I say they can quit if the want to. But her parents need to know when enough is enough. Even though theyre not there, they should see the amount of discipline on this girl simply by the look of her body!!
@imadancerfool Communist ideology: fuck the girls, you can do whatever you have to with them, starve them, beat them, mentally fuck them, torture them. As long as they are the best, to make Russia feel like the best. Who cares they are good for nothing at 20? They must be perfectly tuned dancing machines at 18. I lived in a communist country and experienced the ideology first hand, my dad was a trainer. You make me sick. You are no better than Islam. Shame.
Guys, this is why Russia produces the greatest dancers in the world. They have discipline and are forced to perfection. I think America is too gentle...we coddle too much...I think she is perfect.
i know ballet teachers can be strict but talking to someone like that is just not on, she is actually good. i would like to see the teacher try and do better!

Oh I would love to look like Oksana, she has a perfect body for ballet.

there's a difference between being strict and killing these girls! They're crying and they think they would never be enough, they believe in what she says. they think they'd be idiots. they are childs. noone has the right to do this!!! never!!!
you dont have to be an obnoxious B to make someone a great dancer...I use to dance and I ride horses now...really those instructors that are that low need their own lifes looked at,,,I have had both nice and obnoxiously mean instructors..let me tell you a nice tough one can push you just as well
i learnt for 13 years with the same teacher, she screamed and shouted and called us names, but thats why i am so good now. i think, the stricter the teacher the better you get. if you are told you look good and youre not doing it well enough, then how do you learn from that? i agree with the top comments.
I understand that a teacher must be strict, but this is taking it too far. My ballet has called me alot of things, but she never says anything that insulting. Of course, if a teacher is being strict with you, that only means she sees potential in you, but a teacher must never go to the point of actualy calling you horrible names, that are not meant as a joke!
Ive done ballet in different dance schools.. and I do have to say that the more stricter teacher the better I do. If I get yelled at it motivates me more. I was in a dance school doing ballet with a teacher who coddled us basically. And I didnt learn nearly as much as when I moved to a pro school where the russian teacher yelled and said 'I'm gona shoot you all if you dont get it right' ha. He was super nice though after classes but I'm so glad he always yelled and came to slap you. I learned!
This why I prefer the French system over the Russian. The Paris Opera are able to produce great dancers without yelling insults at them--they focus on theory, physiology and pedagogy as well.
I'd like to see that fat cunt of an instructor perform even ONE of those moves. As if she could even attempt! She looks like she weighs about 250lbs and hasn't excerised in years. And no, Granny, channel and Internet surfing do not count as exercise.
Holy crap, of course you need to be tough with anything elite and professional, but seriously, insulting CHILDREN like that? Way to suck all the fun out of dancing lady. I'd like to see that fat ass teacher try to do that stuff again, then she'd really remember how hard it is and how hard the girls are trying (I say used to because I assume she's an ex dancer herself)
omg shes such a bitch...id tell her you fat fuck lift your leg up and try and stand on your toes...and see if she does it perfectly right every single time...she worked my nerbes and shes not eben talking to me
(sorry for my accent writting i ment even and nerves)
i do think this method works...i mean, look at russian ballet dancers they are basically perfect...BUT, that girl at 0:34 the white marks on her face are a sign of denutrition.
Now that I am against of, yes, professional ballet dancers have to be skinny, but definitively not sick, i am sure in every ballet school they ask you to be thin, but they can be thin and healthy not like in this, i mean, they need energy, strong muscles and bones...with that "nutrition" their ballet life will be short.
I'm russian and doig ballet. they have to tell bad things and yell at us. it makes us stronger and you can not be a pro without these teachers. no pain no gain guys
you're wrong, I'm doing ballet & I'm so glad that my teachers is always so kind and patient with me because that way I care so much about what she thinks of me that she doesn't need to yell, when I do something wrong all I need is calm & gentle corrections & that look of dissapointment when I'm not learning as fast as I should because when you have as much respect & love for your teacher as I do for mine, then it's much more upsetting to disapoint them than to be yelled at by them.
