. Try separating them and working with each of them. Sometimes it's harder to tame both at the same time. :) I tell so many people this, but it really does make the process easier.

  • I had 1 for 2 years and 1 for couple months i got 1 from petsmart and the other one at petco and yes i tried handfeeding

  • @DragonFlame8228

Try separating them and bonding/taming with each separately.

  • I need help I have 2 budgies. 1 is really aggessive and 1 is really nervous i dont know what to do!!!!!

  • @DragonFlame8228

How long have you had them? Have you done anything as far as taming? Where did you get them from?

  • I just got a parakeet today, and she already lets me stroke her!

Should I give her more time to adjust before trying anything more? Or should I keep on trying slowly?

  • @xBirdwingsx

I would just talk to her for a few days and spend time by her cage, then start taming. :)

  • @BudgieWorld

Too late... I didn't see your advice till today... lol :)

She's already very hand trained and since yesterday, shoulder trained. (Only with me though.)

Today we clipped her wings, and she's much better with them clipped. It was too much trouble with her flying all over the place. (We had to re-trim them as the pet smart lady didn't clip enough.)

    Thanks for replying though!

  • @BudgieWorld

Oh, and do you happen to know anything about getting another parakeet?

My family is thinking of getting another.

Will the first one not bond with me as much if we have a second?

  • @xBirdwingsx

If you take lots of time to tame her and build a bond with her before getting the new bird, it will be fine. I was worried about that too, but when you quarantine the new bird (check out my video on it) it also gives you time to bond with that bird and in the end they both ended up bonding to each other and me.

  • One

  • hey ummm ive had my budgie for bout 3 or 4 days and he already climbs on my finger and comes out of his cage fine but he always starts to fly around the room he wont stay on my finger so i cant take him outside or anything please help

  • @cenarsful

What do you mean by outside?...you can't take a budgie outside unless it's in a cage. If you clarify what you mean by outside then I can help a little more. ;)

  • I don't feed my budgies with my hands at first, if don't have a food stick put the seeds on a tea spoon and keep the spoon in the cage, the budgie will probally take only one bite at first, but keep it in for at least 30 mins

  • this is great info!!! i will use this! thnx so much for making this! THUMBS UP

  • my budgie is climbing on my hand but dont wanna come out of its cage what do i do it always loose attention to the other budgie what do i do

  • @darkjak512

Either try using some millet, or work with one budgie at a time by taking it into a different (bird proofed) room. :)

  • my budgie won't come out from his cage. hvat should i do?

  • @dironika

Have you tried using some millet to lure him out? :)

  • I can't tame my budgie! Every time I try to step it up with it a stick, it would bite it, so I'm guessing it would bite my hand. I also do it slow so the budgie could see. What do I do? :(

  • @whatdaheoo

It may be scared of the stick. What I would try doing first is getting him/her to eat out of your hand so they can realize you are safe. Millet is your best friend when training. :)

  • 2 people have been eaten by ur budgie

  • are your birds wing clipped?

  • @Generatorex001

    Nope. :)

  • @BudgieWorld I got a bird that the color of the head is yellow green and the body is green it is kinda small samller than yours but their pairs does the taming process take too long??

  • @Generatorex001

It honestly depends on the birds and how much time your willing to take to tame them.

It can take from days to weeks to months sometimes. Just be patient and work with them a lot.

  • @BudgieWorld If my birds wings are clipped will the taming process take a lot shorter?? because even if i clip their wings they still run from me and sometimes climb on the bars

  • @Generatorex001

The only thing clipping their wings wings will do is make them less mobile. Their going to run from you no matter what at first. It's really up to you. My birds came with their wings clipped, but I never had a problem with them trying to fly away anyway.

  • @BudgieWorld When my birds wing is clipped then i can let then loose in my room?

  • lol bathroom!

  • Nice video :]

  • 2 people are cats...

  • I got a 3 year old parakeet from a co-worker. She rehomed him-her new kittens were just giving the bird a hard time. This little guy was in an awful cage. HAD to put him in a new one right away and it really scared him to be handled. I had to use a glove. He has been here about 3 days and remains very still. Not eating/drinking much. I have hime right beside me while on my computer each day. I have been talking to him. I also play some bird sounds from the computer--seems to like it.

