  • I've owned a rx8 231 for a few months now, and to those that say this is a standard car, it certainly doesn't feel like a familiar acceleration; a lot faster than usual from 4500 rpm upward.

  • you fail dude, turbos dont "kick in" they Spool up and begin creating pressure at a certain RPM but it all depends upon your turbo size weither or not you have a load on the engine etc. WTF does redlining an engine have to do with the transmission nothing thats what. Also, because of a rotarys low rotational mass, and its lack of reciprocating pistons it lives up at 8-12k rpm's in fact if you dont run them at those speeds every once in awhile i guarantee you your engine will plug up with soot.

  • here's a video for ya...best one I could find for now...but watch his rpms and listen to the blow off valve...at the end of the video he's only doing like 4500 rpm and you can hear the bov plain as day...now think about what it sounds like at 9000 rpm

  • OK in a turbo car..like my 8 depending on how you set it up.. u max at 10psi of boost at 9000 that's what I got my max set at...but anyways when u shift and go from 9000 psi down to 7000 your going from 10psi 2 like 8psi for example. So when u shift u'll hear the blow off valve blowing out that extra 2psi cause if it didn't your fuel ratio would be off. and with a turbo u will max each gear with almost equal acceleration. So there is no slowly building rpms. I don't get traction till 5th gear.

  • It is turbo, actually. Watch it, watch the RPM gauge, it gets to 4,000 and jumps, as the turbo kicks in.

  • yea it jumps cause that's when the car hits it's power band...like he said it's only like 105 cause in 4th you do right about 115-120 at redline...and 170 kph is nothing I pulled a prank on a friend one day and ran it to like 256kph and he was freaking which is still only about 158mph. That's topping out 5th gear and shifting to 6th which should hit ya about 185 -190. Any I hate to tell you...with cranking 9500 rpm and that slow ass shift...you'd hear that blow off valve it's not quiet I know.

  • I would not bet that this RX8 has turbo either ... it sounds like a normal RX8 ... Plus most turbo conversions do not rev 9500 rpm and start usualy at 3500-4000 to deliver high torque (they do not use same rpm range since temps are lots higher, and if u check the RX8 kits you will see ... ) I would say this one here is a normal HiPow Renesis ... (231HP, 9500RPM rev limit) With or without turbo is a great car! And with turbo rpms in 2nd and 3rd gear shall go up quicker ...

  • Thats pretty normal for a rotary. I used to drive a 12a rx7 and once you hit 4000 rpm it would just fly but under that there wasnt much. The rx8 in the video sounds the same as a stock rx8 so its really hard to tell without them showing a boost guage working.

  • It doesn't look like it. The tachometer on the automatic RX8's only go to 9,000 RPMs, and the manual goes to 10,000.

  • I meant that the absolute maximum on the tach is 10,000/9,000 not what it redlines at. And yeah, that's about right.

  • Oh come on, if you own an RX8 and drive it like you should often, you'd know this has a small turbo on it. The fact it goes from steady incline to faster just shows it's a turbo. The rotary is all about linear power. THIS is not linear.

  • i know the redline for the renesis. my question was will the turbo be able to feed the engine enough air up to that redline. drive it how you want, but you're almost reaching the point where your auxiliary ports open up. i usually shift between 3000-3500 rpm while cruising. even gunning it i shift around 8500 rpm. after that you're just losing power.

  • from all the research i've done on the rx-8(because i want to get one) rotary engines are able to withstand redlining more than a regular engine. and from driving my mazda 6 which is stick i've found waiting longer to shift lets you reach higher speeds faster

  • lmao, the rx8 redlines at about 9500 rmp and it can actually rev much higher then 10 but its really not recomended. Its a rotary engine so it is able to rev really high. I have one and even when Im driving on the roads not trying to go fast I dont switch gears til about 5500 rmp but when I punch it, i wait til about 9000 rmp b4 I switch gears.

  • with turbo you can get over 260 tq to the wheels on the rx8.

  • Doubt it. That kit gives you less than 6psi

  • install a boost controller, and you can get 220 tq at the wheels at 8-9 psi on the greddy turbo. To go higher you'd need to replace the mitsu turbo with something else. I use the MazdaManiac GT3071R turbo.

  • stock rx8 usually rates 170-190 whp on a dynojet. The newer automatics still rate lower hp than the manuals even with the same 6 port engine because of the decreased 7500 rpm redline.
