the problem is you think people are generally good. It's clear in the Bible that all men everywhere have turned away from God in sin bringing upon themselves condemnation. So, instead of "God is so mean because he ordains the destruction of a people," from a Biblical perspective it's "what a merciful God! That he would show great patience towards the nations, sustaining their lives for hundreds of years allowing time for repentance even while their blasphemous sins rise up before the just judge.
@wooping5 So you are pro genocide, as long as the people inflicting it believe that is what God told them to do? Sorry, I see things completely differently. Genocide is always wrong in my opinion.
@wooping5 People are all the time faced with risk / benefit analysis. There is always a trade off between conflicting priorities. Each person needs to do an assessment on each behaviour in terms of pros & cons but often some information is missing so people take chances / guesses. Life is about knowing the rules that have been set by government & not breaking them. See 'The reason driven life' by Robert M Price, also John W. Loftus, Dan Barker, Bart Ehrman, Valerie Tarico, Ken Humphreys
@wooping5 The division is not between Christian / non Christian. It is more between those who try to live ethically & those who don't. I think most people do try to comply with the rules of what is socially acceptable, its just that people make mistakes , especially when they are stressed. People sometimes get wound up & lash out. I have faith in the Golden Rule & the riddle of 'love your neighbour & enemy' if it means be caring & make specific comments about the action / idea in question
These videos remind me of when I was homeschooled with my brother. Every day we had bible study lessons. The teacher would make us take turns reading long, disturbing passages, and neither of us really understood what was going on. We read about a lot of wars (like the Jericho deal), and every time we said "kill" or "destroy", the words would stick in our throats. The teacher criticized us for this and made my brother cry. I was so little, I actually thought my brother had been the wrong one.
The fact that Rahab, the prostitute, and her family were saved means that it wasn't due to race or nationality that the people of Jericho were destroyed. If race was the reasoning, then Rahab should've been killed regardless of what she did to help the Israelites. Therefore, the people of Jericho were not killed because of who they were but because of what they did. Those who are mature and non-delusional will realize that death is a better alternative than certain lives.
Saying that because the Bible is flawed God must not be real is a fallacy. The Bible isn't the only source of religious inspiration, it's just the most popular. If you found one history book that depicted the holocaust in a positive light (I hope you wouldn't be able to) would you come to the conclusion that all of history and it's teachings are incorrect?
The Bible is flawed. Big surprise. It was written over 2,000 years ago- cosmically speaking, do you think they had ANYTHING right back then?
The Bible is justified for 2 reasons: 1. It's really old 2. A lot of other people believe/did believe in it. I'm not going to disagree with you, nor defend this or any other passage of the bible you want to point out. So please don't ask me to.
Now that that's out of the way, I do need to say that simply because the Bible is questionable does not mean that the church(es) built on a biblical foundation are wrong. They simply lack adequate evidence for their "teachings."
because the Nazis were a party formed on a specific "ideology" when the allies sought for the deliberate and systematic destruction of this formed group, the allies technically performed Genocide. A genocide most people would agree was necessary. If you really read into the Bible you will find that the people of Jericho were terrible people, who had to be stopped from endangering the lives of those around them!
@tcool319 Please site the Bible passage that explained how terrible the people were. Also, the Nazi's were not exterminated by genocide. When Germany lost the war, they were able to return to their country and begin to rebuild their economy with foreign aid.
@tcool319 included those sheep and donkies, who known that they are sinners too, by god even the babies that are still in their mother's womb are sinners
People in the bible have been raped, dismembered, tortured, burnt, drowned, stabbed and not to mention incest, slavery, sacrifice, genocide, sexism and throw in starvation for good measure. Sounds like something St

I don't think that the Allies participated in the death and murder of civilians.
