I really like these videos by Steve Mcvey. However, I would really appreciate it if he used more scripture to explain these biblical truths and concepts!
We need to embrace all the one-anothers of the Bible as we relate to each other in the body of Christ. This includes the mutual and repeated confession of sin (James 5:16). This also includes exhortation and stirring up one another to love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24-25). Isn't this what helpful accountability entails?
Praise the Lord! This video is so on point! For this very reason I left a church I had attended for 3 years. They insisted that I enter an accountability relationship with someone whom they would choose for me! I was labeled as strong willed, and this person was supposed to be good with "strong willed people. Wow ! insist on this relationship, and to top it off you choose whom I'm transparent with. Thanks but no thanks!
Hi Steve, told a friend about this one but he showed me the scripture that says 'confess your sins to each other and you will be healed..' or something like that. I don't remember the exact verse or scripture but think you know this one. So what do you think?
Once again, I was tired, and didn't think before I responded. Though trust me, I don't parrot back what other people say ever. I am very firm in the beliefs I have discovered for myself in God's word. Probably to firm, which is why I got fired up last night watchin these videos (I WAS TIRED) I got fired up from the second I saw the titles, thinkin it was someone tryin to pick a fight with the church.
I understand that the Church tries to be honest, but from what I've seen, any Church can be honest and sincere, but still wrong.
This is exactly what I've felt since I first heard of "Accountability Partner" in 1992. I thought, "why do I need to go to someone and tell them everything, when God already knows? Isn't my Christian relationship with God? Then why am I relying on men?"
But the Church kept saying I had to do this, or I was doomed to fall. The Church is VERY legalistic.
Frankly if you think that is what an accountablilty partner is I don't think you understand what it really means, and I would jump as far as to say you don't understand Christ centered relationships at all
"Jump" is the right word, that's for sure. And I would say based on your numerous responses to my videos that you simply parrot what you've heard others say, without thinking about it.
Well, there is a difference between "must" and "should". Your right, we don't "Need" and accountability partner, but it's smart and wise to have a partner there to help you out.
But your right, you don't "NEED" one. Jesus should be your partner.
I've been in men's accountability groups in the past where, in hindsight, we just learned to manage our sin struggles. We learned to reinforce our flesh (self-sufficiency). Managing sin and being set free are two different things. I know the difference now.
Thank you for clearly stating the truth! Anytime a people or a church practice legalism it is because they do not see an ADEQUATE SAVIOR! And an adequate Holy Spirit.

"An accountability partner is no better than your willingness to be honest with the person you're talking to." Very true. That makes a good quote.