@zivatony23 There's a limit though. We're all different. Most people who take constant verbal abuse end up hurting themselves because of it. Telling someone they're worthless isn't going to make them want to try more all the time. If you take it as a way to make you stronger that's to the individual, but some people already get enough crap at home that coming into a situation like that can just be damaging :/
@zivatony23 yes you are right, it does make them into the best dancers... TECHNICALLY but it takes away their love and passion for dancing. This shows in their performances. Ballet is not about perfection.
@meganretana101 The Russians are the most passionate and artistic dancers in the world. The love for ballet that they share as an entire NATION is unlike that in any other culture, and it is safe to say that every Russian has a place for ballet in his/her heart. Ballerinas in Russia are super stars. I cannot imagine what you see in their performances that shows anything BUT love and passion, let alone the exact opposite. Also - ballet is most definitely about perfection, among other things.
@zivatony23 Yeah but you're not going to be a pro for long or even make it to being a pro if you die of heart failure, like a lot of long-time sufferers of anorexia and/or bulemia. Basically you're saying "no starving yourself to death, no gain guys". :/ Bad advice is bad advice.
@TillowFrik You won't be a pro at all if you don't have the right body. There is a huge difference between eating at a high deficit and having a life-threatening eating disorder. I am so sick of people in America overreacting and diagnosing everyone who does not eat at least 1200 cals a day with anorexia. It is becoming ridiculous. For the record, there are more eating disorders in ballet dancers in the US than in Russia. IF Oksana did have anorexia, she is the exception among Russian ballerinas
@zivatony23 That's why Russians have so many psychological problems. Look at the high crime rate in Russia. All sorts of sick psychos come out of Russia.
@mademoiselleLoveGame And none of them are ballet dancers. By the way - do you have any statistical evidence that Russians have more psychological problems and crime than the US, or some other countries in the world? Your comments stem from being uneducated about other cultures. Can I take a guess? You were born in America and have never lived outside of the country, possible never even vacationed outside of the country.
@zivatony23 I'm sorry, I'm not a ballet dancer, so I would not know, but really? This is verbal abuse, not constructive criticism. Wouldn't constructive criticism be better for you professional ballet dancers rather than insults? I'm sorry that's just my take on it based on what the teachers are saying alone, not from the dancing and practicing required. No pain no gain is usually applied to difficulties not abuse. This does not seem to be tough but fair like other ballet teachers, just cruelty.
@zivatony23 I agree! I do Russian Ballet ( on points now) My teacher is really strict! But in the real world she's nice! My teacher yells at me a lot just to make me upset so I can do better! I am way skinnier than last year! I have reached a higher level and I'm very happy!
@MusikkIzMiLiffee Constructive critisism is saying something like 'Try and lift your leg higher" Not "YOU FUCKING FAT IDIOT! You'll NEVER get this right!!!!"
invisibleessential.... are you crazy???? if you cant accept harsh criticism? u cant be speaking honestly... i am a musician tought by russian teachers and know perfectly that world translated to music... and of course there are other ways of teching wich dont have to do with insulting and treating girls badly... if u are a ballerina u should think about it... and if u are i wouldnt like to see u dance
@TheAmelie87 Hey I never got to see your comment until now...so I apologize for late reply. I am indeed a ballerina myself. Let me tell you my story: the way my hips were born prevented me from doing the splits. I started ballet at age 4 and was able to dance fine without splits. However at age 11 (starting pointe) the inability to do the splits affected my technique and therefore my future career in ballet. All the teachers I'd had up to that point were nice about it and were understanding
@TheAmelie87 -cont- when I couldn't turnout properly. However I transferred another ballet school where the teacher would yell at me in front of the entire class. Needless to say I cried my eyes out all the time. But that was when I started to push myself. It took me an entire 8 months to get all the way down central splits. But now I can do them fine. I'm not the only person with this type of story. I don't know exactly the story of the girl in the video, but think about it this way: if the
