  • Simple Mr. Mangum, you are merely a god of music.

  • Anyone else excited for Coachella?

  • 40 Watt is in Athens, not ATL. just sayin.

  • He really needs to come to New Mexico.

  • Going to see him at Coachella in April... Jesus Christ...

  • @VRedRoses I can't believe I am going to see him as well

  • yummy...

  • He needs to make another album, at least before he dies. Good artists always die early for some reason.

  • so wait, is this or is it not a jeff mangum original?

  • @thislooksverylegit this is a cover , not an original

  • Still the same.Epic!

  • i've been googling forever and i can't find who wrote this song! what is this a cover of!?

  • @irascib1e a low-fi duo from New Zealand called the Tall Dwarves. One member (Chris Knox) had a stroke and Jeff played at a tribute/fundraising concert. See also the compilation album Stroke.

  • I -3 Jeff Magnum

  • Still got it.

  • Fantastic!!

  • Thank something for Jeff. I'm Glad he is back.

  • COME BACK JEFF THIS WORLD MISSES YOU!

  • OMG a New Jeff Mangum song!!

  • Mangum is god.

  • cannot stop listening to this

  • you should clarify in info that this song is a cover.

  • amazing. made my day.

  • The more people say they'd love to hear new material from Mangum, and the more people urge him to record, the less likely it becomes that we'll ever hear from him again. I honestly believe that if no one wanted it, maybe if In the Aeroplane over the Sea was fondly recalled by indie fans, but not cherished and so highly extolled, he would get the itch to put something else out. I don't think he's ever been the sort to do what others would like him to do.

  • @crappybassist96 I like the fact that he stopped recording after Aeroplane actually. He made an album that's widely viewed as his masterwork, and following it would be nearly impossible unless it followed the exact same parameters as ITAOTS. It would be nice to hear a full album or random track from him, but you're right, since the publics holding what hes done already in so high regard, hes not putting out a work that would probably be inferior.

  • @bobbied3 Aeroplane was 1998, since then he's sung quite a few songs that he stated were new. They seem pretty awesome.

  • This is so great. I feel like I've been waiting for this for a long time. Whether it's him returning or not... its amazing to hear this.

  • Grande!!!!!

  • JEFF MANGUM COVERING THE TALL DWARFS!

  • WAIT THIS is NEW MANGUM!!!?

  • Ugh...pitchfork has announced that he is playing "a short acoustic set" on May 6, 2010 for a Chris Knox benefit show at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC - and said it is not a comeback, only a one time show for his friend....CURSE MY FINALS AND CURSE MY LACK OF CASH, i would chop off my left hand to see this show...

  • @Hubris73 Do it.

    It's worth it.

Mangum would not care if you showed up to his show with a bloody stump of an arm.

  • I would rather steal and not study for finals than chop off my left hand. . .

  • he did not write this song

  • i was anxious and worried when i saw he had a song, worried it wouldnt be good.

    first line, i teared up.

    brilliant would be an insult.

  • fuck hes so amazing.

  • This is the most epic 2 minutes of my life. I've missed this man.

  • Oh my God! It's so good to hear Jeff sing after all these years. His voice is the best it's ever been. I hope to hear more in the not too distant future.

  • This is like if JD Salinger published a new book. I'm glad Mangum isn't dead...

  • writing books and singing songs about the way it should have been

  • Comment removed

  • I'm happy, now.

  • His voice sounds soooooooooooo good.

  • god, Mangum is seriously this generation's John Lennon and all he does is guest star on other E6 records.

share your talents Jeff, it's been 12 years. Songs like this demonstrate you clearly still have it.

  • I could listen to him sing anything. He could sing assembly instructions for a cabinet and I would listen to it 1,000 times. Awesome!

  • @DrunkontheAmtrack

    DrunkontheAmtrack:

    Hmm...*grabs guitar*

  • even hardcore neutral milk hotel fans are unlikely to have heard of the cd without stumbling across this.

  • @xshootingdovesx

    xshootingdovesx:

This is a Chris Knox cover, from a modest little gift of a compilation album wishing him well after his stroke. Also, the song wasn't even available on the original release.

