  • His eyes are so cool

  • .....there are icelandic words in their song and words that are made up, i'm icelandic so i know

  • 4:15 "it felt like a good thing to do." <3

  • What is the song that is being played @ 1:00?

  • @rimdog379 It is called "Hijomalind" and it is on the Hvarf side of the Hvarf-Heim disc set :)

  • Ah. There is so much more to Jonsi than meets the eye. He's a flippin genius. I'm absolutely in love with his music.

  • "No, we never talk. It's not good to talk. We just play."

  • Heima mean Home not Homeland.

And he is singing in Icelandic, but the lyrics don't really mean anything (some, that is) just random words. But it is Icelandic and this random pattern of Icelandic words is called Hopelantic.

  • @steinarey Hopelandic or 'Vonlenska' is gibberish- the noises and made up words you make when you're thinking of a vocal melody. It's the most awesome concept hey, only Sigur Ros could get away with it.

  • @growupmate I know some of the words are made up, but there are lyrics to basically all of the songs. In the interview she implies that there are no lyrics... ever. When we both know it's Icelandic in the most songs. Hoppípolla: Brosandi

Hendumst í hringi Höldumst í hendur Allur heimurinn óskýr Nema þú stendur.

But your definitively right about the fact that Sigur Rós is one of few bands that can pull it off, not singing words :)

  • @steinarey All of the songs on "()" is in "hopelandic", and about half the songs on the albums after "()", are in "hopelandic" aswell. so it's quite a bit

  • First of all... Heima means "Home" not homeland and they sing ALL their songs in Icelandic. If they didn't... how come I can understand the lyrics?

  • @steinarey wtf? i thought the lyrics were all made up

  • @apocatie34 Some songs are made up, some are in Icelandic. All of the () album is madde up.

  • they are extremely strange.

  • need to go here & probably not come back if i can get my partner over there

  • hopelandic

  • she said he has a made up language? is she calling icelandic a made up language?

  • @Aaalxndr most of their songs are not in icelandic , just the ones from their first records , and the rest of the songs aren't in a real language , just a made up thing hehe

  • @Aaalxndr No. She just doesn't understand that he is using his voice has an instrument.

  • Jonsi is so adorable and shy, a real guy who lets his music speak, and what a voice he has.

  • I never noticed how Jonsi's blind eye doesn't move in unison with his left eye, it's always shooting off in some other direction. It's pretty funny, yet pretty cool at the same time.

  • @FriedGold8942 Oh yeah, I completely forgot he was blind in one eye.

  • the name of the song in the beggining is "Hljomalind" :D

  • Whats that song at the begining?

  • love them quite much.

  • haha tell me about it ... thom yorke!! all the best got em lol this band is absolutly beautiful though.

  • i think the key to musical genius is having 1 botchy eye

  • thom yorke, haha

  • Gitardjamm is my absolute favourite

  • it great to know more about them.and he really talented in music.love it.thanks.

  • Wonderful. I always wanted to know about them. thank you.

  • boring

  • asshole

  • I can't express HOW MUCH I long to visit Iceland...

  • what the hell happened to his right eye?

  • he's blind in the right eye

  • Born blind in one eye.

  • I think his eye problem makes him a better musician, like thom yorke. i love both of them

  • Does anyone know the original link/video?

I'd like to cite some parts of the interviews in my research paper on Minimalist Music and the Influence it had on popular music with a focus on Sigur Ros....

    Thanks guys =]

  • He called it bullshit again, haha, like in the Sigur Ros bryant Park interview. I love jonsi

  • They. Are. Genius.

What is that last song they're playing?

  • lol Heima doesn't mean homelands.

    It just means home.

  • i dream of living in Iceland

  • what are the songs at 0:28 and 2:36

  • Hijomalind and Olsen Olsen

  • No, the one at 2:36 is actually Hoppipolla

  • i think they're just a bunch of geniuses(:

  • Yes! They are.

  • lol its so funny how he always says the words are bullshit

  • OMG, what?? hehe. Can you give me the name of the program u are using? I want to be able to learn something. I made here a friend from Iceland, maybe she can help us correct our language, spelling and so on. What you think? we give it a try? what you say?

  • Try Eurotalk now...my husband is Icelandic..I used it..its really good. Order it online.

  • Thank you zippy!! I will let you know how I am doing. Does he talk old and modern icelandic?

  • Thank you very much for the info, very helpful btw. I think I would choose modern icelandic since i think is the most common one to speak. Now, for the sake of bragging, i also want to know old icelandic, lol. I AM one junkie of Sigur Ros music, my cousin told me about Pandora, and maaaan, it is a trip, love it. Are you practicing icelandic with those books and pdf's?? let me know, please!

  • OMG!! thanks for your encouragement!! Now, correct me if i'm wrong but I think the language is a mix of german with "normandic" or irish i don't really know. At least that's what i heard anyway. Thank you for your reply and for agreeing with me that Sigur Ros is, by far, the best band in the universe. Their music applyes to anything!!! think about it..

  • Beautiful interview. By far, the best band in the entire universe!!! agree??

  • I agree with you , my english is not so good to understand all the interview, but they look so honest , for me they are true people with really conviction , they love life , heart, people, I love them, and one day , I will go to their beautiful land

  • OMG!!! what's the name of the song at 0:14-:16??? please somebody!!!!!!!!!