@TheAmelie87 -cont2- teacher didn't care about the dancing skill of the student- why would she even bother yelling at her? If she really thought the girl was worthless, she wouldn't even bother yelling at her and at least in my old school, she would just have been kicked out. I would also like to add that this is in a Russian ballet school. Russia is pretty famous for the technical quality of ballet, and it is almost impossible to get perfect technique without the motivation of harsh training.
@invisibleessential This is very true. It's not a bad thing, either; I'm not entirely sure why people think it is. It's just the world of a ballet dancer! There is a reason that professional ballet dancers are a small, highly elite group of people, that that reason is not only because you must have a certain body, but also because you must have a certain mind.
Sad. I left a ballet academy one time because of an instructor like that- she was into Vaganova hard core and would keep certain students out of the lesson so they would just sit there if she felt they weren't capable enough of her combinations. Her class kept shrinking and finally I realized it was because of her and I took off.
@kristadancer15 I don't know if you didn't recognize it from the snow, the names Oksana and Masha, and the language, but this is Russia. Russian dancers, gymnasts, and other artists are perhaps the most disciplined in the world. No, this is not America, which is why you have never heard of it living in the heart of California. It's a completely different culture. They do not hate it, they end up striving harder and harder and become the top ballerinas of the world.
@OlgaAlexx You know what all of you may be right and I am not saying that I know everything about ballet, but I still don't believe this is how you get trained dancers that love ballet. And I know that Russia is different than Cali but still California and the U.S in general has amazing ballet companies that don't treat there dancers like this. Ever heard of Juilliard or Joffrey?
@kristadancer15 What is there to believe? There is an abundance of PROOF that "this is how you get trained dancers that love ballet". Yes, Juilliard and Joffrey, they dance, whatever - they don't compare to the Russians. Ever heard of Bolshoi, Mariinsky, Perm, Novosibirsk, Odessa, Ukraine...National Academic Theaters...?
From the age of eight or nine until they are grown-ups they see their parents twice a year. For most children who attend the school, ballet represents their only chance in life for a future. They have beautiful dreams and work unbelievably hard to achieve their goal. After nine years of training 30 students will graduate. One or two will get a job.
The most stupid lie I've ever heard. There is not truth about ballet schoos at all!!!
I disagree to those of you who say that this is just how it goes and that this is how the ballet world is. I am a ballerina. I dance all over Cali including LA. None of my teachers have ever been like this and they have danced al over the world. Nothing is like this in the real world. This is bull. Trust me. I would know.. And these girls are going to end up hating ballet when they grow up... So sad....
@kristadancer15 Actually, these are the girls that usually become Prima Ballerinas. So I think not. They are disciplined. This is a completely other culture that we aren't used to. Don't be harsh on it.
Lets face it, its russian ballet the best, not american. Its russian ballerinas dance all омук the world. When we visit Cali we visit Hollywood, not theatre. Trust me
Lets face it. its russian ballet the best, not american, its russian ballerinas dance and star all over the world. When we visit Cali we visit Hollywood, not theatre.
I know the treatment seems harsh but that is the reality of this art. It is one of the most difficult to master regardless of what anyone wants to say. These girls will not reach the level of excellence they need to in order to be taken into a company unless they instructor drills them so hard. Any they do not have eating disorders. They eat properly portioned food....America has a very distorted view of what that means. If these girls had an eating disorder they would not be able to dance.
Guys, you know nothing about ballet if you say, that the teacher is mean and the girls are going to die because they starve. It's ballet! You have to be thin, because only in that case this kind of dance will be beautiful and teacher has to be very strict, because otherwise girls will not master their techique. I went throught it and I hated my teachers but now I'm grateful to them, though I' m not a dancer. What do you want, something like "could you be so kind and do not sway?" You're funny.
