Wow, this is really stupid...I'm doing a project in my CATHOLIC school about a different religion, and I chose Islam because I thought it was pretty similar to Catholicism--at least in some aspects, but obviously I was wrong. In arranged marriages, parents can help choose a partner if that is what the individual wants, but it's up to the couple to decide whether or not they want to go ahead with it.

How do they know they're compatible with each other in term of personality,values and world view? Wow, this is really stupid...I'm doing a project in my CATHOLIC school about a different religion, and I chose Islam because I thought it was pretty similar to Catholicism--at least in some aspects, but obviously I was wrong. How is it wrong for a girl to spend time with her boyfriend? It doesn't encourage anything but closeness. And why do parents have to approve of the person a girl is dating? It's none of their business! I am thoroughly dissapointed in this religion...

Making people think that if they like someone, they must marry them rather than date and see if they do even love that person, you never know, they could be rushed straight into marriage and regret not getting to know that person for who they are.

While at times I think some religious teachings go too far in the mordern world (teachings which protected us in the past, but technology has advanced more in the last 100 years than it did in the previous 2,000), I do believe that the 'soul' of the teachings still hold true - do not rush, look before you leap. It's unfortunate that popular culture seems to be giving off all the wrong messages. There's nothing wrong with knowing someone for years before getting "intimate", or never doing so.