  • its called "Hljomalind" you can get it on Hvarf-Heim

  • Thank you very much!!!! you from Iceland??

  • thats ok. and no lol, are you?

  • No!! but i want to go very bad. Since I knew Sigur Ros, i wanted to go right away. For what i've seen, is a natural treasure and after seeing that landscape now I know that is the main source for inspiration to Sigur Ros.(must be). LOL! thank's for reply.

  • I like that fact he was honest and didn't get all pretentious about the made up language he sings in :P

  • The main singer's eyes trip me out, but their music is amazing

  • He's half blind

  • Perhaps you also get 'tripped out' by people without limbs, or children with downs syndrome in the street? Perhaps you should stay in your house so you can be protected from such people. You are correct they make wonderful music, but your comment about his medical ailment is better kept to yourself.

  • My favorite bands are Radioehead and Sigur Ros and both their frontmen have a screwed up eye. That is so cool!

  • yeah exactly, and I also adore Daavid Bowie. Check HIS eyes... :)

  • He does have awesome eyes.

  • Radiohead*

  • haha I was thinking the same thing today.

  • @Invisible1one thats because they see the world differently too most people.

  • jeez, ok, that was harsh. at least he or she is being honest. it's better to be open and say it than to pretend it's not there.

  • Is heima out yet?

  • It's been out since November 2006/7

  • learn the correct spelling of the band.

  • I love Georg :D

  • One of my favourite bands....truly amazing.

  • Singer doesn't sound very happy at the end just after she says "It sounds like you're saying 'I sigh alone' in English".

Still the greatest band on earth, and I really wanna borrow Heima from my brother.

  • he laughs...

  • I know but it sounds like his voice is just trailing off...almost like he doesn't wanna be there. Maybe it's just to me.

  • if you get the chance, go to iceland someday. The whole country is painfully introverted. The music will make more sense after you've been there

  • Yes. exactly, actually, the music got me into iceland! I'm practicly obbsessed with iceland now, thanks to the music. When I listen to Sigur Ros, I think of Reykjavik and Iceland's beauty. It totaly goes together, and i would love to go there soon. I plan on it in my lifetime

  • @river6969us but at least they are happy! Haha, isn't Ireland another more introverted country?

  • ahh wheres orri

  • they come across as minimalistic but they are actually incredibly ambicious. they make up their own language for god's/alla's/buddha's sake! the most original music i've heard in a while.

  • If you see, though, the "made-up language" (Vonleská, if I'm not mistaken) isn't properly a language, because it doesn't deliver any meaning. It's just a handful of syllables that Jónsi uses for the way they sound and the way they fit into the music.

  • right. i should've guessed that lol.

  • ive heard bullshit and sigur ros is not it!

  • Great interview.

  • haha

this interview is so much better than the npr one

  • yeah maybe for people who don't enjoy awkward silence....

  • sucks? why because you cant suck his dick?

  • oh, come on mate is just a joke in fact i was in a concert here in mexico totally chaos becuz of the police of course and i think sigur is just great his drummer has to take out of the stage some health problems but i like more andrew bird thats an artist

  • Sigur Ros guarantees a place in my heart.

  • It´s embarrasing when they always go on about the landscape and how that´s their only source of inspiration - I don´t think that´s how it is. Just because it´s different from the british landscape - that must be the reason

  • I'm not a fan of SR or anything but the more I listen to them, the more I understand- they're the best band in the world.

  • Its really just... bullshit

    haha

    love it

  • Iunno y everyone has to bring up his eye.

Well anyways, Ive got to say that all the people I find inspiring are not perfect like these celebrities and others who seek out to be perfect.

  • It's not a made-up language!! Hopelandic doesn't exist! It's just sounds and syllables to make up the missing lyrics! Even I do it with my band!

  • what does soth mean?

  • Um Sooth i don't know how to spell it

  • Jònsi's voice is just like Kasper Eistrup's (danish rockband Kashmir) voice! Lol!

  • Forget "one of the best bands in Iceland"; Sigur Ros is one of the best bands on the planet.

  • so true... IT"S "SEE-OOR ROSE"! and "HEE-MAH"!

  • She Pronounces Heima right, but not Sigurrós.

  • PRONOUNCE IT RIGHT!

  • It's sad that that one bloke said "if you're not writing a book or something, then you're nothing". Iceland as desolate a place as it may seem must be an incredibly creative place. I envy those guys...

  • aww i totally forgot about jonsi's eye- and freaked out when i saw that.. Such an amazing band..

  • i noticed something too... what's wrong with it?

  • His right eye is a fake eye.

I dont know the story behind that one.. heh

  • its fake?? i thought he was just blind in one eye.

  • yea its fake.. :P

  • Fake? No. He IS blind on one eye.

  • Uhh you obviously didnt get what i said hah. Never denied his right blind eye. His right eye is a fake eye... A glass eye...

  • Oh, okay

  • Yesterday, i met a man who said that Heima is an Icelandic landscape porn film...

    He is so wrong!

    Its the greatest movie ever

  • Sigur Ros are one of the most unique bands around, hope to get to a gig in the near future.

    Haunting, beautiful, magical music

  • there is no band on this planet that makes music like these guys. not one.
