Cute little desert tortoise . How old is it and when does it mature enough to tell the sex? I rescued a wild full grown female that was lost in Palm Springs near my house and busy roads. I have several other pet tortoises and she stayed for winter so she could sleep for the cold months. We took her up to the Indian canyons where she would be safe when she woke. She was very sweet and had a very pretty face, loved to eat the red cactus fruit and hybiscus.
hey i got a tortoise like that one but like 6 inches long and i tried to feed it with nopal but it ignored it and went to walk what can i feed it with?
hi Javier, what i think is that the temperature is too cold for it when you feed it. try giving the nopal and/or tomatoes when it receives the sun directly or the temperarure is warm.
my neighbors moved and they gave me abandoned their tortoise in their backyard so i took him and now i am figuring out how to keep him alive if u have any tips please let me know much appreciated :)
Hello, desert tortoises are totally vegetarian, i feed him with red tomatoes, nopal (kind of catus), marrows and supplement nutritional with special vitamins and calcium for desert reptiles, clean wather, and they also need to take the sun directly at least 30 minutes per day. Please let me know if you need something else ;)
i have heard that the acids in tomatos are bad for thembut u have had them longer than me
i double stacked fence boards and made a 10by10 outdoor ebclosure and ive been feeding him an assortment of collard greens mustard greens carrots broccolli and peas witth calcium supplement every other day

you keep him in a cage? thats a good idea if you want to keep it small but i just let it walk around the house and it gets himself out into the back yard though the doggy door. its about... a foot and a halfish
Yes i let it walk in a front yard and to take directly the sun's rays everyday, but is just his place for sleep, and the wallpaper is for make him better, like in the desert.