  • @brownsa9577

That's great that you helped him! Just keep in mind he may be eating/drinking, just not in front of you. :)

  • I taught my budgie not to bite.

He'll move to bite you, but he'll only grab you he wont dig in.

But he hates being out of his cage, and he doesn't talk even though i've been teaching him for years.

Hes a strange one, but he loves to snuggle up and sleep.

  • Did Anyone Else Notice They were in the bathroom?!Haha:)

  • did u get him from a pet store or a breeder? can he/she talk? what do u recommend?

  • @KostasTheGhost

Both of my birds are from the pet store. Personally, I don't see it as such a bad thing to get from a pet store, as those birds need homes too and didn't chose to be there. I reccomend getting a bird from a rescue if you have the time to tame it. Getting from a reputable breeder will sometimes get you a healthier bird, and sometimes more tame if they have been handfed and handled. It's really up to you, and no, my birds don't talk because I haven't spent the time to teach them.

  • oh my god he is so quiet so cool

  • how do you get your bird off your finger once hes there? Once I get my birds on my finger or arm they refuse to get off of me lol.

  • @whisperofpain

Try using some millet to get them off. :)

  • Please reply too my other two comments as soon as possible! :) thanks.

  • Also, when I put my hand in it starts going wild and flying flapping its wings crazy and bumping into the cage or whatever but will it eventually soothin down and start to be calm? So I can put the stick in to perch it on slowly?

  • @HockeyMr

I don't see another comment? But I'll try to help as much as I can with this one. Try putting your hand in very slowly. Don't put it all in at once, put just enter a little bit of your hand at a time. Go very slow and don't make any sudden movements or get too close at first. Then yes, you can very slowly put the stick in. I would actually first reccomend getting the bird used to your hand by offering it some millet on your hand first, like in the video, if you haven't already.

  • @BudgieWorld I have a question which is when I am to let my budgie out (its a female all white small and cute) and if it gets out and flies around or gets loose how do I get it back in the cage? Because if I turn out the lights it will start to fly around like wtf is going on ahhhh and freak out so would it eventually just go into the cage itself or what can I do? I also have had it for 48 hours now so when do you think I sha'll start the taming process? (Today is tuesday) so when do you think?

  • @HockeyMr

Take a few days just to talk to it and let it know your safe. Then start the taming process. And as for how long it will take, I have no idea. Each bird is different. My birds each took only about a week, I know people who have birds that took a month or two to tame. Just take it slow, and be patient. It will pay off. :)

  • @HockeyMr i dont think u play wit it on the first day

  • @BudgieWorld When should it be fully tamed? ive had it for 2 days started taming and taking it out putting it on the stick petting it today so when do you think?

  • Comment removed

  • ur in the bathroom??

  • My budgie is been wit mi fo a year but still hates me help me

  • @TheDarkd3ath

Have you taken the proper steps for taming? No, your budgie doesn't hate you, you just probably haven't taken the correct steps or enough time. What have you done so far to tame him/her?

  • my budgie is ok with eating out of my hand and sort of ok with sitting on my finger while in the cage but she will not come out of her cage, i tried a bunch of different methods for taking her out and nothing works, she always jumps back in her cage!! >:( and if she does come out, it's because she flies out trying to get away from me, then if i get her on my finger outside her cage she'll sit there for a second and fly off away from me again... :( also, i've had her for over a week....

  • @MovieNature65

A week is not long at all. :)

For how tame she sounds, you seem to be doing a really good job. Have you tried to set millet on top of the cage. And maybe get her out with some millet then just close the door for a bit so she can't go back in. I wouldn't leave it closed for more than an hour if she seems to want back in, because she needs to be able to get food and water.

