I love this version. I have him doing it on a blues compilation and it does not sizzle or boogie, the way that this live tv version does. Otis is a heavy weight. Page did an excellent cover of this on LZ 1. Believe it or not this is the tune that got me hooked on LZ!
@doncarvill1963 ahahaha u aint the only one to notice, at least they clapped enthusiastic. You should see all the stiff wallflowers in the European shows of Otis's and Freddie King. Makes this crowd look like its tearin the roof off the mother.
@sidescalona ever performed onstage in an extremely well lit auditorium? it's like being flash banged for 45 minutes. they're sweating like crazy cause the lights are so bright and hot... and they're probably stoned. It's most likely a combination.
Not only SRV and Jimmy Page, but everyone that followed the original blues giants stole licks. I like to think of it as "walking on the shoulders of GIANTS"
Yes, it was an Epiphone Riviera with mini humbuckers. I last saw it 20+ years ago stashed behind a big screen TV at Otis's house. The headstock was broken and the heads of the screws on the pickups had rusted off. It had been repaired a few times but he gave up on it. When you have 5 Gibson ES-355 stereo guitars it didn't matter to him.
Looks like he is playing that guitar upside down. I m confused. The pick guard is above the strings. Did he do that to protect the body from playing the low strings?
@Lachuffe Playing a right handed guitar left handed like hendrix and Albert King to name a couple more. High E was on top rather than on the bottom. Able to pull the strings to bend even more.

What lovely, soulful stuff. He widdles all over plastic drivel like Lady Caca and J Bieber. The blues is the best.

I know he's playing "left-handed" but is his guitar strung upside down? I'd swear it is.

Otis stole it from T-Bone Walker... It is great to see Otis so young and with a PERM....!
T-Bone Walker is the most ripped off guitarist of all time.. Because he was 100% original ..... And he did it first...
Thanks for posting this FANTASTIC VIDEO..... BRAVO ..!

@lonesomejohnnie think they just restrug it backwards idk bout the whole high e on top.....lol
jimmyhat21o 5 months ago
@lonesomejohnnie If you watch REALLY close you can plainly see the high E is the top string by the way he plays. It's a well documented fact.
lonesomejohnnie 5 months ago
@lonesomejohnnie He played the same way Albert King did, he just took the guitar and turned it over and went at it.

The touch on the guitar these old bluesmen had was unbelievable. Great posts.
