Bird droppings(guano(sp)) is also "mined" in places where there are very high concentrations of birds. Its a major source of phosphorus fertilizer for fields/agriculture.

Lets not forget the passenger pigeon, use to travel in flocks so large it could take them hours to pass and be so thick they block some of the sun. Now its all but extinct.