  • That's pretty cool. Though I'd like to see his 'comeback' not as a cover.

  • An older, more mature Jeff Mangum.

  • kick ass

  • wooooooow!!!

  • Can someone help me find this song or where I can download it? I've been waiting for so long for Jeff''s comeback. Anyone who can help will have me for a slave for a week. :D

  • @driftwoodxjudith merge records: stroke, songs for chris knox

  • Please Jeff ONE more NMH album before I diee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song was in the latest Rolling Stones issue.

    (3 and 1/2 stars.)

  • @ngrbeatr

Rolling Stone has been a joke for the 2 and a half decades I have been alive.

  • @ngrbeatr

Really i was thinking more like 5,000 STARS!!!!!!!!!

  • @ngrbeatr Sonichu references and Jeff Mangum in one video? I think I came my pants.

  • So good.

Goddamnit Jeff, just give us an album. You've waited long enough.

  • HELL YES! I just found our about this. So glad to hear you again Jeff! Now just ease your way into it, gently! So that we might hear what's in your head these days. Give me more songs to cover :) Seriously. Love ANY new Mangum and having been sooooooo long tis cover is such a gift!

  • this*

  • A cover of a cover of a cover?

  • @ngrbeatr No I was suggesting Jeff ease himself back into writing songs after releasing this cover so that I may pay further tribute to him. I have performed covers of covers though.

  • @ngrbeatr coverception

  • @baraka1408

Thank you baraka for this, now I know that Jeff is alive and still making music. I love you already! haha

  • @Havokz3

    die.

  • @Havokz3 By posting this online he made money for a stroke victim. I had no idea this existed until I saw it on youtube. One iTunes purchase later, Chris Knox has a little more money in his pocket.

  • i got choked up when he started singing...

  • goodness. its so nice to see something from him, its been so long. i remember being so optimistic about the future of that NMH when i bought Aeroplane eleven years ago. i suppose that may have been misguided optimism, but its nice to see that he hasnt lost a step in those eleven years.

  • 40 years old and still fucking awesome at making magical, mystical, and wonderful pop songs.

    God bless Jeff Mangum.

  • its a cover lol

  • It's a Tall Dwarf cover. But man it's way better than the original.

  • its everything I wanted it to be

  • 0:08

    I came

  • I know right?!?! God his voice is orgasm

  • Hopefully this means we will be hearing more from him

  • @WeEatBrainz Ah, dont we all wish, but unfortunately, the reality is that if he wanted to come back, he probably would have a long time ago.

  • i have nothing to say about this.

  • I have nothing to say about you. Hahaha, yeah, YOU.

  • He sounds much better than I expected! It's more than a decade since Aeroplane, he's almost 40, smoked who knows how many cigarettes, and he didn't even write this song.

One can only hope for more before he's gone.

  • He's still 40.. "before he's gone" is a little morbid aye?

  • "Before he's gone" was a comment regarding his meager output, as oppose to his impending death. At his current rate, we should expect 3 more covers and 3 more noise collages before he's 70 years old.

  • Then that's all we can pray for. =) I would really like him to come out and record something. But time will tell.

  • It's like.. listening to all his younger performances.. he has more of a passion in them, a more whiney, grainy sound that screams emotion.. And this new jeff, sounds tempered with age, the whine is subtler, yet the emotion is still there. I like the new jeff as much as the old. Two headed boy and candy coated dream remain my favorites =)

  • am i the only one who doesnt know where this came from??

  • Stroke: Songs for Chris Knox

  • Sign the Dotted Line is off the Album Weeville by the Tall Dwarfs...Chris Knox and Alec Bathgate make up Tall Dwarfs...they are awesome too...This is an awesome version...

Also see Elf Power's cover of Nothing's Going to Happen...Elf Power is another Athen's GA band and some of it's members are on the NMH albums...

  • @ngrbeatr hahaha, is your name "nigger beater"?

  • That made me unbelievably happy and everything but what's happened to the tags?

  • i just cried. im not even joking.

  • He sounds older! :o

  • i came

  • nice one : D

    I love him

  • holy crap thank you for posting this

  • my head fell off

  • wow great to hear jeff again!!!!
