Its actually not that he's playing them straight its that he is playing behind or ahead of the beat it switches playing straight with accenting gives it the swing effect in this tune
basically I used a metronome to figure out what tempo I wanted, then tapped the tempo in on a loop pedal (using one of the built in clicks). Then I looped the chords/walking line (but you could just loop the chords) and played over it.
This is the right notes and rhytmns, but it is not played in even eighths like it is suppsed to be. When i learned this song on guitar, my teacher pointed out i was doing the same thing, almost playing a dotted eighth then a sixteen, instead of keeping it even and after much hard work and memorization, it was fixed. Other than that critical problem, it is an average playing of Parker's Donna Lee.
sounds great! just make sure you hit the A natural in the third bar in your improv!

technically you're a great player but you can't swing man... listen to how jaco plays it. all your eighth notes are way too straight.

Now that I listen to it again, there only a few spots that are even. Overall a decent playing of Donna Lee.

Good comment - that's exactly how I hear it to.
