Currently having the same debate with my CM125 clone. I reckon I'll stay soft tail though, as I want to be looking forward to riding, not dreading it.
go soft, but stretch the swing arm out a good 4-5 inches and get some new shocks to accomodate the stretch, leather solo seat, drop the handle bars and get some clip-ons and lower the front... it will have a nice cafe/bobber look and still be a comfortable ride
I would stick with a suspension, especially if you plan on commuting. Also, not sure if you are set on a bobber or if you'd consider doing a cafe instead. Maybe raise the rear a bit, and it'll let you sit a little more comfortably and reduce the rake to make it a bit nimbler around town. I have a 1982 CM 250 as well, and I think that's what I will be doing. Good work and keep the vids coming!
If you're buildin' it to look at, go hardtail. If you intend to ride any at all, you want some suspension back there. Nice boat in the background. Keep at it !
Check my bobber out, low cost, made the seat out of a beer keg..... removed the shocks and welded reo bars.... ( :