@iluvjennamrbls...is this a joke? i dance every day of the week. 5 1 and 80 pounds. i can do more pullups then most people in my grade, can run faster, AND can touch my leg to my head. what can you do, catch a ball? i can do that too. while standing on my toes.
stop your crying!! all you girls complain *balet is a sport dance is a sport blah blah we have rghts! and then you cry when the coach yells at you!! in sports the coach isnt nice!!! dance is NOT a sport
@iluvjennamrbls do you fucking know ANYTHING about dance yourself? huh.. im guessing NOT. and if you do, you must suck. because true dancers know dance IS a sport. and yeah, most sport coaches ARE mean. So hey, maybe, dance IS a sport? I THINK SO.
@mangamacho122897 Dance is most definitely not a sport. Ballet originated in the theater - this makes it an art. It is possibly the highest form of art, although that could be left to opinion. Anyway, there is no denying that ballet is athletic, it is. But it is not a sport. That does not mean it's any less difficult - I say with entire certainty that ballet, an art, is more difficult than any sport because of the demand of both athleticism and artistry.
@iluvjennamrbls Dance has offically been recognized as a sport. Even before that we still worked hard for something we loved to do and having it be recognized was just extra icing on the cake.
ah! I know how she feels. I had a little bit similar attitude - not the same at all - from a classical piano teacher. I am in Israel but i came from Russian and so did the teacher. She was considered good. I remember passively hating her...I remember till now that break that came after a graduated the music school with a beautiful solo concert - considered so wonderful by all - while playing like a robot.
I'm Russian and this type of treatment is all too familiar. It's a different culture, and discipline was and perhaps still is achieved through insults and inculcation. Think Soviet athletes during the Olympics. how did they achieve consistent results? Skill came with the price/burden of intense training and loss of self esteem. I'm not saying that it's a good method. it's detrimental to one's character, but statistically speaking, it got results.
@asyuga thank you because im like are all russians like this but most russians are talented and girl russians are so pretty blue eyes blonde or black hair soo cute and pretty
this teacher has probably danced for more than half her life at a professional level, and the reason she talks to those girls like that is because she can. They respect her completely.
the ballet mistress knows what she's talking about. she's retired and probably gained 100 pounds. i'm sorry this is what separates real ballerinas from the wannabes. they treat them horribly as children, this is how they weed out the weak ones. it shows, you really have to LOVE ballet, and be a little bit masochistic to pursue it as your career. the girls do eat, they are given regular meals at school. but they are dancing nearly 8 hours a day which is why they have almost no body fat.
The fat ass teacher couldnt even lift her leg above her knees i would beat the fuck out of her fat ass if i ever heard she hit my kid or smacked like she did, plus the hurtful things making the girls to feel like they are ugly and worthless she need to disappear like down a well or in the desert somewhere!!!
Oh goodness. The blond girl with the things on her face? that's scurvy, I'm pretty sure. Or some other malnourishment-related disease. They will die before they do anything big with their careers. If this is ballet, this is torture. Same problem with the russians at the olympics. They starved them to make them perform better (not 08). Starving for the average person is bad, but when your burning so many thousand calories a day, you could die. Really. any day now.
@rachelgalmusic2010 probably rosin. dancers put it on their feet to help them not to slip, it must have gotten on her hands and she was wiping her face or somthing.
To all those attacking the teacher: I am sure she did it when she was their age. Though she shouts and insults them, and I don't like it, thats her choice.. and their choice. And you know, they can leave any day and yet they stay in this school... and Russian ballet stands at the top.
Yes, I get your point but the russian way of dance is so sleek and perfect and you can't just get to the top with a calm teacher who will teach you semi good they are only mean because they want them to be good and... there amazing !! i love russian Ballet and i think it stands out from the rest.
@pasotrav Why is it stupid? I was just expressing that I'd like to see the teacher doing the ballet exercises the dancers have to do. I never said she couldn't.
I say they can quit if the want to. But her parents need to know when enough is enough. Even though theyre not there, they should see the amount of discipline on this girl simply by the look of her body!!

