i'm not really a fan of christmas songs. i mean i like fairytale of new york and merry christmas (war is over), but i'm always left under the impression a lot of them sound like they're just forcing you to enjoy christmas. i think this might be my favourite christmas song even though it wasn't intended to be a christmas song. like 1.20-1.30 makes me feel more christmasy than any lyric or chord from slade's merry christmas everybody.

if you want historical inaccuracies i would mention that the song should be clearly based on WWII. Its not the song which has the inaccuracy, it is the images accompanying it. "Bang there's another bomb on another town" - Air superiority was not a large factor and infact it wasn't even part of WWI it was effectivly air reconnaisance only.

"Mr. Churchill comes over here" - Again based on world war 2.

The images are the only thing which indicates the great war.

H was a freind of the war poet Rupert Brooke and and advocated Brooke's poetry for it heroic and honourable potrayle of war, whether he knew the truth I don't know, but this was fairly early in the war...He didn't just appearout of nowhere.