  • @BudgieWorld thanks for the advice, it's working! my budgie got on my finger and i was able to get her on top of her cage! i'm still working on getting her away from the cage. it's going ok so far... :)

  • Uhm, as you said, "You can let your cage door open and they'll fly" will they come back to the cage, please respond back because I want to let me birds out. Thanks

  • @roconyo

Some birds will, some won't. What I reccomend if you have troubles getting them back in is to set some millet on top of the cage, they should come over. Then just have them step up or if their not tame just set the millet inside the cage. If your having a lot of trouble, turn off the lights and VERY gently get them with a towel. Don't squeeze them, as they are very fragile. If your bird is really untame, then maybe just wait until you tame them to let them out. :) It's all up to you.

  • @roconyo

Also, I forgot to add in my other comment, you need to make sure the room is bird proofed. This means there is nothing that could possibly hurt them or that's dangerous for them. For example, I've taken all the plants out of my room and covered up spaces that they could chew paint off of. Just be patient, it will pay off in the end. Message me if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help. :)

  • and why are you in a bathroom?

  • @logan45919

Haha when I first got him I had to quarantine him, which is keeping him seperate from my other bird for a minimum of 30 days to make sure he has no illness. This was the only place he could be that was far enough away from my other bird...

  • mine is so untame, that he cant be out of his cage like that, he would just be flying around and going wild. Why? Help me.

  • @logan45919 how old is he? when did u get him? keep him in his cage and slowly target train him. Get a clicker a chopstick and millet spray, then from the outside of the cage keep making him just lightly nibble on the chopstick for about a second, click and then give him the millet spray - this will gain your birds trust and clicker condition him for taking him out of the cage and getting onto a perch check 'kiliparrot' out for more videos micheal is a pro with birds he has a taming video.

  • @logan45919

First of all, I always wonder, how long have you had him? Take the taming process slow, and be patient. You can also do it from inside the cage. Just talk to him first for a few days and let him know your not a threat. Then slowly start entering your hand in the cage and just sitting it there without touching him. You can then sit it in his cage with some millet. Just take your time, it will pay off. Let me know if you have any other questions and feel free to send me a message. :)

  • @lkingy1

Nope, neither of their wings are clipped.

  • Comment removed

  • Great!!! Though could you make a video with an untamed budgie and do it in steps. Thanks

  • i have a question i have 2 birds and one is way more use to me then the other one and its so hard to tame them because if i make any progress like get my finger infront of the "tamer" one and hes like its weird but in not scared but the other bird is in the way corner going :O omg hes going to kill us all. then flies freaked out and the other freaks out as well do i seperate them or work with both at once also i have had them for a year and now that i have time im trying to tame them

  • @itachifan275

I would separate them for the taming process if I was you. It will be much easier to just tame one bird at a time and gain their trust. You can also try taming them both at once and start over with the methods I used but it may be harder.

  • @BudgieWorld yeah but a person i know said if i separate them it may make then scared and they will not trust me or atleast it will take longer because they will freak out when they are alone when they have been together for a year. so do you think that will happen

  • @itachifan275

It may make them be scared for a while, but it's going to be much easier for taming. If you separate them and find that you are having a lot of trouble taming them separately and that they are very scared then you can put them back together if you feel the need. What I would suggest that you try it first. If you feel that they need to be together or are too stressed out then I can give you some other advice. Also, wait a few days after separating them to start taming each of them.

  • do you have any good names for a parrot i need help choosing a name before i buy one

  • man, a miracle ! do you only hve 2 birds ? hopefully......... Because i have 2 birds and 1 is exactly same as this. And the other is exactly same as your yellow in your video ''Teaching a budgie to step up'.

  • about 1 or 2 weeks and I am trying to teach it step up and its not afraid of my hands when its in the cage and I am scared of putting my finger under its belly because it bit me once when I did it

  • @superjenny1231

Use a perch first. Put the perch under its belly and gently push a little. Say up when you do this. Your bird should step up. If not, try hand feeding it first with some millet and it should get used to you more.

  • how did u take your bird out

  • don't put millet spray as part of their daily food unless they're flying around a LOT

    it's really high in fat

  • sry 4 d rude cumnt...btw do u knw how to break a cage bar

  • Hello thanks for your informative parakeet videos I am thinking of buying 2 just want to do alot of research before. Where do you buy your birds at? Also how much were they. Thankyou.