i learnt for 13 years with the same teacher, she screamed and shouted and called us names, but thats why i am so good now. i think, the stricter the teacher the better you get. if you are told you look good and youre not doing it well enough, then how do you learn from that? i agree with the top comments.

TheVicbaby 2 months ago
Ive done ballet in different dance schools.. and I do have to say that the more stricter teacher the better I do. If I get yelled at it motivates me more. I was in a dance school doing ballet with a teacher who coddled us basically. And I didnt learn nearly as much as when I moved to a pro school where the russian teacher yelled and said 'I'm gona shoot you all if you dont get it right' ha. He was super nice though after classes but I'm so glad he always yelled and came to slap you. I learned!

This why I prefer the French system over the Russian. The Paris Opera are able to produce great dancers without yelling insults at them--they focus on theory, physiology and pedagogy as well.

i do think this method works...i mean, look at russian ballet dancers they are basically perfect...BUT, that girl at 0:34 the white marks on her face are a sign of denutrition.

MakeupQueen1001 2 months ago
@zivatony23
you're wrong, I'm doing ballet & I'm so glad that my teachers is always so kind and patient with me because that way I care so much about what she thinks of me that she doesn't need to yell, when I do something wrong all I need is calm & gentle corrections & that look of dissapointment when I'm not learning as fast as I should because when you have as much respect & love for your teacher as I do for mine, then it's much more upsetting to disapoint them than to be yelled at by them.
StormyyDreams 2 months ago
@zivatony23 There's a limit though. We're all different. Most people who take constant verbal abuse end up hurting themselves because of it. Telling someone they're worthless isn't going to make them want to try more all the time. If you take it as a way to make you stronger that's to the individual, but some people already get enough crap at home that coming into a situation like that can just be damaging :/
cursedcookies 2 months ago
@zivatony23 yes you are right, it does make them into the best dancers... TECHNICALLY but it takes away their love and passion for dancing. This shows in their performances. Ballet is not about perfection.
meganretana101 2 months ago
@meganretana101 The Russians are the most passionate and artistic dancers in the world. The love for ballet that they share as an entire NATION is unlike that in any other culture, and it is safe to say that every Russian has a place for ballet in his/her heart. Ballerinas in Russia are super stars. I cannot imagine what you see in their performances that shows anything BUT love and passion, let alone the exact opposite. Also - ballet is most definitely about perfection, among other things.

All sorts of sick psychos come out of Russia.
mademoiselleLoveGame 1 month ago
@mademoiselleLoveGame And none of them are ballet dancers. By the way - do you have any statistical evidence that Russians have more psychological problems and crime than the US, or some other countries in the world? Your comments stem from being uneducated about other cultures. Can I take a guess? You were born in America and have never lived outside of the country, possible never even vacationed outside of the country.
noachka 1 month ago
@zivatony23 I'm sorry, I'm not a ballet dancer, so I would not know, but really? This is verbal abuse, not constructive criticism. Wouldn't constructive criticism be better for you professional ballet dancers rather than insults? I'm sorry that's just my take on it based on what the teachers are saying alone, not from the dancing and practicing required. No pain no gain is usually applied to difficulties not abuse. This does not seem to be tough but fair like other ballet teachers, just cruelty.

@TheAmelie87 Hey I never got to see your comment until now...so I apologize for late reply. I am indeed a ballerina myself. However at age 11 (starting pointe) the inability to do the splits affected my technique and therefore my future career in ballet. All the teachers I'd had up to that point were nice about it and were understanding

