Extremely well played. Very good listening material even for the so called 'connoisseurs' - some time ago I was at the conservatoire de Paris and saw how many Korean girls studied there.
great performance! i think she gains a lot from the tempo she takes it at...perlman, and even rachlin, lose some expression at their respective tempi
but, on the sibelius debate, i have to disagree -- lisa batiashvili did a performance of it in '07 with the finnish radio symphony that is the best i think ive ever heard

I just can't watch a Korean orchestra seriously, b/c you get to thinking all of these Asians are 'perfectionists' and dull, which I'm sure they aren't, but somehow, doesn't seem to measure up to a more diverse orchestra.
....... and what the hell are you talking about? Just say that you don't like this performance...... and say why u hate this video -_-;; just saying that kind of stuff is extremely weird
Just because someone can play something very clean and very well in tune doesn't make them a perfectionist. And what makes you think can say that asians play dull just because they're asian. That's clearly an ignorant statement and stereotypical.
Look, I don't know why it is that every time someone makes a slightly stereotypical comment, that ppl assume that that person is a different race. No! I'm Asian! Maybe that's worse, but I don't care. It's my opinion.
yeah, a korean orchestra in KOREA. go figure right? hey, i know. i bet you'd find an indian orchestra in INDIA or a chinese orchestra in CHINA. strange right?
What do you mean frozen? The way I see it, you (anyone) could play this piece either in complete control, or you could play it like a gypsy and not follow the rhythm. You may view it as if she's sticking to the rhythm, but Brahms was a composer that liked his phrases long, and complex. To play this with extreme freedom is unprofessional. There is also the fact that this is a low quality video, and not all the nuances in the performances can be heard.
Yeah, it's always nerve-racking unless you are completely confident. I think this is a fairly young orchestra though. And yes, she is an amazing violinist. Thanks for the comment.

@tamsuiman I am sorry but such comment is not necessary, is it?
They are all great violinists in their own rights.

The conductor is phantastic as the orchestra too. The violonist plays Brahms much more Brahms than many reknown "caucasian" violonists.

I love the Brahms. I fell in love with it the
first time I heard an old Fritz Kreisler
recording of it. Thanks for posting this.

You mean the horn player? I wouldn't know his name.

agree, I prefer her performance over Shaham's and Perlman's, beautifully played, powerful and moving...
dr3Am3r73 4 years ago
Wow..thank you very much. She will be very happy to hear that. Have you seen her Sibelius Concerto video?
thekidwhocameback 4 years ago 2
Not yet, my most favorite so far is Kyung Wha Chung's 1970 recording by Decca/London (conducted by Andre Previn).

I agree, the best sibelius is Kyung Wha Chung... hand down!! No one can come near it.

Like Poweitsai said, the orchestra is a little... :)
The forte part just before the solo violin enters doesn't sound very tight at all. Masterfully played by the soloist though.
