  • Hey there are 5 screws that are different sizes? 3 if them are larger screws. One is a long narrow screw and one slightly larger then the small screws. Where do they go as i didn't mark the location like an idiot lol.

  • Can i change the gpu? Which type is it? MXM 3?

  • I love my

  • I should also say that when I opened the laptop back when the fan still sort of worked, I could manually spin the fan blades and they moved pretty easily. Now that it doesn't work, when I try to manually spin the blades, they do spin, but nowhere near as easily as they did before. It's as if something is in there binding it up or something yet it looks perfectly clean.

  • What I want to know is, how the hell do I get at the fan to try and see what's wrong with it? It seems to be attached in there firmly in some way that I can't figure out. About an hour ago, I had the laptop in pieces, with the keyboard pulled out and screws lying everywhere but I still couldn't get at the fan to even see what's wrong. The plug where it attaches to the motherboard seems fine, too. I don't want to spend $80 to send it in and have it fixed.

  • I've had mine for almost two years now but several month ago, my fan died. For a few days it started making a ton of noise and it sounded like it was struggling to keep spinning. Then it finally just stopped completely. Every so often on rare occasions it kicks back on briefly. To get by, I took a fan from an old desktop computer I had and connected the wires to a spare usb cable I had. The fan is external, obviously, but I aim it at the air vent. This seems to work fine most of the time.

  • DO NOT REMOVE THE PLASTIC THAT IS COVERING THE SO CALLED FAN VENT. It is there to restrict the fan from pulling all the air from just that one spot. It allows air to be pulled from all the vents (hard drive, TV tuner if you have it, RAM, etc...) on the bottom of the laptop including the one above the fan that is covered. As I said, it just restrict it from pulling all the air from just one spot so all the devices can be vented.

  • After opening the laptop n cleaning the heatsink i notice theres a vibration coming from the fan. I cant quite find a lock or a screw attatching it, just that ducktape asus put in there.

Any suggestions? d b more than helpful

  • @Merda2U Actually nothing in this laptop is cooled directly by the fan. It is cooled through the heatsinks which are cooled by the fan. By taking off that cover the only thing that wont be cooled is the ram which is a non issue. Either way you won't accomplish anything by taking off the black plastic cover anyway because there is plastic in the way after that.

  • i have this computer..its the shit :D...but i have a question.. how do you take off the fan cover? i tried to clean out the dust and i couldnt figure out how to take it off..i didnt wanna mess anything up...and any ideas for me to clean out my laptop?..i am kinda new to opening computers up so any help at all will be very good :D

  • How exactly would you install a second hard drive? And how much would another one cost?????????

  • @fm2h3 Take the back cover off and you will see the second drive bay (its shown in this video) and put a new hard drive in the bay. There is no hard drive caddy included so you will either have to buy one or do what I did and make your own. A 320GB 7200 Rpm drive will cost about 100 bucks.

  • Nice

  • Just reminding new viewers again.... DON"T REMOVE THE BLACK COVERING FROM THE INSIDE OF THE FAN VENT. IT WILL FUCK UP YOUR COMP.

  • now you say, and i quote, "...and i would remove this..."

but you yourself don't have it removed....

please dont tell people to remove things that laptop manufacturers put inside their laptops for a reason. My guess is that if that huge air vent was open, it would lower the pressure of the air comming in, and maybe even stop sucking in air from the other vents centered around the vital parts of the laptops such as the hdd and processor. DONT REMOVE IT

  • I dont know what I did to turn my touchpad off but i got it working again but the light is still off please help how do i turn it back on please.

  • Hi, do you win to remove the black backplate for a best aircooling ? I just received my G50v and i wanna know if it's a good idea to remove it. Thx.

  • what form factor is that hard drive? can you replace it with a ssd if you wanted to?

  • Yes, you can, but SDD HDD are more expensive and less capacity

  • i mean SSD not SDD

  • Can you replace the gpu/cpu on this thing? Just wondering, thanks :D.

  • no couse the cpu is litrally welded to the laptop i think is the same on all laptops

  • you can replace the cpu its not welded in. i replace it from a 2.26 to the 2.8 T9600 but the best one is the P9500

  • is there a port to put your penis in to when you watch Pr0n?

  • hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahaah

  • the coverd up the airvent so the pressure is right and it forces air out the main exuagst DO NOT REMOVER THE BLACK COVER IT WILL DAMAGE UR CPU AND GRAPHICS CARD DUE TO HOT AIR RUSHING PAST !!!

  • Thank you, I'm so glad someone has said NOT to remove the black component over the vent.

Asus didn't just put a large component in there for no reason.

  • I found more pictures about G50v on google, it seems G50v's graphic card is MXM. Good news!

  • hey, nice video.

i have a question, is the graphic card (the one up by the fan) stick into a slot (the white thing to the right)?

  • in laptops the vodeo cards arent "cards there chips like processor.

  • the graphics card is just right above the fan

the fan is just where the copper tubes come and where hot air gets pushed out

  • The heat sink...

  • @axerlzx You shouldn't try and replace it if thats what your thinking. Sure it may work but the added heat is not what this laptop's cooling system was designed to handle.

  • my lil bro got this for his birthday....and he is 11 years old!!!

  • who fuckin cares about your bro's aqe ??

  • someones alittle cranky........

  • sorry

  • its ok

  • i noticed there are 3 spots the copper cooling pipe is connected to the motherboard. 1st is for CPU, 2nd is for GPU, and my guess for the 3rd is the notrhbridge? might be wrong

  • what is raid?

    can i use a 2.5 Sata HDD?

  • There are several types of Raid, but generally speaking it's used to create perfect copies of HDD's so that if one fails you still have a useable HDD.

  • I would not recommend opening up that vent. The cover seems to force air to come over the other open vents (over the ram and above the GPU - looks like the north or south bridge). If you open the vent, the air just comes in through the vent, and no air will flow over the ram or other areas. This would be bad... Good for the GPU, but bad for the other components.

  • yah when the laptop was in early design phase the hole was supposed to be oppen but they noticed that the ram and the hdd and all the other components were not cooled so they covered it up and added the holes over the hdd ram etc.. and then it cooled better

  • no bro

    it is helpfull

make as many vids as you want man, i might wana get this.

  • i think they put it so that there is no dust inside your computer but then why would they freaking but an air vent if they were to cover it up.?!!!??

Dude u should buy that filter stuff for the air conditioner cut a very very skinny strip and cover the airvent this will let air flow go back and forth and also capture the dust and all you have to do is take it and wash it and when it dries out it back thats what i did for my desktop gunna do it for my laptop now

  • Sounds like a good idea. Do you have any videos ?

  • i have videos yes but not about applying the filters its really easy all you do i put the filter thats all

  • Should you show us the temperture difference with the air vent opened and closed

  • hey can you show us the work you did on the plastic cover itself and if you feel it made a diffrence

  • nice vid, you make an excellent point, why would they put plastic over the air intake LOL you should contact them and ask so you can answer this question.

  • I also only have one HD, but now I know that u just can buy another one, sweet! I wonder were the Graphic is? and if u can replace it.

  • yeh u can replace the card in it but the graphics card in it is fucking amazing why would u ?

  • Yes it's a very nice graphic card but soon it will be old tho.

  • So thats the plastics that is covering the air vent. Is it easy to remove. Great video btw

  • its not so easy to remove because its like super glued down so it takes a while to remove it