I'm not the only person with this type of story. I don't know exactly the story of the girl in the video, but think about it this way: if the
invisibleessential 1 month ago
@TheAmelie87 -cont2- teacher didn't care about the dancing skill of the student- why would she even bother yelling at her? If she really thought the girl was worthless, she wouldn't even bother yelling at her and at least in my old school, she would just have been kicked out. I would also like to add that this is in a Russian ballet school. Russia is pretty famous for the technical quality of ballet, and it is almost impossible to get perfect technique without the motivation of harsh training.
invisibleessential 1 month ago 2
If you can't take harsh criticism then you don't have what it takes to be a good ballerina. That's all.
invisibleessential 5 months ago
@invisibleessential This is very true. It's not a bad thing, either; I'm not entirely sure why people think it is. It's just the world of a ballet dancer! There is a reason that professional ballet dancers are a small, highly elite group of people, that that reason is not only because you must have a certain body, but also because you must have a certain mind.

Don't hate just because you
OlgaAlexx 6 months ago
@OlgaAlexx You know what all of you may be right and I am not saying that I know everything about ballet, but I still don't believe this is how you get trained dancers that love ballet. And I know that Russia is different than Cali but still California and the U.S in general has amazing ballet companies that don't treat there dancers like this. Ever heard of Juilliard or Joffrey?
kristadancer15 6 months ago 3
@kristadancer15 What is there to believe? There is an abundance of PROOF that "this is how you get trained dancers that love ballet". Yes, Juilliard and Joffrey, they dance, whatever - they don't compare to the Russians. Ever heard of Bolshoi, Mariinsky, Perm, Novosibirsk, Odessa, Ukraine...National Academic Theaters...?
noachka 1 month ago
From the age of eight or nine until they are grown-ups they see their parents twice a year. For most children who attend the school, ballet represents their only chance in life for a future. They have beautiful dreams and work unbelievably hard to achieve their goal. After nine years of training 30 students will graduate. One or two will get a job.
The most stupid lie I've ever heard. There is not truth about ballet schoos at all!!!
litinaa 6 months ago
I disagree to those of you who say that this is just how it goes and that this is how the ballet world is. I am a ballerina. I dance all over Cali including LA. None of my teachers have ever been like this and they have danced al over the world. Nothing is like this in the real world. This is bull. Trust me. I would know.. And these girls are going to end up hating ballet when they grow up... So sad....

@kristadancer15 Actually, these are the girls that usually become Prima Ballerinas. So I think not. They are disciplined. This is a completely other culture that we aren't used to. Don't be harsh on it.

ShirleyWoodruff 7 months ago
Guys, you know nothing about ballet if you say, that the teacher is mean and the girls are going to die because they starve. It's ballet! You have to be thin, because only in that case this kind of dance will be beautiful and teacher has to be very strict, because otherwise girls will not master their techique. I went throught it and I hated my teachers but now I'm grateful to them, though I' m not a dancer. What do you want, something like "could you be so kind and do not sway?" You're funny.

iluvjennamrbls 7 months ago
@mangamacho122897 Dance is most definitely not a sport. Ballet originated in the theater - this makes it an art. It is possibly the highest form of art, although that could be left to opinion. Anyway, there is no denying that ballet is athletic, it is. But it is not a sport. That does not mean it's any less difficult - I say with entire certainty that ballet, an art, is more difficult than any sport because of the demand of both athleticism and artistry.
noachka 1 month ago
@iluvjennamrbls Dance has offically been recognized as a sport. Even before that we still worked hard for something we loved to do and having it be recognized was just extra icing on the cake.

I'm not saying that it's a good method. it's detrimental to one's character, but statistically speaking, it got results.

the ballet mistress knows what she's talking about. she's retired and probably gained 100 pounds. i'm sorry this is what separates real ballerinas from the wannabes. they treat them horribly as children, this is how they weed out the weak ones. it shows, you really have to LOVE ballet, and be a little bit masochistic to pursue it as your career. the girls do eat, they are given regular meals at school. but they are dancing nearly 8 hours a day which is why they have almost no body fat.

Oh goodness. The blond girl with the things on her face? that's scurvy, I'm pretty sure. Or some other malnourishment-related disease. They will die before they do anything big with their careers.
