As much as i loved seeing this game, we as America just don't have the talent or gameplay to match the rest of the world. remember after this game we blew a huge lead to brazil to give them the cup. Yes, it makes more sense to call soccer football. But, American football has been referred to as such for 100 years.
American football is derivative "Rugby Union Football" (thus calling it football) as opposed to "Association Football"

La verdad es que habeis merecido ganar desde el principio por el impresionante trabajo defensivo y ofensivo. Fuimos demasiado confiados y por eso bajamos mucho el nivel.

Can´t you read? Football is not your game. You win accidentally with lucky goals of 1 of the best Football nations of the world. Come on, be realistic, this is just a one time hitter, nothing more. You really think you can win of all great football nations, like Brasil, Argentina, England, France or Holland. I dont think so. Btw, you LOST this tournament of Italy and Brasil, did you forget that? And btw, I am not from Spain.

Holland has never won a World Cup either. The US team made it to the Quarterfnals in 2002, played poorly and was eliminated in the first round in 2006, and now we will see how they do in 2010. They are not on the same level as Brazil, Germany, England, or Argentina, OBVIOUSLY, but they are closer to the Netherlands than you think.

I say this because you Americans forget that you lost of World Champion Italy and South American Champion and Cup holder Brasil. Those losses were very obvious and totally expected.
Next year at the real World Cup you have no chance against Heavy Weights like Spain, Italy, Brasil, Argentina, England, Portugal, Germany, France and Holland. So keep on dreaming or play some basketball or baseball and just wake up.

We didnt "forget". We dont really even PLAY football in the States which is what makes the win v. Spain so amazing. (At least, men dont play it. American women do and they are the best in the world.)BTW, the USA has won just as many World Cups as your "heavyweights" Holland, Portugal, or Spain have.

To all americans up here I just wanna say that this game against Spain is just a lucky punch. Spain lost because they were underestimating the US because the US is still a midget in football. Next time the US team will be beaten by a heavy weight football nation like Spain. Dont forget they´re the champion of Europe.

OK I agree the US got lucky. They played with heart and Spain underestimated them. That's a given but it's not about who is best in the world but who is best on the field.
I respect and love the way football (soccer for us Americans) is represented around the world. The fans are so passionate and the US needs more fans like that but the US will be a contender one day. Give it time.

But you also have to be 1 of the best in the world to dominate and win a great tournement like the World Cup and not just 1 game but I think you'll understand what I mean by that.

ok im american but my parents are peruvian..futbol is my passion and i watch every league in the world..what you have to understand is that more than just the game was won for america that day..This win against the NUMBER 1 in the world is huge..not in statistic or result..soccer just got a huge boost in america cause of this things like this is what will make soccer grow in america..im not saying we'll win next year..but in a couple oh boy we'll be considered an international respected team USA

I agree with you on this.
Honestly I don't see the US making the finals. But if they play the way they have been these last 2 games, with heart and passion, they have a realistic chance to get past the knockout stage and possibly go as far as the semis.
Just my opinion.
They won't be stuck in a group with 2 World Class teams like Brazil and Italy.
And I know the only time the US has ever reached the semifinals is 80 years ago (next year).

socrcrzy333, I have to admit that you Americans have a great sports mentality, no doubt about it. But there are 2 many nations of the traditional continents to beat (Europe, South America and western Africa) You just now had to face a small number of those countries because the conf cup is just a small tournement. And besides high rated nations like Spain, Portugal and Holland were so far never World Champion and they have all great teams and great players and even for them it's difficult.
